How long do you hold on to your sorority/fraternity magazine?
I'm debating getting rid of my magazines because their starting to add up. But, I don't want to regret trashing them. How long do you hold on to yours?
|
While I'm not going to give an exact amount of years, I do have every Adelphean I've received since I was initiated. Of course, they're in a) Storage B) My mother's house or C) My house - so if I were to have to get X edition, I'd have to think real hard where it is!
I think I keep them because it was by seeing the various GLO magazines at neighbors' houses as a child and the parents talking about them that helped sell me on rushing. Greek life just looked so fascinating, and hearing about serenades, Homecomings, etc only made it sound better! |
I wouldn't know, but I am ready to get my first Ivy Leaf!!!!:D :D
|
I've only received like 9 issues so far (I joined in spring of 2004), so I haven't gotten rid of one yet. I always leave the most recent one out on my desk, and I put the older ones in my magazine rack. Once they start to pile up, I will probably just box them up and put them in my closet. I wouldn't throw them out.
|
I keep them until the next one comes - or if it is a particularly good issue (like the last one, 'cause I wrote a piece for it! ) I'll keep it for use in our Alumnae Panhellenic Informational Tea. We try to have a variety of magazines out for the PNMs to leaf through and get an idea of what membership is like.
|
I've only started saving them for the past 4 years or so. I haven't really had a reason to go back to them except to look up our Educational Leadership Consultants (good to put a face with a name before they come). But I want to keep them for all of time because I love them, and I like to see my name in them now and then!

I read it (sometimes) and throw it away.
I guess that makes me a baaaaad sister;) |
I have kept all of mine since I started getting heavily invovled (so since 1999). In addition, I've bought older ones off ebay. When I was packing stuff up, I didn't even consider throwing them away.

I think I've kept most of mine since being initiated, though I couldn't tell you exactly where they all are. |
I'm pretty sure I have all of mine since I was initiated, it's just (as others have said) WHERE they are. :)
Currently, I have them on my bookshelf in my room, but maybe i'll pick up some type of 'magazine box" to keep them together in :o |
I was holding on to them for many years but then I found them archived online as pdf's. Since then if there is something important I want to keep I'll hold on to them, other than that they get tossed in with my recycling.
|
Unfortunitly I too threw away old magazines and now wish I had not ever done it as many of My Brothers keep them and can go back to check History.
Because of finances, LXA has gone to an electronic magazine while it is saviing money that needs to go back to run a Greek Organization, it comes out once a month, gives the same information and can be down loaded to be saved. Many of us were not happy, but, it has proven so succesful that I cannot wait for the monthly report instead of the quarterly magazine. :D |
Unless I'm on the cover, I throw it away.
|
I never throw the Oracle away. They will be of historical and sentimental value to me. Now, we will be given the choice of receiving the hardcopy or the electronic version. It will be interesting to see what percentage of brothers take each option, esp. since the Fraternity is going to publish two magazines, one for Fraternity and chapter news, etc. and the other for more academic and op ed type materials.
|
I have 9 years of journals either in my book collection or packed away in a box.
|
I toss mine pretty regularly. I think I'd only keep it if I was in the issue.

I keep them all. I also buy old issues on ebay. Wound up with Vol. 1 Issue 1 as a result. :)
Where to store them will prove to be a problem... |
I had held on to most of them, particularly the ones where I was in them, but I've lost some and just ended up throwing away the rest my last move. I just had too much stuff, something had to go.
|
I've kept them off and on. They are scattered about my house, lol. Maybe with the move, I can concentrate on 1 place.
It's cool now because I actually know some of the people in the pictures and/or articles. As I mentioned before, my chapter has 4 very old bounded copies of the Quarterly that are soo neat to look at and see what is relevant now. |
I normally don't keep mine.
I usually read The Adelphean or Deltasig (Delta Sigma Pi) and toss them after a month or so. I do have one copy of The Deltasig that I have kept for several years - but only because I came out on the cover  |

I have held on to all of mine :) don't plan on ever tossing them
|
I only kept the ones that I was in, and have tossed the other ones after a month or two. Ours are available online if I ever wanted to read them again.
|
I wish we could get them all on a disc - like National Geographic did a few years back. Hey, I smell a project for someone . . .
|
I used to keep all of them, but recently I decided to clean house and get rid of anything that I will not look at again. So 12 years of ToDragma's went to the recycling bin. I did keep one from my senior year in college where I am in a group picture, but other than that.
As for the one I just recieved, I will probably keep it until the next one arrives. |
