DATELINE: To Catch a Predator

If you don't know what it is, it's punk'd for pedophiles.

Most hilarious show ever.

Discuss.

smiley21 03-06-2007 06:11 PM

This is the show that I hate to admit that I like. It is really sad and just plain sick to see these men anticipating sex with 14 year old girl. Then they see Chris Hansen with all the cameras, and they are like, "uh I just came into this house to ask for directions." or "I know I drove 200 miles, but I came to tell the girl that I think this is a bad idea"....yeah whatever.

I don't know why I keep watching this show. I guess I get a kick out of seeing these (sometimes incredibly ugly) men get what they deserve.

But I have to admit, the way Chris Hansen confronts these men is hysterical. He is perfect for that job.

Virtual Violet 03-06-2007 06:42 PM

Sad, but comical as well. I do watch this show and as an attorney, I am AMAZED at what the "alleged" pedophiles will admit to on camera AFTER they know they are on Dateline WITHOUT an attorney present.

Chris Hansen was on Jay Leno's show last week and said the conviction rate so far is 100%....Not surprising after the dummies admit to the internet conversations, having condoms, liquor, and anticipating sex with a minor:mad:

This was pretty funny

smiley21 03-06-2007 09:10 PM

I am watching it now. This episode is creepy cause it is in Flagler Beach and that is 45 min from me.

Bluejamm 03-06-2007 09:23 PM

1 out of a hundred

I'm watching now too...this is crazy! Do they come because it's their first time? I bet for all the ones they catch..there are hundreds that get away with this stuff.

firecracker08 03-06-2007 09:27 PM

That guy is extremely old!

piscesbabi09 03-06-2007 10:11 PM

haha this show is great..i love how they see the man and be like i just came over to make sure she was ok because she said she was alone...hmmm?

I've only seen bits of episodes while flipping through channels. The last time, there was a guy who had been caught on a previous episode. He had a court date for that charge and the very next day, he was trying to meet up with another "teenage girl". Turned out it was Dateline again. He got busted again and he was refusing to go outside because he knew the cops were out there.

ShaedyKD 03-06-2007 10:46 PM

Anyone remember the Indian dude from a while back? "Not goot." Such a great line.

How scary was the dude from a few episodes ago who had duct tape and ropes in the back of his car and said he used that stuff for "work."

Watching this show is so much more interesting than writing an appellate brief on this topic.

smiley21 03-06-2007 10:46 PM

I cannot believe that old guy who said, "I just wanted to be her friend. I am not physically able to have sex anymore". He really thought that line was going to work.

AGDee 03-07-2007 12:31 AM

Being the mom of a teenage girl, those shows scare me to death. It's so hard to wrap your head around the fact that are so many men who are doing this. And, as someone pointed out above, these are only the ones that are caught on camera during this show.

ZTABullwinkle 03-07-2007 01:52 AM

Was anyone else SHOCKED?!?! when the police officer showed up with the "arsenal" of weapons? It is scary to even realize what could have happened....

kdonline 03-07-2007 03:35 AM

I watch the show every time it's on. I'm always amazed that Chris Hansen can keep a straight face with some of these guys!

Also, if you need to further disturb your mind, read it all & see it all uncensored: http://www.perverted-justice.com/

I am a big fan of what they do, but PJ's website absolutely sucks. It's terrible to try to read.

AznSAE 03-07-2007 11:50 AM

they need to do at least one episode where its the women who is trying to meet and have sex with a young boy/girl. either way, its a mess and people who have seen the show are still getting caught.

KSUViolet06 03-07-2007 08:52 PM

I love how Chris Hansen just nonchalantly stolls out and is like "hey there" on every episode.

It's also funny when the guys say things like "I wasn't going to have sex with her. We were just going to talk and watch TV." Riiight.

don't forget the school principal... that one was good.

smiley21 03-07-2007 10:28 PM

The one I will never forget is when a man brought his 5 yr old son with him. The police had to call the mother to come pick up the boy while they took the dad away. Can you imagine being a mother and getting a call like that?!

piscesbabi09 03-18-2007 10:04 PM

^^^
that would be creeepy...i remember on one show they caught several people from the military..now that was crazy..can you imagine what that 5yr old boy was thinking?

kdonline 03-19-2007 04:51 PM

I am really disappointed that I missed last week's show - the wrapup of Hansen's investigations (follow-ups, interviews w/ suspects' family members & plug for his book). I keep checking MSNBC to see if they'll repeat it, but so far it's not showing up in my Tivo searches.

So if anyone notices that it's going to be on again, please post!

AGDee 03-19-2007 11:03 PM

Well, it wasn't Dateline, but this story is really creepy... A State Police Sergeant is under arrest, accused of trying to solicit a minor through the internet.
The Attorney General's office says Kevin Hardoin was chatting with what he thought were 13 and 14 year old girls he met in chatrooms.

That's the one for me too - I almost cried when I saw that, and I just have little brothers, not kids of my own. Sick, sick people.

ziasha07 03-24-2007 08:45 PM

It's pathetic. Especially those who are repeat offenders or have seen the show.

Can't say I've seen the show, but I don't really have a problem with these guys admitting all kinds of stuff on camera without an attorney.

Last thing I want is some attorney to keep these scumbags on the streets.

I really don't understand how some lawyers are able to represent these creepy old men. If I was a lawyer, I would have a serious problem defending some sicko like that in court.

My knowledge of the legal world is very limited, but when I was in high school, I was hired to be an assistant and I only stayed 2 weeks at that job. The lawyer's words to me were "we play to win" because if they won, they got paid.

I can't say I had a very high opinion of him. I told him I was resigning because my senior project was going to take up a lot more time than I anticipated, but deep inside all I could think was "how do you sleep at night you money-grubbing bastard!!"

BadSquirrelBeta 12-29-2007 02:36 AM

Ok show at new level...

Chris has a new show on tonight with the decoy actually meeting face to face with the sick-o's before Chris comes out, and the decoy will say, "what did you bring me" and sicko will say "condoms"...things along those lines...ack!

I so want to bathe my eyes out with bleach while watching this show, but I just can't turn away from it...

Dateline has to do it that way now. Those "predators" easily know the old way by now. Honestly, I think it is for the viewers' benefit, because even if the men don't get out of their cars, they are still arrested for showing up there.

kathykd2005 12-29-2007 11:37 AM

Last night's show was hilarious. It made me think--"Don't tase me bro." haha

BadSquirrelBeta 12-29-2007 02:49 PM

Still grossing out here...

Oh yeah! And that guy screamed like a little girl! Then the handicapped guy...who admitted to doing it before. But the one that scared me the most was that convicted molester that wouldn't sit down...he was going to go after that girl.

PhiGam 12-29-2007 03:19 PM

Yeah, I was that guy for halloween. Jean shorts, a gator hat, and a shirt that said "UF: Taser Nation."

That guy scared the be-jeebus out of me, too. He was like, "Come here, little girl!" It's a good thing they are catching these creepy men, before they ruin some poor little girl or boy's life.

That dude was scary. He looked rabid or something. And it was also sick that those guys were like, "I want to hold you". "oooooOh...I want a kiss" and acting all cute and flirty. GROSS! GROSS! GROSS!

o.k., why do the majority of you find this show hilarious, entertaining even. I can't even stomach the idea of the show.

Why is that? Yes, I DO like the idea that someone out there is doing something to catch these disgusting perverts from ruining little girls and little boys' lives. And yes, I DO find it entertaining that they think they are going to get away with it, and walk out of the door. Do you have any idea what these people are thinking? They walk into a house where parents aren't home. They find a little girl or a little boy alone. I like the idea that someone, somewhere is doing something about this atrocity, and someone is protecting the innocent. What if that was your kid he was going to molest? I bet you'd think differently about the show then. I'm glad they started "To Catch a Predator" and that there are organizations out there like "Perverted Justice." If there weren't, hundreds of children would be in therapy for the abuse they'd endure due to these sick people.

What I cannot stomach is the idea that perverts ARE getting away with it. So yes, in this case, I do find enjoyment in their misery after getting caught.

pirate00 12-29-2007 10:16 PM

not to shift gears, but did you catch the Steve Wilkos show where he got some sex offender to admit he was up to his old tricks and was arrested after the show? Riveting.
