Pledged: The Movie
So I was searching for "Close to Home" (the comic strip) and to see if there was any cute sorority ones since I have been poking around here tonight. Then up pops Pledged so I stop to see what its about and if they are just talking about the book, not NO (gasp) supposedly they are going to make a movie out of it!! I could not believe what I just read and here's the link so you can see for yourself. It's still in development, but oh can you imagine!!

Okay I really want to see who signs on to act in this. This will be the most accurate portrayal of greek life in a movie ever! Excluding the Initiation of Sarah which was the ultimate in reality.
|
Seriously, can I protest the making of this movie?

I'm signing up to try out for this movie. I'll be the chick who yells out "I'm sooooo drunk! Who wants to date rape me?" in the middle of the greek week scene.
Who's with me? |

I totally don't remember the book, but I'd like to play some sort of desperate teenager who really just wants to fit in and be loved while getting trashed and having sex with fraternity guys. Is that an option?
|
Can I be the klepto who stole all her sister's stuff?
|
Where was the trailer for it? I couldn't find it.
|
Can I be the one who gives the reason that ASA uses the Pearl? I mean, nevermind it's not the REAL reason...but when it appeared in Pledged, we've since changed 105 years of our tradition so we could be accurate.

According to IMDB, the genre is Comedy.

ive never read this. is this the book that reveals secrets? or just the one that makes us look like drug addicts?
|

Totally realistic. [/sarcasm] |
wow- I wonder if they are going to reveal some of the ritual secrets in the book- even though most of them were humorously incorrect!

I want to be the girl in charge of the drug room at the sorority house! :D
|
I want to be one of Caitlen's boytoys.
|
Since guys are involved, there will HAVE to be a topless pillow fight scene.
|
It is sad to me that people are mislead by such false stories about greeklife-- they are missing out on something truly wonderful! I can't imagine where I would be without my Alpha Phis.
|
we had iniation last weekend, and my boyfriend is a TKE. We were at their house, and I mentioned I was tired from iniation. One of their new pledges got all wide eyed, and in all seriousness asks "is that when you have the naked pillow fights?! I read about that somewhere!" My response "yup, we do that right after the pudding wrestling" in my most sarcastic tone.
his brothers definetely had a talking to with him after that, lol. |
um. hardly

hey, as long as i get to be the token NPHCer, its allllllllll gudt. :D
i'll be no more happier to round out all of Robbins' stereotypes in the name of horribly skewed journalism. |
She isn't a journalist. She's an opportunist. The book was not intellectual...it was a money maker. She knew that. That's why I wasn't impressed. I would LOVE to see a real, true account of sororities at large schools...they're a whole different world to me. I'm actually writing a paper on the crap...
She consistently uses blanket statements like "all sororities do this", when that's never going to be true, and especially not of all chapters. She also offers "solutions" to our heinous crimes in the end of the book, but if she had done her research she would know how impractical they are. They are instantly obviously the solutions of a non-Greek...and not one who has done actual research. It just sucks that so many people now believe that's all that sororities are. What she did not make ANY effort to do was talk to women who love their sororities and the sisterhood...because of course those women are way to wary to talk. Those that are unhappy or aren't so gungho will share. I've had girls go through rush and ask questions based on reading that book...it is very irritating. Honestly, I don't know how realistic the portrayal is in regards to large sororities because I've only seen them from the outside. But I know that it's just not the same with a smaller group of women, and I hate to constantly have to defend our system to PNMs. I think it says a lot that I can easily argue the veractiy of much in the book and I've done no research at all. The movie will be just another money making opportunity as well. Sabrina will be portrayed as nothing but the token, even though not everyone viewed her that way. Amy will be a dumb, desperate, depressed girl. Vicki will be a drugged up slut and so will Caitlin. And all they'll focus on is constant drinking and constant sex. Hey, it sells. It's much more interesting than the truth. |
i've just started reading the book, and i've gotten to October so far. the thing that bothers me most about everything in the book is the fact that they way she writes it, it seems like the things that happen (like pre-gaming) only happen with Greeks. What? Non-Greeks don't pregame? Non-Greeks don't strive to be thin and perfect and have the perfect girlfriends? Non-Greeks don't sneak boys/girls into their dorms/apartments, etc.? It really makes me angry. And the fact that parents think these are accurate descriptions is even worse.

I predict a very special Lifetime, Television for Women, event:
"Pledged: Can You Keep a Secret" -- the true story based on the bestseller by Alexandra Robbins. |

Even better than "Pledged: Can You Keep a Secret" -- "Pledged: Dying to Tell." Then it really could work as a double feature. |

Learning from MysticCat Jr, are we? How's he doing, haven't had any good stories about him lately. Mariana walked into her brother's room yesterday morning, looked over the side of the bassinet and said "Hey, lil buddy!". Good stuff. |
Don't forget that they need a group of girls willing to get their fat circled and girls who are going to have the purging contests in the bathrooms. Plus they need an older man to play the plumber who comes in & unclogs the pipes since they are clogged up with vomit.

Oh and the circling the fat thing... that girl did have a big booty. I wonder if oscar winner Hillary Swank puts the movie on her resume. If I remember correctly, didn't she also do a movie where she was anorexic and she wore overalls all the time? |
you think it'll be better then Going Greek?

Ooooooo, I love that movie. IS that the one where they had to stand on the table and actives drew on them with magic markers to point out their physical flaws??? I am a cheesy "lifetime" movie addict. :D |
