Alpha Chi Pi
I looked around but didn't find a thread about this. Anyone seen this yet?
http://www.alphachipi.com/ I'm a bit disturbed by their "sponsor"... Quote:

Lol o wow. I love competing in pageants, but I don't think I would ever join a sorority that was all about pageants!
|
that's.... special!
Their membership benefits include: Quote:
super fun but not worth the $125 fee imho!!! :p |
It's called a sorority, but I think it fits better under society or honorary. The benefits and stuff remind me more of those type of groups.
|
I'm sorry, but a lot of these "pageants" are businesses (especially for children. I'm not talking about Miss USA/Miss America and their qualifying pageants). This isn't a real sorority. It's just another pageant dressed up to look like a sorority. Looks like the owners of the Royal Icing jewelry business want to expand into pageants and decided to name it Alpha Chi Pi.

Click on "members" and take a look at the charter members. Some of those girls look all of 5 or 6 years old.

Interesting marketing ploy to get more business for their company....

"Queen's Sorority for World Peace"
Damn, I couldnt help but think of Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality when I read that. Somebody give me a yarf bag. |
|
My favorite part? The "Alpha Ki Pi"
|
I like that even though it says Alpha Chi Pi on the website, the top of the page says Alpha Ki Pi.
EDIT: Wow, beaten like a redheaded stepchild. |
I was really impressed by the fact that while half of the links still read "under construction" (such as the mission statement), the online store seems to be up and running quite well.
on a side note, while several of my friends enjoyed entering pagents, it was never anything I did. But there was one pagent I always wished I had entered- New Straightsville Ohio has a Moonshine Festival. I thought it would be great to be the Moonshine Queen. Imagine- "Hi, I'm Jen the Apple Queen" - response "Oh yeah, Well I'm the Moonshine Queen!" Moonshine queen wins every time! |
Oh my gosh...I think someone needs a reality check...that is just awful!
|
"Alpha Ki Pi".. hahahaha...
What a kooky idea. I have to say tho, my "family" in our chapter was the Royal Family, so if I were still an active I would be all about the princess and crown jewelery. *ducks and hides* ;) |
There is something wrong when it takes 5 girls to do their "hand sign".:p
Oh, and the fact that it's just a huge marketing scam is pretty wrong too. |
Well, hell, I was Miss Greek Goddess...I wonder if that qualifies me for a membership, lol.
|
This is terrible!
This is a total marketing ploy for little girls (and little girls' moms!)!! I know its just the Zeta in me, but I have to say though they did have some SUPER CUTE five pointed crown items in that online store..........

I must say though...the website looks pretty awesome...and I do really like their picture how they made their letters out of their arms...it's cute.
Here's my conclusion: If you're younger than 18....join the Girl Scouts. If you're older than 18 and are at a college with Greek Life....then go through recruitment. Chances are that if you've gone through pageant stuff you are able to talk to people and are well liked and will find a sorority you like. And what's the pledge process? You have to win a crown to be a member? Then when you're a member what do you do? Just keep winning crowns? I know pageants are hard work and everything. I went to high school with this year's Miss Pennsylvania....she has always been an honors student and philanthropist. To compete while in college is tough. But to do all of that AND be active in a sorority would be even tougher to balance. This AXII thing seems like a joke to me to mock sororities, a way to make money, or a way for pageant girls to be in a sorority and compete in pageants without doing the extra...non pageant related work. |

American
Co-Ed Pagents oh ha ha ha. Is anyone else a BIT weirded out by the little girls blowing kisses at the man in the green jacket on the front page?! |

As somebody who competes in the Miss America system actively I find this whole thing pretty disgusting. It gives the majority of young women who compete, who are hard-working, talented and driven individuals a bad image. Please don't judge us by what pretty much seems to be a big scam:(

Also, Miss Congeniality is my favourite movie of all-time and I can quote it line for line. I think I just like it because Sandra Bullock's character is like me and sororities. |

I'm a volunteer (business manager/co-director and webmaster) in the Miss America system, and I found the whole "Alpha Chi Pi" idea ridiculous. Besides, the national Miss America contestants have a sorority of their own: Mu Alpha Sigma. We thought about starting one for volunteers and directors, but nothing came of that.
I'm sure American Co-Ed Pageants is a legit outfit...even know a few women who have competed in that system, but $125 is a little much to shell out all at one time for what you get. OTOH, I'm sure that dues for an NPC organization are at least that per semester. Many contestants I work with belong to sororities, and the whole idea sounded like a lot of fun, so I set out to search for an organization I could join. I found Beta Sigma Phi, and love every minute of it. :) Any of you contestants out there who want to talk pageants in general, Miss America in particular, feel free to shoot me a PM! I'd love to have a conversation with you. Got my state meeting this weekend, so I'm looking forward to that. Sorry so longwinded. |
