Drives you crazy.

Hey, I'm not sure if I'm on the right thread for this or not, but when you're driving what do other drivers do that make you mad, or make you blow your horn in anger, or what is just really annoying to you?

o.k. There's quite a few traffic things that get me mad, but the one that stands out the most is when I'm looking for a parking spot and the lot is full, but then I see a spot that's close to the door that seems empty. Well, come to find out there's a motorcycle parked there. Oh, that gets me steaming. One little bike using all that space instead of a car. There should be motorcycle parking only. I hate donercycles.

AlethiaSi 04-18-2007 09:31 AM

Um, well since moving to this area (outside NYC) i think i've come to the conclusion that people no longer know how to use turn signals. They just float from lane to lane with not a care in the world....

i hate that too, or when i'm waiting to turn and some one is coming to turn on the street that i'm on and don't use the signal and so i just wait there until they decide at the last minute to even slow down:mad:

I hate it when people do DEAD STOPs on a 45 mph street because they are turning right into a parking lot.

ZTAngel 04-18-2007 12:47 PM

Atlanta drivers are infamous for this one. I hate, hate, hate, hate when people know that their lane is ending or know that their lane is the exit ramp but will ride in it for as long as possible before cutting over. Traffic here tends to really back up so people will ride in the exit ramp lane (or even on the shoulder) and then cut over at last minute. Usually, they will come to a dead stop and put their signal on and wait until someone lets them over. Those of us who are in the off-ramp lane because we really do need to exit the highway have to wait until the selfish POS finally finds someone nice enough to let them over before we can keep moving. Exit lanes here get very backed up because of people doing this. The people figure that being able to get ahead of 9 to 10 cars will save them precious time. Right. It's Atlanta traffic - you're SOL no matter what lane you're in. Argh.

I like to blast my horn at these people until they finally get over. mwhahaha.

california driving..............

What doesn't bother me anymore when i drive

The floating lane changer ticks me off
dead stops
merge lane and they go til they have to /or can cut in
ppl who don't extend the courtesy to say thank you
CAL TRANS ( if you live in calif you know exactly what i am saying...for others who don't know road construction when there is no need for it)
agressive drivers who even if they signal cut you off within inches of your own vehicle
Cell phone Driving, make up doing, hand gesturing conversationalist driving drivers!

driving in california....priceless!

AlexMack 04-18-2007 02:26 PM

Anyone who sees an ambulance and freaks out, which is 75% of the time. Its not hard, pull over and let us pass. Do not attempt to race ahead of us, do not follow us thinking you can drive fast too and not get into trouble. If our lights aren't flashing, there's no need to pull over.

Let me break it down:
If the lights are flashing and the siren is going (sometimes, the siren annoys us too so we do shut it off when it's not necessary), pull over to the right, let us pass.
If the lights and sirens are off, drive normally.

Also, just because we're bigger than you there is no reason to act like a douche and refuse to let us out into traffic.

Jimmy Choo 04-18-2007 02:34 PM

Things that make me crazy:

*people who drive slow in the fast lane
*people who drive barely at or under the speed limit on the interstate

It's things like those 2 examples that make me understand why there is road rage.......

aephi alum 04-18-2007 08:12 PM

Funny you should post this today.... I am a bad-driver magnet. This evening I had a road rager follow me. It was 110% obvious that he was following me (I made some weird turns) so I called the cops.

My #1 annoyance is tailgaters. #2 is people who blow through red lights - usually they just get caught at the next red light. And then there are the people who road-rage for no reason... don't make your bad temper my problem.

lilbay77 04-18-2007 09:02 PM

1. People in front of me that count to 10 when making a right turn.

2. People who dart out in front of me and drive slow.

3. People who wait until the light turns green to put on their left turn signal.

4. People who dont do the thank you nod or wave, when they should.

5. People who double park on purpose so nobody dents their shiny sports car.

6. I hate driving behind people who do not know how to merge onto the freeway.

How does double parking prevent people from denting your car? You know some idiot is going to be speeding down the right lane, and *crunch*. Or they're going to be speeding down the right lane, suddenly realize they need to cut left, and nonetheless *crunch*.

Maybe I have the lingo wrong, but I'm talking about folks who park really crazy and take up two parking spaces, so there clearly is no room for another car in either space. Perhaps the idiots just can't park properly. Either way its annoying.

ΑΓΔSquirrel10 04-18-2007 09:56 PM

1. Old people who drive at 30mph in a 45mph zone in their enormous Buicks

2. People who speed up to get around me (even though I'm going 10 miles over the limit), then proceed to slow down to the speed of snail.

3. Soccer moms who have their huge SUVs, trying to switch lanes, turn corners, etc. while talking on the phone and giving food to their kids.

4. Gangstas who have their rap music turned up to 2185397213598 decibels

5. Sketchy guys who stare me down at red lights.

6. Old redneck men who pick their noses at traffic lights

7. Preppy 16-year-old girls who are too obsessed with the way they look (for example, putting on A TON of makeup while driving)

Yeah, I don't think that's double parking, that's just straddling the line.

I hate it when people cut me off, almost running me off the road, then when I honk to let them know I'm there (on the off chance they just didn't see me) they flip me off like I did something wrong. Honda's have such friendly sounding horns....I wish my horn wasn't so cheery. I want a mean horn!

That's not double parking. Double parking is when there are no parking spots available on the street, so you just stop your car in the right lane (so your car blocks the right lane, and whoever is legally parked to your right cannot get out), put it in park, get out, lock it up, and go about your business.

The folks who take up two parking spots annoy me as well. Also, the people who invent parking spots that block other drivers... Until a few months ago, I was in daily-parking hell at the commuter-rail station. People often invented parking spots that blocked the exit. Were they ticketed or towed? Nope. I had to play bumper cars on more than one occasion to get out.

GeekyPenguin 04-22-2007 12:34 PM

1) People who make rights on red and almost hit the pedestrians who have a walk signal
2) People who don't let my bus move over to the HOV lane - hello, the driver is trying to get OUT of your way
3) People.who.stop.look.listen. and then slooooowly make a right turn with no signal
4) People who tailgate me when I go 75 in a 55 because that is not fast enough for them

This city is notorious for the exit ramp situation ZTAngel described - luckily my car is tiny so I can go around them on the shoulder! :) We also have awful awful tailgaters during rush hour - the other day I had to drive downtown instead of taking the bus and I was about to post a missed connection for the nice guy in the Lexus who didn't ride my ass the whole trip downtown!

AlphaFrog 04-22-2007 01:21 PM

My biggest one is people in the right lane during rush hour who put on their turn signal and EXPECT you to let them in. If I have to slow down to let you over, and there's only a half car lenght between me and the car in front of me (in stop & go) I'm not letting you in. There's absolutely no reason why you can't wait for a break to get into the left lane (and there will be one, because someone feels like it's ok to go 25 in a 65 zone during rushhour), it's not like there's an exit over there that you have to get to.

christiangirl 04-22-2007 03:22 PM

I also have a pet peeve that sort of works to my advantage. I hate it when the left lane is going slow and the right lane is not. Left=fast; right=slow. Not the other way around. If you're only going 57mph, don't be in the left lane. Or the left lane gets so clogged up that everyone's going slow.

But I can work with that. I just get in the right lane and crank it up to 80.

MSKKG 04-22-2007 03:24 PM

Oh, those are all good--I agree with all of you that those are infuriating. Here's one to add to the list: You are supposed to leave a car length for every ten mph, but NOT WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED!!! Pull up a little closer to the car in front of you so maybe traffic jams and road rage won't happen! I've missed making lights and exiting or turning because of these jerks! Rationally, I know their selfishness hasn't taken up too much time, but it's still an aggravation. (I'm not talking about pulling up so close that you are in the backseat of the car in front of you, but you shouldn't be able to see a runway between you and the car in front!)

What's more baffling is the people who don't pull up to the line when they are the 1st car!!! What's that all about?!? (It's not always elderly drivers either.)

SoCalGirl 04-22-2007 04:52 PM

People who insist on making their right turn on red into my lane as I'm barrelling down the road and have to slam on the brakes and swerve around their dumb ass. I then proceed to cut them off. :D

jadis96 04-23-2007 12:41 AM

People in SUV's and Trucks that sit higher then most cars and then they drive right behind cars with their brights on. No matter how fast I go they stay on my bumper blinding me in my little car!

xoheatherxo 04-23-2007 02:11 AM

i hate when motorcycles weave in and out of lanes or ride between lanes. i live near a bunch of colleges and hate when the college kids dont wait for the crosswalk to change and try to run across a 6 lane highway...thats why they invented crosswalks!!! my biggest driving complaint is to see the same cop on their cell phone while driving (since its illegal in ny to do that!) that pulled me over for it once!!!!

cheerfulgreek 04-23-2007 03:26 AM

I did a bad, bad thing yesterday.:o :o :o I went to Bakers Square yesterday, and in the parking lot were a group of Harley bikes. I only went in for a carry out. I was with one of my sisters and when we came out and got back into my car, I backed up, and lightly tapped one of the bikes. It was enough to knock 3 of them down and the 4th one looked like it was on it's way too. My sister screamed "OMG you just knocked over someones bike go, go, go, go!" I was getting ready to go back into Bakers Square to find the bikers but she freaked out so bad. She reach her foot over and tried to hit the gas. So I just drove off. They didn't see us, but I know they were pissed when they came out. We were so scared, and I felt kind of bad, but when we got on the freeway home, we laughed so hard. I thought I was going to miss it but that light tap did the trick.:( How embarrassing.:o

I guess bikes and I just can't live in the same world together.:p

Sister Havana 04-23-2007 03:00 PM

-People who don't use turn signals
-Gapers delays! (ugh. HATE HATE HATE!)
-People who take up two parking spots, especially when the lot is extremely crowded as is
-People who tailgate me when I'm already going well over the speed limit and when there's no way I can move over, especially tailgaters who use their brights

lol. This sounds like a scene from a movie or sitcom.

greeneyedDPhiE 04-24-2007 08:32 AM

While I hate people who don't use their turn signals, what I hate more is when someone uses it and then forgets to turn it off (especially on the interstate). Not only does the constant flashing irritate me, but it's a guessing game as to if they really mean to get over at any point. It seriously drives me up the wall.

Other pet peeves include tailgaters, runners of red lights, and obnoxious cell phone users. All three of these type of drivers have caused me to have wrecks.

The best one was the woman who ran a red light because she was on her cell phone and ended up hitting me and my friends causing us to spin 180 degrees, almost hitting a light pole in the process. The unbelievable part though was that after the accident she didn't even bother to end her conversation to make sure we were alright. My friend ran to her car, which was sitting in the middle of the intersection, because she hadn't gotten out, and found her just sitting in the driver seat, still on her cell phone.

haha...if you tried to leave that much space in between cars in DC, you'd have five or six cars trying to get in between you and the driver in front of you.

Today I saw the 1st person in line in the lane next to me stop an 18-wheeler length from the intersection line--NO LIE!!! This is the what I was talking about earlier. There is just no reason for leaving all this space between cars when everyone is STOPPED!!!

I've learned that on the turnpikes (at least from Detroit to NY), that when lanes are closed due to construction, the semis that are in line actually block the other lanes so that people can't cheat their way into the open lane. I love it! You know they're all on their radios laughing about the suckers who want to do it but can't.

I HATE when people wait til the last minute to get over. The exit off the expressway I took to school (Southfield, Michigan Ave. exit), the far right lane turns into an exit only lane. Even though the sign is blatantly clear and you can actually see the lane ending, people ALWAYS get over at the last minute. WTF?

A FEW BIKES? SO WHAT? Those bikes are worth THOUSANDS of dollars each. And then you go and laugh about it? WTF is wrong with you? And we're getting on your case because you act like you're so much holier than thou but then you post about the stupidest shit you do... which isn't even stupid. I don't know what word I could use for your actions besides selfish and self-absorbed.

I wish I lived in your city and knew where this had happened and knew who you were because I would definitely report you to the cops. Your life isn't a television show. Hitting a car and then being reckless again and almost causing another accident is NOT funny. Knocking down motorcycles and causing thousands of dollars in damage is NOT funny. I just can't understand why you would think it is.

smiley21 05-12-2007 01:02 PM

What if someone hit your car causing thousands of dollars in damage? Then they just leave because they did not mean to do it. I think you need to learn how to stand up to your friends. What if you did get tracked down by the cops and they asked why did you leave the scene? Are you going to say that your friend told you not to find the owners and to just leave and forget about it?? Yeah okay. I dont unerstand why you keep posting stuff like this and get mad when we dont like the stuff that you do. Do you really think that we are going to laugh with you?

haha. Darn those other drivers that keep getting in our way. I wish they would all just disappear so I can have the road to myself. After all, I am the only one who matters.

xoheatherxo 05-12-2007 03:40 PM

cheerfulgreek--ive been hit and run before in a parking lot and its really not funny. to come back out to your car (or bike in this case) and realize that youve been hit and that theres no info to give to insurance sucks. it raises the insurance of the driver of the car or bike that you hit because you have to report it to get it fixed. it also costs the owner money to fix it. so maybe you should pay more attention to what youre doing and next time leave a note on the bike or wait for the owners to get there. it cost me over 700 to fix my car that was parked minding its own business while i was inside shopping because of irresponsible people like you. either grow up and take responsibility for your actions or dont drive anymore. and get used to people posting responses to posts like yours. obviously people are gonna get mad. and if it happened to you youd be mad too. end of story.
