ESPN Broadcasting this = This Week's Sign of the Apocolypse.

ladygreek 12-13-2006 12:56 AM

We read each other's boards so this is considered SPAM. Do not be offended when it is deleted.

jitterbug13 12-13-2006 12:58 AM

And according to ESPN.com, sumo wrestling will be on ESPN2 Saturday at 7. I don't think sumo wrestling and step shows are the same thing. :p

Step show on ESPN I can handle.

The National Spelling be on ESPN? Now that's a different story.

shinerbock 12-13-2006 01:32 AM

I hate ESPN.

JayJay1906 12-13-2006 04:06 AM

Steping on ESPN2, coollll (n my deep voice) Takes me back to being on the yard. I like to see a good stepshow, dang ESPN what took you so long!!! I also like the National Spelling Bee. Young Kids, do ya thang! Learn and grow!!! An Educated Man can appreciate athletics and academics.

CrimsonTide4 12-13-2006 07:43 AM

I told a Soror last night that by 2020 stepping may become an Olympic event. I almost posted this last night (and Soror noticed the Sumo event as well in her TV guide,) but I went to bed.

LOL!

jitterbug13 12-13-2006 10:09 AM

There is no step show airing Saturday on ESPN2. I looked on their website and they are airing sumo wrestling at that same time.

Drolefille 12-13-2006 10:24 AM

Is it on The Ocho?

ufdale 12-13-2006 10:34 AM

lol!!!

shinerbock 12-13-2006 10:42 AM

Right after the step show broadcast, perhaps they can switch to live coverage of me shopping for Christmas presents.

Kevin 12-13-2006 11:11 AM

Sounds like something ESPN should have put on "The Ocho."

PeppyGPhiB 12-13-2006 03:50 PM

Wow, ESPN2 has quite the sporting smorgasbord that day...

College basketball, followed by World Sumo Challenge, then college women's volleyball, Ultimate Arm Wrestling III, 2004 World's Stongest Man competition, and wrapping up the evening with the World Paintball Championships.

Greek events like Derby Days, Anchor Splash and various dance marathons might have a chance at getting broadcast time! ;)

AKA2D '91 12-13-2006 05:41 PM

I saw this advertised on another listserve a couple of weeks ago. However, when I went to ESPNs website, I did not see it listed on their schedule.

WenD08 12-14-2006 04:25 PM

the stepshow will air on ESPN2 this Saturday as posted. it was on the www.espn.com website. i wonder what teams will be there...

I'd watch other school's step shows, intramural dodgeball games, and a few parties if they were aired on ESPN U late at night. I'll be honest, greek life in the cities is fun, but I usually knew what to expect and recognized people at every single function. I'd love to have a spectator's view of a flag football game between two rival fraternities at a completely different school that I haven't traveled to yet. ESPN would do a better job than most channels(MTV specifically) at keeping the programming objective and inspiring.

shinerbock 12-14-2006 08:13 PM

ESPN isn't objective at all. Did anyone see the "best college football team ever" thing last night? The panel was composed of like 2 PAC 10 guys, 4 Big 10 guys and 2 Big East guys.

If MTV ever did a show about a traditional southern fraternity (wouldn't happen) it would probably make international news.

Maybe Santa will bring you the "Borat" DVD for Christmas. :)

Wouldn't surprise me if they still stated that last year's USC team was the greatest in the history of the planet.

jitterbug13 12-14-2006 10:46 PM

Well, the other day it wasn't on there. They had sumo wresling for that time slot. I wonder if it's going to be any good.

shinerbock 12-14-2006 11:23 PM

I love that onepeat thing, so true. Its amazing how few mentions LSU's BCS national championship gets on ESPN.

starang21 12-14-2006 11:35 PM

wacktacular

As long as you're typing "edumacation," you shouldn't be commenting on anyone's use of slang (yes, he was using slang and not struggling with grammar).

When those are considered interesting or remotely "skill based" as far as random people are concerned, you might see them. :)

Over the past years, stepping is less viewed by mainstream as a "Greek event" and more a form of entertainment that anyone can participate in (regardless if they can actually step or not).

I wouldn't watch a televised competition but I guess this isn't too crazy if those cheerleader competitions are aired. I love watching cheerleader competitions so maybe I can love watching these stepshows. I'll have to watch it from a noncritical and more mainstream POV, I guess.

DeltAlum 12-15-2006 01:02 AM

Remember that the real name of ESPN is the Entertainment, Sports Programming Network.

We can leave it at that.

However, I think it might be fun to watch a step show on TV.

When it comes to determining a national champion without a playoff system, of course objectivity will be compromised. I'm huge fan of Boise State myself. Just for the blue field and the kick-ass record.

If MTV did a show about any real national fraternity, it would make huge news. At first I thought it would be cool if MTV did a series about my chapter, but then I realized that they would try to make it look like something goes wrong every week. Like, if I'm arguing with my girlfriend over the phone, they will splice it with a phone conversation with another brother to make it look like a whole lot of drama is going down. Then they would film me about to take a nap while blasting REM's "Everybody Hurts". Or they would show someone tired, or frowning at step practice to make it look like there is major dissension amongst our ranks. MTV seems like they would intensify nonexistent problems just to boost ratings.
ESPN would, at the most, make some of the rivalries look like century old feuds about who could play kickball better. But they would probably highlight other aspects of the organizations as well as the schools. At least that's what I see when I watch college sports on there.

soulman88 12-15-2006 07:20 PM

ESPN2 stepshow

The show IS happening!
I stepped in it and it will air Sat. Dec. 16th at 7pm. It's two hours long.
We, the Phi Beta Sigma UnKNOWn Stepteam(Army Sponsored), stepped exhibition as the sponsored team. The Competion was won by Phi Beta Sigma from New Jersey, and Zeta Phi Beta from Philly.
Watch it... It was good!

Unregistered- 12-15-2006 07:35 PM

It's funny how these hit and run posters go through all the trouble of registration and validation and such just to tell everybody to watch.

I'm assuming most people will be out and about Saturday evening at 7pm.
