UC Davis

my friend who is the president of SAE at UC Davis told me that Sigma Nu is trying to colonize at Davis again. Any info bros?

I know Chris Healy, Director of Expansion, has wanted this project for a few years now....

ZK761 05-16-2007 12:06 AM

I know that he is trying to get in contact with one of our brothers dad who was a past L.C at Davis to get alumni support to recharter it....I'd personally like to see the Davis chapter back.

agrphi 05-16-2007 02:37 AM

I haven't heard anything about UC Davis and my company is working with Ben Bruenig and some Expansion stuff.

Kevin 05-16-2007 02:08 PM

There's no official announcement on the website. I just Googled "Sigma Nu" & "UC Davis" and this thread is number three on that list. I have no doubt that what you're saying is true, Brother McGuire. Sigma Nu has really started to cast its net wide insofar as its expansion efforts are concerned.

As to how close Zeta Xi is to becoming active again, it's still anyone's guess. Great to see that it may be reopened.

Based on my experience, our west coast chapters are generally very successful. UC Davis would probably be a safe bet for expansion.

ZK761 05-19-2007 03:30 AM

I actually talked to Chris Healy today and he said they are going to try and get it started again Spring '08 if everything goes according to plan. They are working with alumni and trying to get a strong support to get it started again.

banditone 05-19-2007 01:33 PM

Is that campus anywhere near UCLA or Stanford? Just thinking if they can help when it gets colonized.

KyleMcGuire1983 05-21-2007 09:21 AM

Davis is about 8 hours north of LA :-P

It's near Sacramento.....Davis is like an hour and half from San Francisco.

Closest Sigma Nu chapters are: Chico State, San Jose State, UCBerkeley, and Stanford.

banditone 05-21-2007 12:19 PM

I don't know much about the others; but everything I've seen about Stanford lately looks like they have their stuff together.

I've never been to Chico State but I hear the guys there are pretty wild and keep a pretty Animal House style house.

I only went to Stanford once and they had a Parents' Day so they couldn't really entertain us....but we're going back for the SJSU vs. Stanford football game in the fall.

UCBerkeley guys are really nice and we're pretty close to that chapter (along with Fresno State) and visit each other frequently for parties and the such. They have about a 30 man chapter and a huge house.

From what I can tell none of the Bay Area chapters are extremely struggling, but we could always do better....hopefully Davis is able to flourish.

chicostateksig 02-18-2008 02:21 AM

Chico State Sigma Nu is helping out with Recolonizing the UC DAVIS chapter.

A couple of my pals are Sig Nu's at chico

Kevin 02-18-2008 10:19 AM

It's a colony.

Give it a few years.

chicostateksig 02-21-2008 04:47 AM

i was talking about the Iota Kappa Chapter in Chico, i think that Sigma Nu in Davis is going to be big! but on a real note i do hope your organization excels in davis. I have alot of respect for Sigma Nu and i am not lying, and i am very impressed with Iota Kappas rush this week they really did a good job and stepped their game up.

TechSigmaNu 02-21-2008 02:15 PM

On the post of chistateksig earlier, I think there are a couple odd people in each organization. The kind of people that just don't look or act the same as the organization as a whole. btw, I don't think this is bad in any way I am just saying. For instance, there are sororities that keep girls in the kitchen area or a room away from the groups during formal rush at my school because they are not the 'best girls' to present to the potentials. We call these the 'kitchen cases' of the sororities. But to conclude I think there are a couple 'misfits' in each organization and if they are contributing in other ways (ie scholastics, dues, etc....) then whats the problem?

chicostateksig 02-22-2008 03:28 AM

i do agree, i mean i dont mean to judge your brothers i know alot of them and like i said i respect Sigma Nu as a whole.

SNUIGC 02-22-2008 02:23 PM

Although I do agree with techsigmanu, there definitely are some people that you just don't want to put up front for all the potentials to meet... a colony definitely seems to get some more of them, I guess since we are new and people don't know exactly what to think about them yet. (experience from our colony on this one)

But, I'm glad to see that uc davis is getting some help from another chapter...that'd be nice. lol So, off subject, any plans for the Kappa Sigs to get back on the campus? Kappa Sigs have some pretty good guys down here at Miss. State.

chicostateksig 03-19-2008 12:44 PM

Well, by talking to my friend from Sigma Nu Iota Kappa Chapter i found out that the UC Davis Colony has around 22 members, they were pinned sometime last week.

As for Kappa Sigma's Beta Phi Chapter return i heard its not going to be for a long time due to the fact that several members were given a 2nd chance but messed things up again...

banditone 03-20-2008 08:52 AM

Awesome. Thanks for the update!

chicostateksig 03-21-2008 03:51 AM

yeah no prob. i come from a Colony myself and i wish that Sigma Nu at Davis is a success.

ZK761 03-25-2008 01:30 AM

I don't think they have been pinned yet, because I believe the Zeta Kappa chapter (Fresno St.) is going to be performing their pinning ceremony soon.

chicostateksig 03-25-2008 03:07 AM

hmm sorry for the misinformation. i thought they were pinned from what i was told the IK chapter went to DAvis but yeah you should know more if your a SigNu so yeah.

How many actives do you guys have in Fresno?

and is Kappa Sigma there strong or weak? idc if you dont like them i just want an honest answer.

ZK761 03-25-2008 12:22 PM

Hey no problem, Yeah here at Fresno we have about 54 actives. As for Kappa Sig, I believe they have around 35-40 actives if I'm not mistaken. I hardly talk to any of them, so I'm not certain on those numbers but I'm pretty sure I'm close. I have nothing against them, the guys I have met and talked to have all seemed chill and nice guys.

chicostateksig 03-27-2008 01:27 PM

Thanks for the information.

ZK761 04-03-2008 03:49 PM

Can't wait to do their pinning ceremony...come Saturday night Davis will officially have candidates

chicostateksig 06-06-2008 02:02 PM

how is colonization going?

ZK761 06-06-2008 03:05 PM

I believe it's going strong from what I hear. I talked to Healy yesterday and he said that the expansion team was packing their stuff and ready to move on and let the Davis chapter succeed on their own. I have complete faith that these guys will have their charter within a year or two. When we did their pinning ceremony they seemed really excited and ready to bring back Sigma Nu to Davis.

Kedzman 06-07-2008 02:46 PM

If Chris Healy got 22 candidates going at Davis - that's great. We got 18 at Theta Eta (Northern Illinois), two dropped, and we carried on with 16. Over the next 3 semesters, we recruited another 15, 9 and 11 for a total of 51 when we chartered.

If Davis is 50+ at their chartering - that strong!

By the time they plateau, they will hopefully be at 60+ each fall and taking 25-man pledge classes each fall and 10 in the spring. That is kind of the vision with our chapter at NIU.

banditone 06-07-2008 06:20 PM

25 fall + 10 spring = 35/year = 140 man chapter right before you graduate your seniors. That is great vision on what you guys should strive for.

That is not entirely realistic. Not all candidates will be freshmen - some will be older. Some transfer. Some must drop out for financial reasons. Thankfully, we don't lose any to academics because we carry about a 2.9 cummulative GPA.

Theta Eta will return with 47 this fall. 25 fall + 10 spring gets us up to 82 less those we graduate in the next year which will be perhaps a dozen. We'll return with 70 in the fall 2009. At that point I think we will be graduating as many as we are pledging. If we bounce around between 70 and 100 we will be a top 3 fraternity at NIU - Phi Sigma Kappa and Pike being the other two. We are going to leap-frog SAE and TKE this year.
