What's your favorite scary movie?
Being that today is Halloween, I thought I'd ask in my best "Scream" killer voice. "What's your favorite scary movie?"
|
"Carrie" is a good one.
|
I usually don't watch scary movies. I'm a big chicken. But the scariest one I have seen is the one with Pinhead. I don't remember the name.
Okay, I was informed that the movie is called Hell Raiser. [This message has been edited by MIDWESTDIVA (edited October 31, 2000).] |
I would say my all-time scariest is a classic...the original Halloween. I guess I'm from the old school. The first Scream was pretty scary as well. Others that I would rank up there include The Shining, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (for pure shock value), and Seven (a different kind of scary). And before the Nightmare on Elm Street series dissolved into "what cool catch phrase is Freddy going to use this time," the original kept me awake at night.
|
Omen 1 and 2. Amityville Horror 1 and 2. Stir of Echoes and End of days was pretty good. What lies beneath(Harrison Ford), house on haunted hill, the haunting was a bad movie but it had good suspense, Cape Fear(Gotta love Robert Deniro in that), dead again(where the guy is buried alive in the movie), Children of the Corn. BTW, I have walked these flight of steps in Georgetown, D.C. that were rumored to have been filmed in the exorcist movie.

And you know...no matter how many times I see it...I STILL scream when that darn hand comes out. EEEEK! |
I'm a big Stephen King fan!!! My all time favorite (Herrrrrre's Johnny!) is The Shining. If you have digital cable, it's running on either one of the Showtimes or Thriller MAX.
|
I would have to say the Scream series, and the "Last Summer" ones as well. I'm way too chicken to watch the really scary ones, like The Exorcist or Carrie. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

I like the "I know what you did last summer and sequel." Scream was good too, except I made the mistake of seeing Scream 2 before watching the first one. Needless to say, I spent half the movie asking what were they talking about when the first movie was referenced. My date wasn't too happy and since then, anytime we watch a sequel, he asks if I've seen the first one.
It took me a while to get the nerve to watch Carrie, The Shining (something about Jack Nicholson's characted still bothers me), and Friday the 13th without covering my eyes. I still haven't gather the nerve to see The Exorcist. |
My list:
Carrie Omen Series Nightmare on Elm Street Series Childs Play The Birds(Hitchcock) Scream I know what you did Last Summer Halloween Series Rosemary's Baby The Exorcist Texas Chainsaw Massacre Jason Series(can't remember name) Sleepaway Camp pt 1(really bad b-movie) The Other Phantasm 1 (love it,love it! nothing else like it!) The Shining I too am a King fan, Clive Barker also I have more but this is all I have off the top of my head... X girl [This message has been edited by theXgirl (edited November 01, 2000).] |
Rosemary's Baby was soooo creepy!! But I do LOVE the 1st Halloween.
|
Exorcist.
When I saw it, I could have swore my sister's head was going to spin. Freaked me out. Also Battlefield Earth. It's scary that a movie this crappy is made. |

Ok, I once saw this really BAD movie, really bad B movie. You could tell it was seriously low budget. (I was in high school--oh goodness) It was about this guy who all through the movie pulled off chicken heads with his mouth. He eventually ended up near a farmhouse--eating chicken heads, and starts tormenting the 'alone' housewife by trying to break in. It was so bad, we laughed through the whole thing instead of screaming. I've never seen a worse movie in my life. It was totally predictable, and you could sooooo tell the chickens weren't real.
|
lol * speaking of chickens -- Remember "Angel Heart" with Lisa Bonet.
I liked "Prophecy" (the 1st one), "Stigmata", and "End of Days". X Girl, I liked Phantasm I also. And let's not forget about everybody's favorite bad guy & his twisted sense of humor --- Freddy Krueger. [This message has been edited by tickledpink (edited November 02, 2000).] |

As far as scary movies - I am so chicken. Big fat huge Bak Bak over here! But - I did see the Exorcist and it did nothing for me. It was gross (which I really hate about scary movies by the way - I'd much rather be scared than grossed out). I saw Scream and it did scare me. It scared me so much that I don't even want to see the other 2, but people say they are just as good - I find that hard to believe with any sequel (unless its the Indiana Jones or Lethal Weapon variety). We watched The Haunted the other night - so stupid! But I was still afraid when we went to bed http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif - Huge Chicken! BAK BAK! |
I know it's no longer Halloween... but how could y'all have ignored the scariest!!!?? (I've seen Exorcist, Omen, Rosemary's Baby Shining, Carrie, Salem's Lot, all the "Jasons", all the "Freddies", etc. -- and this was the only one to give me nightmares.)
Silence of the Lambs |
I know it's over...but...
The Exorcist scared the life out of me...For weeks after I saw it, I swore the bed started shaking when I tried to go to sleep... The Blair Witch Project scared me too, but only because I thought that it was the real footage (I found out the next day that it wasn't)... Carrie was cool also...The hand out of the grave part scares me to death everytime too... Pet Cemetary was ridiculously scary for me...especially that part with the dead sister in the room with the messed up back... Pretty much all of the Stephen King movies got me- BUT THE BOOKS ARE WAAAAAAAAY scarier, because your imagination takes over. You'll be suprised (and scared of) what your own mind can come up with... |
You know, I had a really crappy day at work today. I just got on and saw this post first and my stomach hurts from laughing so much!
Thanks you guys http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif 1.CutiePie2000--> That would be the "Friday the 13th" series! Mwah! Ha! Ha! It is so freaking funny with the guy digging at his scalp with the clothes hanger and singing 'Bringing in the Sheaves' Ditto! Franny Granny, You hit it on the head about Stephen King. His books are WAYYYYY better than the movies. The human imagination is great isn't it? (IT) [This message has been edited by theXgirl (edited November 03, 2000).] |
Carrie affected me the most. Guess I first saw it when I was having many of the feelings and fears depicted in the flick.
|
Hello everyone. I was just browsing the forums and came across this interesting topic. For years I've been telling people that the scariest movie I've ever seen was Carrie, they would look at me like I was some type of nut. That movie scared me soo bad that I can't watch it now. The first time I watched it I had to be about 10 or 11 yrs. old. Every since that traumatizing scene when they pour the blood on her I haven't been right. I can't stand to hear the music. My mother always pick on me about that movie. She calls the house to tell me that it's coming on.
I am glad to see that my twin sister and I aren't the only scardy-cats when it comes to Carrie. Much love Stace |

My favorites are:
Halloween Series Stigmata Scream 1 The Blair Witch Project (Yes I know, but try watching it at midnight, when you're the only one in your house cuz your roommate is gone like ALL of your neighbors on spring break, and no one is around........this was the second time I saw this movie other than "at the movies" I kept hearing noises outside I swear and I didnt sleep all night) None of these movies I'll watch alone :) |
Fatal Attraction with Michael Douglass and
This guy has a perfectly normal affair and Glen Close becomes psycho bitch from hell. Boils there bunny rabbit. Tries to kill him and comes back to life. Terrified men all over America. |

While Fear (I think this is the title of the one with Reese Witherspoon and Marky Mark) wasnt about the girl cheating on the guy, the bf/ex-bf was quite the psycho........ |
I'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to scary movies... I want to see them because of all the hype, but I don't want to have nightmares! Poltergeist always freaked me out... I think it's the 2nd one-- the one with Lara Flynn Boyle in that apartment complex with that pool scene. I have memories of watching Pet Cemetary at sleepovers, and it always scared me.
