I need Assistence
I really need help deciding which auxiliary group to join... They all seem so appealing to me.
Ivy Pearls- People say that I'm Ivy Pearl Material... Cuz I'm cute and prim and proper. This was the second group I knew about.:D Zeta Archonettes- This group is known for their crazy (amount of) parties... And I love to dance and party. But of course I have my limits.;) Delteens- This was the first group I actually knew existed. This group is known for being laid back and cool. But there's one problem... Delteens are drawing in people that are completely different from myself. And I mean that several people that don't like me want to join.:) I'm living in Hattiesburg, MS and I realize that the overall personalities may vary from city to city. These are what i've heard about each one. but then again, I plan on moving this year, so I don't know... Also, who should I go to to get information on interest meetings and things like that? |
You're kidding right?
|
In before the lock! :D
|
I love how she mentions she lives in Hattiesburg, MS but her location reads "Now why would I tell you that?"
|
So these auxillary groups are high school versions of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta? How does this work? Does it make you a shoe-in to join the respective GLO in college, or is it actual membership in the group already or what? Is this the culture to join an auxillary group in high school in order to join a D9 GLO? I'm curious as to how this works. However, no one online will be able to give you serious advice on which one to join.

This makes me laugh :D
*In before the lock!* |
Hahahaha, "assistence."

We do have an application, but it is not meant to be anything more than to see who is interested in being a part of the program and to know more about the girls as well as their goals in life. |
For the NPHC members. While membership in an auxiliary does not gurantee membership do you feel it can give an advantage to the girl or the sorority? It seems to me that these programs will plant the seed of interest in the girls. Also, I would think that a girl would have "extra consideration" during the membership selction process if she does seek the same group in college.

I wouldn't say advantage, but I am sure it does plant a seed especially if their experience in the respective program was a valuable one and they gained a tangible positive impression about the sorority that sponsored the program. Extra consideration? Possibly, but it depends on how the young lady presents herself. If she shows up to a DST event and says, "I was a Delta GEM or in Delta Academy so you should pick me to be a member of the sorority." I wouldn't be as inclined to choose over the young lady who says, "I was able to be a part of Delta GEMS and/or Delta Academy in high school and from that I learned XYZ about Delta Sigma Theta and value the organization's contribution to Habitat for Humanity, preparing young ladies for careers in science and math, etc." |
I think the best part of this thread (besides CT4's limitless D9 knowledge, which she freely imparts on us NPCers :D ) is the fact that it's in the Sorority Recruitment forum.

What's an Ivy Pearl? Alpha Kappa Alpha does not have auxiliary groups. NOW, chapters do have various mentoring type programs for young ladies and/or men in elementary, junior and/or senior high schools. With each chapter, the program's name(s) vary (ies). Maybe you need to research a bit more. ETA: You might want to check with those giving you your information. Maybe they can assist you in getting more information concerning these various groups. They seem to have the most accurate information. |

I think the best part of this thread is that her username is just as presumptuous as her questions. |

This made me curious about something else - say a young lady joined an auxillary group of one of the NPHC sororities and ultimately decided to seek membership with one of the other NPHC groups once she reached college. Might it be held against her that she had a previous affiliation of some type with another NPHC group, or might it be looked upon positively that she had at least shown some interest in positive leadership activities as a teen (even if it happened to be through another group)? As a side note, I don't know if other NPC groups have mentoring/auxillary programs like this, but Alpha Gamma Delta has a relatively new program called Rosebuds. The program is for preschoolers through 18 year olds (with separate age appropriate activities planned, of course). |
I'm Sorry.
:( I'm not saying that I know I'm going to be in any auxiliary group and I know that I spelled assistance wrong... Excuse me. And as far as my screen name that isn't exactly an assumption. It's just something to look forward to. It would be so funny IF I actually ended up going to Duke University. I'll tell you IF I do. Also, I changed my mind about not telling and figured that no one would care enough to even CHECK my profile in the first place. I'm so sorry that I have so many problems.
Anyway, yes, they all are groups for girls from the middle and/or high school. They sometimes help the actual sororities do community service projects and they also throw some parties and things like that. Delteens are with Delta Sigma Theta, Ivy Pearls are with Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Zeta Archonettes are with Zeta Phi Beta.:( |

LET US TRY AGAIN...
:( OKAY I'LL TRY THIS AGAIN... THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE KNOWN FOR. NOT ALL THEY DO. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE KNOOOOOOWN FOOOOOR. I KNOW THEY ALL HAVE VALUES AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE. LOOK STOP LOOKING FOR THINGS TO PICK AT ME ABOUT AND LOOK AT THE WHOLE THING. I'M MORE THAN WILLING TO DO HELP OUT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY. ACTUALLY THAT'S WHY I ACTUALLY CONSIDERED JOINING A TEEN GROUP. AND I'M MUCH MORE THAN WILLING TO MAKE THIS A COMMITMENT BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR ME TO DECIDE IF I GOT SOME HELP FROM SOME PEOPLE THAT I THOUGHT KNEW HOW TO MAKE A DECISION LIKE THIS. AGAIN THESE GROUPS ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL! :(

Using CAPS LOCK is a definite guarantee you'll get in!!! :D |
Come on you all, there is no reason to go after the girl in this manner. She wanted to get some information--she may have been misinformed about these organizations (or even their existence), but that doesn't mean you should talk down to her, particularly by equating the fact that she didn't spell check, or that she  used caps lock, to her intelligence level, or ability to get into Duke. There are many very intelligent people in the world who cannot spell. If you don't like what she's saying, simply don't comment. The thread will die, and you will be happy. Conflict solved!

we all have them. I just didn't bother to use spell check. Thank you so much for your help. I think I was about to cry. I'm not trying to be a victim or anything but I get looked down on every day of the week and It doesn't help being looked down on by people I don't even know. I was hoping that I could go somewhere where I could be accepted. And Again, the things I said about the groups (particularly Zeta Archonettes) are what they are known for by people at my school, some people who aren't in any of the groups, and some parents of students of Hattiesburg High. |
also some of the people from some of the groups.

Hey
Can't I be free to spell how I want to online? I mean goodness I speak proper english all day every day. 24/7/365. I mean people give me crap about my speaking proper english all the time, and now people are giving me crap about the way i spell a couple of words online. What should I do? I can't help it if I speak proper english where I need to and type things a little incorrectly where I don't have to speak proper english. And as far as my Screen Name goes, I'm not ghetto; that's my nickname. My real name is Veronica. Do you see where the Nica comes in? Some people call me Nica and some call me Nica Boo. It depends on who they are. That's where NicaBoo comes from. 601, of course, comes from Hattiesburg's area code.

To Pinkies Up:
Well I have no choice but to believe you since you are living in Hattiesburg and you are a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. So I will leave it at that. I honestly did not mean to cause problems with the screenname and the question. I just wanted to know. I'm so sorry. If i offended you in any way I am so sorry. If you want to, you can give me the information. Oh, If I meet you in the future, hopefully you will not hold any of this against me.
|
I'm still curious how she's going to join chapters of an organization that apparently don't exist...
