EMERGENCIES
THIS IS ADDRESSED TO ALL GREEK SISTERS AND BROTHERS REGARDLESS OF THEIR AFFILIATIONS...
MEET AS AN ENTIRE CHAPTER AND THOROUGHLY GO OVER YOUR CHAPTER, COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY PLAN FOR EMERGENCIES. HAVE PLANS AND RESOURCES IN PLACE FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY HAPPEN - WHETHER IT BE SOMETHING AS TRAGIC AS THIS OR SIMPLE EMERGENCIES LOCATED AT YOUR COLLEGES... CREATE PHONE TREES, E-MAIL/TEXT MESSAGING LISTS ETC. KNOW WHO YOUR CONTACT PEOPLE ARE FOR YOUR FAMILIES AT HOME OR AWAY. DISCUSS FULLY WHAT EVERYONE CAN DO TO STAY IN TOUCH AND PLAN FOR SUCH AND EVENT. HAVE A LIST OF RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO ALL WITHIN YOUR CHAPTER AND CAMPUS SO THAT ALL KNOW WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO TURN. NOTIFY YOUR FAMILIES OF THESE CONTACTS AS WELL. AND ABOVE ALL, PRAY OR SEND HEARTFELT THOUGHTS TO THOSE PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD TONIGHT... |
I got an e-mail from IHQ saying that all Alpha Gams were accounted for, except one sister might be helping with recovery efforts or something like that. I'm grateful that I didn't lose a sister today, but my heart goes out to everyone who has lost someone in this tragedy:(

We too got an email from Alpha Phi headquarters that all the sisters at Virginia Tech were accounted for. Thank goodness...
And my thoughts and prayers go out to those families that lost loved ones today. This really hit home for me since so many of my friends from high school went to Virginia Tech (I went to school just outside of DC)...and many of my sister's friends are current student there. |
This is the first I've heard that an ADPi was shot. May she, the Pi Phi sisters, & all of the other wounded fully recover from their injuries. May the families of all involved be comforted, and somehow, find peace through this horrible day.
|
This is a repost. But all the brothers of our chapter there are accounted for and safe.
|
I am a Pi Phi at VA Tech and both of my sisters are doing well. One was grazed by a bullet in the head while helping our other sister after she was shot twice in the back. The one that was shot twice is out of surgery and in stable condition. VA Zeta appreciates all of your concern and prayers

Very happy that your sisters are ok. Where can we donate money and what else can we do to help? |
Wonderful idea! Is there some way we can help? We're writing notes, but I was wondering if maybe a Pizza Hut card or something similar - but there could be something much better to send.

I know that when I tragically lost a Gamma Phi Beta sister to colon cancer (at age 28!!) it really helped to channel our grief through donating to a scholarship in her name. It is wonderful to think that she is remembered every year at the school she so loved (she worked in admissions). Perhaps VT Kappas might consider this as a way for all Caitlin's Kappa sisters and NPC cousins to remember her, and to continue her legacy . . .

Its so difficult when the names/photos/profiles of the victims start to be released in tragedies such as this. When you read about their hopes and dreams, the good things they did during their lives. Sometimes I get so broken up reading that information that I think perhaps I shouldn't...but I feel compelled to in some strange way, almost as if learning about that person's life will somehow show some sort of respect to their memory. I did see where one of the young women who was fatally wounded was "looking into joining a sorority" - not sure if she had taken steps to join a particular chapter (attending COR type events, etc.), or was just contemplating going through recruitment in the fall. |

A Phi Sigma Pi initiate of the Alpha Rho chapter was also among those fatally shot - may she rest in peace. :(

The Deltas and Omegas at Tech are all accounted for, thank God.
My prayers are with the injured and deceased. |
All Zeta Tau Alpha members are accounted for. My prayers and thoughts are with VT students and their families.
|
Per our national website, "National Headquarters has confirmed that all Sigma Kappa Sorority collegiate members of Epsilon Chi chapter at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University are accounted for and safe."
I cannot imagine what those who lost sisters/brothers/friends feel like right now, but my thoughts and prayers are with them. I am in Richmond, VA and it is all anyone can talk about. |
So the fatality count for GLOs still stand at one Kappa? And then 2 Pi Phis, and 1 ADPi injured?
Do we have any more GLO news? How are the Kappas doing? And how are the Pi Phis and ADPis? |
All Beta's are accounted for per our HQ website. Sad day for all of us. May they all rest in peace.
|
May God bless and keep all the GLO chapters that were affected by this and the entire Virginia Tech family....
|
All the Kappa Theta DZs are accounted for and safe.
Prayers with VT always.. |

Per SAE National:
EVANSTON, IL – Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been in touch with its members of the Virginia Zeta chapter at Virginia Tech University following the campus shootings. Eminent Archon Taylor Williams reports his members are safe and have been in communication with each other. None of them appears to be involved with the shootings. “All brothers of the Virginia Zeta chapter are accounted for and unharmed,” said Williams. “We do not know who the victims are or the gunman. And we appreciate all of the support we have received from the brothers around the nation who have called or e-mailed us.” The Fraternity Service Center has fielded several calls from concerned persons. |

I just got this through a listserve and wanted to share with everyone. Please support us all in wearing maroon and orange on friday as well as wearing an orange ribbon to remember those who were lost on monday.
----------------------------------------------- Hokie Hope / Hokie Nation Hello all: The Virginia Tech alumni are holding a Maroon and Orange Effect Day this Friday, April 20. We are asking everyone to wear our school colors in honor of the victims of Monday's shootings, and to show that hope can prevail after this tragedy. We hope that on Friday, the United States truly will become Hokie Nation. In addition, the students have also started an Orange Ribbon campaign to honor those who have fallen. To join this campaign, all you have to do is make and wear an orange ribbon. Facebook groups have been started for both of these events. Lastly, Virginia Tech has started the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund in support of those affected by this tragedy. Donations are accepted online or via mail. http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php Please join us. - VT architecture alum, 2006 ----------------------------------------------- |
My deepest sympathies go out to all Va. Tech, staff, students, and alumni. Please be strong like I know you can be.

"April 18, 2007
On Monday, April 16, 2007, a terrible tragedy struck the Virginia Tech campus. We were saddened to learn that one of the confirmed deceased victims, Caitlin Hammaren, was an active member of the Zeta Mu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Caitlin was a sophomore from Westtown, New York, majoring in International Studies and French. Our thoughts and prayers are with Caitlin's family and friends, the members of Zeta Mu Chapter, families feeling the loss of their loved ones and the entire Virginia Tech community. Zeta Mu has and continues to receive tremendous support from their advisers, Province and Regional Directors. The chapter held an emergency meeting this week to be with each other and to make chapter members aware of the support that is being provided on campus and within Kappa. The chapter members also attended the convocation ceremony and candlelight vigil on the Virginia Tech campus. Several advisers have been with the women and others have been in constant communication with the chapter members. Many have reached out to members of Zeta Mu asking how they may send gifts or financial memorials. Zeta Mu Chapter encourages that in lieu of gifts to the chapter donations may be made to one of two foundations near and dear to their hearts: The Virginia Tech Foundation and specifically the "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund” in the name of Caitlin Hammaren (www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php) The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation in the name of Caitlin Hammaren (www.kappa.org/donation) Condolences to the women of Zeta Mu may be sent to: Zeta Mu Chapter c/o Kappa Kappa Gamma Headquarters P.O. Box 38 Columbus, Ohio 43216-0038 Thank you all for your concern and outstanding support for Zeta Mu Chapter and Virginia Tech. Please keep those who lost their lives, those that have been injured and their grieving families in your thoughts and prayers." is on the Kappa homepage. Thanks so much to everyone. I never met Caitlin, but a sister is a sister, and I know the support means a lot. |
