candidates for National President

Have any of you studied all of the candidates? Have you decided who is best for the office?

sphinxpoet 04-11-2007 08:50 AM

I have my ideas but I will keep it to myself at this time lol!!!

Professor 04-27-2007 09:55 AM

Well, I receive an e-mail or something from one of them each week. I really need to do more than skim the messages.

Phrozen1ne 07-11-2008 10:27 PM

Well I guess pretty soon will know who the next general president will be....

Senusret I 07-12-2008 08:34 AM

And the winner will be...... Keenan Ivory Wayans!

Nooooooooooooooo!! LOL:eek:

It seems like the "system" is set up for D. Peale, although my preference is Skip Mason--I think he brings a different energy, not quite as "status quo."

I honestly feel that the primary system favors peale, but the general election favors skip. I quite honestly was shocked at the number of delegates peale had, but then again (in my opinion) it would have been different if the east hadn't been split three ways.

I hope you're correct---not that the GP can do but so much; still, I just have this gut feeling about D. Peale that he's a complete figure head. I don't see real "vision" in anything I've heard from him.

My grad chapter all sent in their ballots (collectively) for Peale as majority vote had indicated. I abstained and sent mine in separately and just told them I forgot to bring it to chapter meeting.

Yeah I couldn't get with that collective voting mess. Everyone is entitled to vote for who he thinks should be GP. Everyone is factoring in experience, but having experience alone doesn't always make you the best candidate.

And I agree with you on the experience thing. But I tend toward having a problem with authority anyway:cool: . I remember when I was about a year old one of my prophytes asked how I felt now that I had been around for a little bit and I told him, I love being an Alpha BUT I have a hard time with the way nationals is run--it's basically a corporation and feels disconnected from the "grassroots" of everyday brothers. His response: "Yeah, I think everyone feels that way" (this was circa 1992-93). "Experience" to me, at that level, equates to "more of the same."

I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for, but I think emphasizing strength of the brotherhood, greater transparency, a stronger linkage between alumni and college chapters for mentorship as well as intergenerational fellowship, and a better sense of history (re-invigorating the meaning and origins behind all the rituals in a cultural-historical context) would be good. I think Skip comes closer to those aims and ideals than Peale does.

You know, when you made that statement about the ballots I had a gut feeling I already knew what chapter you were in. I will PM you. (private message)

Sometimes I feel that way to although I am alot younger in the frat than you.:o
I do believe each has what the other needs to win.

Senusret I 07-13-2008 03:01 PM

I'm waiting for an undergrad to run for General President.

Keenan Ivory Wayans has a better chance of winning.

Senusret I 07-13-2008 03:07 PM

I don't need the undergrad to win, I need his presence to make a statement to the "old guard."

Of the six original candidates, I feel that only Cecil and Skip were the real outsiders.

I love outsiders.

You and I are >>>>>>>>>HERE<<<<<<<<<. I just want something different that will invigorate the brotherhood.

Exactly waht I'm saying. Everything is so....safe. I was inactive for 10 years (95-05) because I was disenchanted with the national org. I never "disavowed" ---worked waaay too hard for that---but Alpha definitely was not a priority for a good long while. Now, I'm trying to find a niche within probably the biggest chapter in the frat (as far as dues-paying members). But I'm looking for a GP who has a real handle on how to connect and excite the masses (is it too late to get Barack Obama as an Alphaman and have him run for GP instead of POTUS lol?)

Senusret I 07-14-2008 11:40 AM

You need to check your PMs, bro. :)

rachild 07-15-2008 06:20 PM

I have, I just haven't had a chance to call you yet--wife is out of town (at Boule') and I have 2 kids, a puppy and a cat to take care of lol.

Senusret I 07-17-2008 08:27 PM

I can't stand it, I need to know!!!! Why won't they hurry up????

Senusret I 07-18-2008 12:05 AM

ooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Senusret I 07-18-2008 07:13 AM

Brothers,
It brings me great honor to annouce that Bro. Skip Mason is our 33rd General President Elect. The past 2 years has been a journey but with much support and for the many who "Believed in the 7!" this is definitely a great moment for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Get ready for Alpha to take her rightous place at the forefront of change especially with a Visionary leader such as our 33rd General President Skip Mason.

OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.."BELIEVE IN THE 7!" and "Believe in Skip Mason"

Congratulations to my Alpha Father and Mentor Bro. Skip Mason!!!!!!

Bro. Travis Johnson

Phrozen1ne 07-18-2008 12:45 PM

Congrats to Brother Mason! :D:D:D Onward and Upward!

RBL 07-18-2008 03:24 PM

rachild 07-18-2008 09:47 PM

(Marv Albert voice) YESSSSS!!!!!

ChiefJustICE 07-22-2008 12:43 AM

Congratulations are in store for the Good Bro. General President Elect Skip Mason. Lets take Alpha to the next level!

rachild 07-22-2008 11:21 AM

next level?

In response to the last post: this brings up a point for me, just for discussion: what do you all see as "the next level" for "our dear A-Phi-A." (?) Without getting too specific or "dirty-laundry-airing" (not that we have any, mind you:rolleyes:), what would you all like to see happen under the auspices and guidance of Bro. Mason that has not been happening but should be, or has been happening but shouldn't? (that last question probably is a little stickier).

Who is the Winner

Did anyone receive an official notification. My line brother received an e-mail saying XYZ is the winner but I have not received anything. However, I did receive a call saying many ballots were not counted because they were not submitted by the deadline.

Professor 07-24-2008 08:38 AM

Sorry Brothers - could not view the last page for some reason but now I see it. I hope to see many of you in Atlanta.

Professor 07-24-2008 08:41 AM

retooling intake, retaining membership, lowering the cost of conventions

that would be splendiferous. (not that the others wouldn't be, too). I would like to see a 'sliding scale' or per-diem rate (max. 3 days) for partial registration, for the brothers (like myself in '06) who could only make part of the week (2-3 days) and therefore didn't/don't consider it fair or worthwhile to pay a silverback sized sum of money for a chimp's worth of participation. I realize that if this was put in place, a lot of people might not go for the whole week, but it would be more honest and might actually boost overall registration, since you might have brothers who wouldn't ordinarily go that could come at the reduced rate (particularly undergrads, people who own their own businesses, and/or other folks who just can't get away).

06pilot 08-17-2008 11:03 PM

CONGRADULATIONS to Bro. Skip Mason

Professor 08-18-2008 08:06 AM

Will any of you be in Atlanta? My chapter is debating taking a trip.

Senusret I 08-18-2008 08:07 AM
