Columbus State Univ. sorority colonization

I just received this in an e-mail from one of the higher-ups with Gamma Phi Beta...

Gamma Phi is a finalist (along with Alpha Omicron Pi and Alpha Gamma Delta) to be considered for colonizing (starting) a new chapter at CSU in the Fall of 2007. A local sorority, Alpha Delta Omega, is interested in affiliating with an NPC group.

Anyone have any further information on this?

aopirose 04-09-2007 03:54 PM

We are presenting tomorrow.

kk_bama 04-09-2007 03:57 PM

Gamma Phi presents on Wednesday.

FSUZeta 04-09-2007 03:58 PM

good luck to all the presenting sororities!!

carnation 04-09-2007 04:00 PM

Hey, cool! A lot of local kids go there!

Tom Earp 04-09-2007 04:00 PM

The best of luck to each and one who apply for going on campus!:)

Sweet. It's nice to hear that AGD is presenting as well. Crossing my fingers and toes that it works out at UTSA and Columbus State!

NutBrnHair 04-09-2007 04:06 PM

Columbus State University? I'm assuming this is in Columbus, GA?

(Yet another Southern school that is NEWS to me!)

Is it a former community college?

SWTXBelle 04-09-2007 04:08 PM

I'm running out of fingers to cross! Okay, so one set for U of TX - San Antonio, and another for Columbus!

carnation 04-09-2007 05:07 PM

NutBrnHair, I think they mean the one down in Columbus, GA; it's really growing and they only have 2 groups--Phi Mu and DZ.

If you are right, and the school is growing, maybe the GLO's will grow also!:)

carnation, how is Troy doing?

Hopefully all are dong well and being prosperous!:D

carnation 04-09-2007 05:36 PM

You mean, my college and not Troy? They're doing great! :)

OleMissGlitter 04-09-2007 05:41 PM

Good luck to everyone! :)

AGDLynn 04-09-2007 05:47 PM

Cool!

According to Mapquest, it's about 1.25 minutes from my house; the chapter I advise is 45 minutes.

Too bad I'm moving...

Hey, Alpha Gam..let's try for Georgia Gwinnett College;)

It began as a community college in the 1940's and transitioned to a 4-year in 1965.

UGAalum94 04-09-2007 07:31 PM

Columbus is really close to the Georgia/Alabama line and about 35 miles from Auburn University. So the alums you could pull on for support could be in either state.

Good luck to all the groups!

(but I may have a favorite)

texas*princess 04-09-2007 07:37 PM

best of luck to all the groups presenting!

tinydancer 04-09-2007 11:08 PM

Oh, I didn't know about this one! I'll hold a good thought!

PeppyGPhiB 04-10-2007 01:10 AM

All of these presentations (and charters) at Southern colleges makes me wonder if Gamma Phi is gearing up to go after a school like Florida, Texas or Ole Miss down the line. Our expansion team has been working like crazy apparently!

I think you have the right idea... I know the new VP of Collegiate Extension. She lives in Birmingham and is all about expanding more in the South.

All of our new chapters in the past decade or so have been in the South, with the exception of one in Penn., if I'm not mistaken!

UCFStefanie 04-14-2007 11:10 AM

I am the current chapter adviser for Alpha Delta Omega at CSU. All three sororities have presented this week and did extremely well. I know Panhellenic will have a tough decision.

Good Luck to all three groups. I would say I would keep yall updated but I am kind of slow on this posting thing so inevitably someone will make it on the board before I am able too.

SWTXBelle 04-14-2007 12:32 PM

Thanks for the update - any idea exactly when the vote is to be taken???

Tom Earp 04-14-2007 03:00 PM

Wonder what size they are in students?

Seems the Greeks have a lot of locals so should be open for expansion!

Any it good!:)

Oh, there is nothing wrong for having locals, but it does give a big bigger mix and more security.

Well, my chapter was installed in Jan. 1997, in California, and I think Valpo and one other (St. John's?) followed shortly after. But you're right that almost all of the ones since my installation have been in the south.

Look, Tom found a new page of smilies.

Raise you hand if you feel violated.

UCFStefanie 04-29-2007 09:32 PM

Yes AOPi will be absorbing the Local group Alpha Delta Omega.

Sorry about the delay. I was refraining from posting here because our women did not find out that AOPi had been selected to colonize until tonights chapter meeting. They were extremely excited and can't wait to start working with the national organization.

Thanks for everyone's support!
