I am hearing that we have been invited to re-charter our chapter at University of Maryland. Also, we have been invited to re-charter our chapter at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. That will take place in Fall '08.

According to the latest Magazine of Sigma Chi, HQ is in talks with Texas State (former Southwest Texas State) to re-charter our chapter.

Xi Xi at Missouri was reinstalled during the Balfour Workshop. Somehow I missed this. It occured Aug. 2.

LaneSig 10-02-2007 09:59 AM

The Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi was rechartered at George Washington University on Sept. 16th. Congratulations.

I am a little confused. I remember when UT-Martin and University of Tampa were chartered, their petitions and the call for votes was on the HQ website. I do not remember seeing anything for either Mizzou or George Washington. Has something changed in the process of installing new chapters?

Maybe there isn't a vote because these are reactivations of the chapter and not a new charter.

Hello,

I believe that is something that they changed at Grand Chapter in June in San Jose. I believe it is now up to either the Executive Committee or the NCDC or both.

Regards,
Nick

Oh, by the way, I am trying to start a local group at Princeton and have 5 guys interested, if u know more people who go and meet Jordan Standard please email me Nick.Pino@gmail.com

University of Arizona Colony

Sigma Chi Returns to the University of Arizona
10/12/2007

The Sigma Chi Fraternity is rejoining the Greek system at the University of Arizona-Tucson. Eric Bolt, California-Irvine 2006, associate director of expansion, and Matt Micksin, Arizona State 2006, successfully implemented a new chapter initiative from Aug. 20 through Sept. 1, 2007. The program involved on site recruitment of more then 30 men who embody the Fraternity's standards.

Sigma Chi's vision is to be the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization at Arizona-Tucson, focused on developing values-based leaders who are committed to the betterment of character, campus and community. The Fraternity seeks men dedicated to establish their chapter with a strong foundation for the future. We are proud to report that the men who were recruited weeks ago are preparing for the colony petitioning process.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Eric Bolt, associate director of expansion, at (847) 869-3655 x223, or eric.bolt@sigmachi.org.

You might want to try some of the alumni chapters in the area or New Jersey undergraduate chapters. Unfortunately, it looks like the Rutgers University website is inactive. However, here are a few links that might help.

New York City Alumni Chapter

Fairleigh Dickinson University

According to the newsletter sent out by the Grand Consul, Bob Jones, HQ is looking into the following expansions:

Officially expanding at New Mexico State University, Syracuse, and West Florida. These groups would be new charters.

Plans to re-charter at Arizona (currently in works, see TSteven's post), Rhode Island, and Texas.

HQ is looking at/would like to re-charter Maryland, Gettysburg, Michigan, and Davidson.

Texas State University

At one time it was reported that Sigma Chi was talking to TX State about bringing back Theta Tau - any progress? (y'all have 12 years before my son the legacy will be there, so no hurry . . . )
Thanks

AlphaZetaXO 01-11-2008 03:03 PM

Yep, Sigma Chi got their charter back last semester at Texas State. :)

SWTXBelle 01-11-2008 03:30 PM

Thanks for the info, AlphaZetaXO! It's nice to have an inside scoop on Texas State!

JUSig229 02-11-2008 03:51 PM

just a little correction, Syracuse will be a recharter of the psi psi chapter that has been inactive since 1998, this will be the second time that the chapter has been rechartered

Texas State

Okay, now I am throughly confused.

When last I asked about Theta Tau, I was told TX State and Sigma Chi were in discussion about rechartering.

Then a TX State Chi O said they had received their charter again. But checking on the TX State site and then double checking here made it clear that they had not.

NOW - Sigma Chi is not listed on the IFC webpage at TX State BUT they are listed on the Student Org. page with a contact.

Does anyone know the scoop???

The last I heard was the talks, also. I saw a post that said they were chartering/recolonizing, but was waiting until I could get more info to verify. I have not heard, seen, or read of any Sigma Chi recolonizing activities at TSU (I know, you hate TSU, so SWT :). The only student org I could find was Sigma Chi Sigma, a pharmacy club.

ETA: I just read the original post. Sigma Chi has definately not re-chartered the TSU chapter last semester.

SWTXBelle 04-10-2008 10:07 PM

Yep - the link is gone. I'm still confused. And Yes it is TEXAS STATE!!!! (Not TSU - that is either Texas Southern U, or Tarleton State.) :)

eta - and Tarleton State has a Sigma Chi chapter already!

Sigma Chi Colony

Hello All,

Just wanted to let you know we now have a colony at Princeton University in New Jersey. This is a re-charter of the Sigma Chapter, which has not been in existence since 1882.

In Hoc,

Nick

LaneSig 07-14-2008 11:21 AM

Alright! New Sigma Chi colonies:

Gettysburg College - Sigma Chi Theta

Santa Clara University - Sigma Chi Upsilon

University of New Haven - Sigma Chi Lambda

Texas State University - Phi Sigma Chi (This will make SWTXBelle very happy!)

University of Texas - Tau Sigma Chi

University of Maryland - Sigma Chi Alpha

University of California/Merced - Alpha Sigma Chi Omega

Princeton University - Sigma Chi Sigma

We still have the 2 current colonies at the University of New Mexico and University of Arizona.

Very happy to see us returning to Gettysburg, Texas, Maryland, Texas State, and Princeton.

SWTXBelle 07-14-2008 01:02 PM

I'm VERY happy -about both TX State and UT! Here's hoping you get some great pledges for your colonies!:D

SWEET! Especially with the re-colorizations. And for what it is worth, UC Merced is the newest of the UC campuses and is building the Greek System from scratch.

Not all of 'em have one, but here are a few website links.

Gettysburg College - Sigma Chi Theta

Texas State University - Phi Sigma Chi

University of Maryland - Sigma Chi Alpha

SWTXBelle 08-24-2008 10:38 PM

So - any idea when Sigma Chi will begin the rechartering process at Texas State? My daughter is a freshman, and has several male friends who are interested in fraternity rush. I'd love to be able to let them know that there is a possible alternative should they not find what they are looking for this semester . . .

banditone 08-24-2008 11:16 PM

According to this link they are on and took 4 this past Spring.

SWTXBelle 08-25-2008 01:22 PM

4? Are they participating in recruitment? I'll tell my daughter, and I guess the guys can take it from there.

I don't know this for a fact: The chapter may have been very selective in its first pledge class and then are trying to get a bigger pledge class this fall. As you know, a colony is a lot of work. I know when I was part of our colony, we would get guys who wanted to be Sigma Chi's, but dropped out once they saw the work a colony entailed. They need 35 to charter (I believe that's still the magic number). So, hopefully, they can get a pledge class of 11+ who are quality and get it rolling.

LaneSig 10-15-2008 03:04 PM

HQ has announced that we will be expanding to the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Naples, FL. This campus will be colonized in the spring.

The IFC currently consists of Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

LaneSig 10-17-2008 02:46 PM

According to HQ's website, University of Michigan has pledged 38 men for our re-colonization. We left the Michigan campus in 2003.

LaneSig 12-12-2008 01:49 PM

Found a link for Tau Sigma Chi, the colony at Texas.

For whatever reason, it will not let me link the site. I will try later. Sorry.

The website is at texassigmachi.org

SWTXBelle 04-05-2009 05:59 PM

Glad to hear Theta Tau is back on track - will you be moving back into the house the chapter had at the time it was closed?

SigmaChiTxSt 05-06-2009 11:42 PM

Sigma Chi, Theta Tau (Texas State) is fully installed and initiated as of April 25th, 2009.
Yes, we will be moving back into the old house of Theta Tau with new renovations.
