ABC Family new series: "Greek"

Anyone else see this?

I'm thinking it could be disastrous.

it's Mike Tyson.

Drolefille 03-02-2007 12:10 PM

EW. I hate myself now. (Does he really have a tattoo on his face?)

It's probably just henna...or paint, ala Umaga on RAW.

Drolefille 03-02-2007 12:16 PM

Damn me and my liking of facial tattoos. (For example I love the girl's stars on Miami Ink)

Actually, I have always been surprised that the old WB or the new CW hasn't ever based a show on Greek life. If you think of shows like Felicity, Dawson's Creek, and One Tree Hill, it would fit right in with their programming.

Drolefille 03-02-2007 01:21 PM

I did see a plot summary which I shall now try to post from memory.

Show focuses on a new college freshman (we shall call him Brother) Brother wants to join a fraternity but his big sister is in a sorority and doesn't want him to rush because he'll be all up in her business.

That's all it had.

I think the article said the brother was geeky and wanted to join, much to his sister's chagrin.

ASUADPi 03-02-2007 11:16 PM

I'm guessing the names of the sororities and fraternities will be as lame as the one's on 90210.

KEG anyone? :D

KDAngel 03-03-2007 11:53 PM

I'm a fan of ABC Family shows. Well most of them anyway. So I'll give it a chance. It would be fun to watch an interesting show based around Greek life though. Amazingly, no show's made that their whole plot yet, so it could be very interesting. And I think ABC Family is sugary-sweet enough to tackle the "issues" out there, without ruining the idea of Greek life. :)

That sounds like real life reversed for a guy on my campus and a girl I joined with...

Guy was in fraternity. Guy didn't want sister to join sorority. Mostly because all his brothers thought she was hot and he knew he'd never hear the end of it during greek week/homecoming if our sorority ever joined up with his.

Girl then becomes shining example of greek life and is now a leadership consultant.

trueblueZTA 03-04-2007 01:44 AM

Oh my god. I know at out campus Greeks are looked down on. It's not the "cool" thing to do. We have such a hard tim getting girls to join and now with the possiblity of a show like this on TV..our chances just got a whole lot slimmer.

SoCalGirl 03-04-2007 02:16 AM

If the whole series is based on being greek then they likely won't cast it in a completely horrible light. Maybe even something positive could make it on the air!

dzfan 06-01-2007 02:56 PM

My friend was telling me about this show -- I think it sounds great. I am looking forward to checking it out.

Oh yes, thanks for bringing my odd attraction to facial tattoos back to the surface, however full out animal body mods are not more me. I've seen lizard-man before and I assume "cat-man" there is cut of the same cloth.

KDAngel 07-10-2007 01:32 AM

OK, I'm sure plenty of people didn't like it, but I enjoyed it. There were some things that were over the top and exaggerated, but so many things were spot on. And the dorky lil brother reminded me of SO many freshmen fraternity pledges.

kayla0deegee 07-10-2007 01:23 PM

I just hope that the new freshman aren't watching this show thinking that's how it is going to be at college and then decide not to go through recruitment. Because it is nothing like that, at least at my school is wasn't.

tri-d 07-12-2007 08:47 AM

Realistic or not, I will be watching a few more episodes. I do think they stretched it a bit, but you almost have to for entertainment purposes.

a.e.B.O.T. 07-13-2007 09:48 PM

Here is what I got from the first episode:

Con: Nerds and Greeks are two different worlds
Pro: Fraternity men are very prevalent in US Politics and the Forbes 500
Con: Fraternity men are ALL hot and party
Pro: Gay men are in fraternities
Con: Sorority rushees are judged on what they wear
Pro: Recommendations are a plus
Con: Fraternities and Sororities give bids for not quality peep reasons, but for cover ups and what looks best on paper
Pro: a president of a sorority is an honor
Con: Bribes are acceptable to give to potential members
Pro: Outback looks delicious (it was a commercial)
Con: Fraternity men are sinners (thats from the confederate roomie)
Con: Social Life= Entire Life
Con: Pledges are lower the the fraternity they are joining (if i had to dress in drag, well it would be over)

BabyPiNK_FL 07-14-2007 01:03 AM

Loved the show, loved that Rusty went Kappa Tau Gamma (they seem a lot like my BF's fraternity minus the hazing). No it's not 100% real, but it's awesome tv. My favorite part was the Omega Chi Delta legacy busting out of the Kappa Tau Gamma house after an evening on the Down Low. I died laughing. I also loved the "paddle fight". The actors are great, the story lines aren't TOO far-fetched from reality or veer into the real Greek extremes, so I definitely will continue to watch.

DeltAlum 07-15-2007 02:25 AM

Just like real life.

AznSAE 07-16-2007 10:23 AM

does anyone know if this movie was filmed on location at a real college campus and in a real fraternity/sorority house?

cutie_cat_4ever 07-16-2007 09:58 PM

I guess after watching the past two episodes, I tried to be open minded on the plots. I was actually touched by Cappie's personality, the whole brother/sister thing, and how the brothers in Kappa cared about the pledges. Though on the other hand I really wanted to beat the s*** out of Rebecca.

Maybe come to think about, it may not shine too bad of a light of greek life after all.

smiley21 07-16-2007 10:10 PM

I just finished watching it and I liked it.

CEDAXO09 07-16-2007 10:31 PM

Nope, his tat is real... although, I thought tats on the face were illegal... but nevertheless, just thought I'd throw that out there.

CEDAXO09 07-16-2007 10:32 PM

I liked it too... It was stereotypical, but not TOO extreme (although the whole blackmailing @ the end thing was a bit much...)

I liked how the brothers of that fraternity helped out the new guy to hand in his test, and how they did the whole "school comes first" thing. It was corny, but at least it was somewhat on the side of Greek life. :)

cuteASAbug 07-16-2007 10:34 PM

I really liked tonight's episode. I liked how the Kappa Tau guys pulled together to help Rusty hand his test in and the little "awwww" moment in the end between Casey and Rusty. Although if I were Casey, I definitely wouldn't have been quite so classy about the text message and probably would have sent it to the press or Rebecca's father.

AppstatePhiMu 07-18-2007 03:44 AM

I loved this past episode. It was amazing and I can't wait for next weeks. I have to agree with you about Cappie helping out with the brothers. That was awesome. I am so glad that they are making this show. I really think that it will be a big hit and help some people become interested in becomming Greek. I hope that it helps us out on my campus, because being Greek here isn't really respected as it is on some campuses.

MysticCat 07-18-2007 08:16 AM

I was rolling with laughter during the Spartan/"Intro to 300" speech.

And those Omega pledge manuals were the biggest pledge manuals I've ever seen.

Interesting sidenote: I had to turn on closed captioning for part of the show because of a phone call. Everytime anyone on the show said "Omega Chi," the geniuses doing the CC typed "OMEGA KAI." (I did consider for a moment that it might be a Beta having a bit of fun.)

BabyPiNK_FL 07-19-2007 02:21 AM

I noticed that at well, but I didn't wanna seem like a nerd. What's up with these caption people??!! I guess they didn't want people to think Omega Chee or Key when they saw Chi?

KDAngel 07-19-2007 12:51 PM

My stupid DVR didn't tape it this week and it's yet to be posted on abcfamily.com ... waiting is no fun.

It's up now. My sister, her bf and I watched it this morning!

I think it's a cute show. A little heavy on the hazing, but overall it's good. I'm wondering if Cappie would treat Rusty like that if he wasn't that girl's brother.

Why would face tattoos be illegal?
