I can't stand it when people can't tell the freaking difference between "a part" and "apart".
Two different meanings, people. To the OP -- my advice? Go ask the members what OWT means. That'll get you in for sure!!!! :D |
I'm sorry but if you do not know the answer to that basic question, then you will never know.
It's a gut feeling, a calling, almost... fate. |
Okay, whose alter ego is this? :D

I totally agree... and since we're talking English... it drives me nuts when people are past the 2nd grade and still aren't sure which form of you're/your their/there/they're to use. :o |

I didn't think so. So what do you know about me or the pleasures I get from anything? All of you people need to get over yourselves!!! What's your problem? Were you never picked to play kickball as a child or something? Are YOU now harrassing ME? This is uncalled for and you're causing ME pain. Are you taking pleasure in that? What are you getting out of this? See how silly that sounds? That's SO how you sound right now! |

I was going to say something really mean, but because you and I share letters I'll spare you for now. A piece of advice? Choose your battles wisely. |

I so humbly apologize to Babygirl, Mercer, and bIueangel for being so mean, immature and nasty. I accept my punishment.
And when I grow up, I want to be just like them--mature, non-judgemental, nice, sweet, and above all reproach. |
ok children. Let's all play nice now. Either that or everyone play dirty and let's not have lectures about right and wrong. Just because some people think something is rude doesn't mean that other people do.
If you can't say something nice.... say what you really think and be prepared to deal with the concequences! |

And, FTR, I'm not "scrambling" to defend anything because I don't feel that my comments were cruel. They were observations made in jest and if you can't interpret that, sit on it and spin. Oops? Was that cruel too? Geez! Some people... |

I know grammar really well Soror MzDiscreet, but I always mess up apart and a part. Educate me please. :D [/HIJACK] |
Typing/keyboarding errors are one thing. I'm sure plenty of us have typed "teh" when we intended to type "the" and from the context of what others type and what we read over, most of us accept that the odd missed keystroke and we carry on.
However, when the mistyped word causes the meaning to be the OPPOSITE of what was intended and someone writes that they want to be "apart" (i.e. excluded from consideration) from a group, as opposed to striving to "join" (i.e. become a part of) a member of that group, that is another thing entirely. It reminds me of a certain GC'er who likes to write "foopah" to mean "faux pas". However, when I read "foopah", I think of "FUPA", which IMO, is just plain gross. |

a part = a singular portion or segment of a whole, a singular role in a play/recital, or a single dividing line :D |
Can I just take a minute to point out that the OP was not so much asking for an answer to the question of "why XZY?" but some advice on how to present her answer without sounding desparate. I got the impression she was asking about style, not content.
Now, I am not in the D9, so I don't know if that is still an inappropriate thing to ask, but maybe she already knows that she doesn't have the most polished communication skills, and wants some help. |
Need help with question

2) Find your closest MALE, NON-GREEK friend and read him your response. 3) Listen to what he says and revise accordingly. |

Now she is asking a question relating to membership. The NPHC forums state that they will not entertain questions relating to membership in their forums. Now I know what is said about assumptions, but because of her previous posts I have assumed she is seeking membership in a NPHC sorority. Therefore, the question is inappropriate to us, and it seemed she was going around our rules by posting here. If she is seeking membership in a NPC sorority, then I apologize and will keep quiet and let those GCers answer. |
