Random Information You Learned on or because of GreekChat
Obviously, we probably expect to learn Greek related stuff here, but the recent "I don't have a lease; can my landlord kick me out?" thread made me think about how many random non-greek-related bits of information I had either learned directly here: AKAMonet's gracious tutorial about food safety and cloning, or that I looked up because of something I read here: the definition of negligent homicide, Georgia eviction laws, etc.
What's the most random, not Greek related thing that you have learned on GreekChat? (And no, I didn't search before to see if this thread already existed. Just let me know and I'll delete it.) |

Right, but the thread caused me to look up the local laws, and I think that happens with a lot of issues on GreekChat.

This is one I started ages ago:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...e+learned+from ...but it's really old! It'd be great to hear what else people have learned since then. As for me, the non-Greek stuff I've learned here has either been latebreaking news or shockingly off color stuff about my husband always asks,"Did you learn that on Greek Chat?":D |
That the "brothel law" is just a myth!

Some job/career related things.
Lots of good recipes. LOTS of sex stuff...except for the pegging, thank one of my pledge daughters for showing me that (porn, not actual technique), lol. |

ETA: Ew, just looked up "pegging" on urbandictionary.com. Thanks a lot, Dionysus. At least, thank goodness, there were no illustrations. |
I learned about territorial waters :D

Pegging (though I could have lived without learning what that was all about)

I learned most people are 30% as smart as they think they are, but are 90% more opinionated.

I learned that there really are crazy people out there just bursting at the seams to live out their college dream of being in an NPC sorority. (Ok, still Greek-related, but not a normal "GLO Fact".) |
I learned that you should do your cardio exercise after strength training so that the weightlifting burns the glycogen stores in your muscles (carbs) and the cardio burns the fat off your body.

Hoodies are NF! Also that people actually do get dressed up for football games and going to class, though why this is done is beyond me.

I haven't heard or seen Kili in forever -- but I'll make sure she comes out when you're here! |
I was thinking about the whole Rwanda tribal identity as a product of colonization thing that I think Centaur, was it you who set me straight on? How did that come up on GreekChat?

It seems like it would be unlikely to reveal itself in the recruitment threads, but maybe I'm wrong. |

I learned that a "pineapple" is a symbol of hospitality / welcoming at someone's house in The South.
I think I also got a better idea of what Southerners consider iced tea. I had never heard of "Cold Stone Creamery" until I saw it discussed on GC (hey, we don't have it here in Maple Leaf Land). We *DO* however, have "Marble Slab" Creamery. |
Off of the LXA Thread about History that I missed.
