Black Snake Moan

Why?

Infamous12 02-20-2007 03:36 PM

LOL. My sentiments exactly. Why?

skeeliteful 02-20-2007 03:58 PM

What's this movie about? I keep hearing about it.

shinerbock 02-20-2007 04:10 PM

Not an AKA obviously, but I saw a Conan w/ Ricci, and she indicated it was about a promiscuous and generally troubled southern girl who makes friends w/ Samuel L. They were talking about how the cover was misleading, because it makes her look like she's his sexslave or something, while in actuality he's somewhat of a mentor figure to her. I dunno if this is accurate, but its what I gathered.

Drolefille 02-20-2007 04:16 PM

From the preview I saw I think he does chain her up to keep her from going *somewhere* whether that's back to an abusive boyfriend, or to her drunken/drugged/sex-crazed life I dunno. I think it was more than just handcuffs but it's been a while. But yeah, no sex-slave or anything.

Still BLUTANG 02-20-2007 04:45 PM

i saw the commercial for the first time last night. Ricci was in her underwear (a tank top maybe?) and chained up and Samuel J. was yelling (as usual).

weird beyond words.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 02-20-2007 04:56 PM

I watched the trailer for the movie on MySpace and he finds her near his house naked laying on the ground...I guess he chains her up to keep her from her wicked ways, drugs, sex, whatever...he sings blues or something to her and looks very sweaty and stinky throughout the trailer...Samuel L. has a knack for looking very sweaty quite often...  it looks like a very strange movie...

Why does that title sound like a bad porn flick?

Steeltrap 02-20-2007 07:57 PM

What surprises me is that it's being produced by John Singleton and Stephanie Allain, both AfAm.

SKEEphistAKAte 02-20-2007 09:04 PM

Same thing I heard..

I saw an interview where the actress said something to the effect that Samuel L. Jackson's character is like a best-friend of her character and he chains her up to keep her from going out to do drugs. The trailers are misleading. I might check it out.

teena 02-20-2007 09:08 PM

YES THEY DESERVED TO DIE AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HLEL!!!!

Samuel is seriously type casted

AKA2D '91 02-20-2007 09:08 PM

Controversy generates buzz, which generates moviegoers, which equates to (usually) cha-ching ($$$$)! :p

I don't know what you all are talking about. I'm going to find this trailer. :o

AKA2D '91 02-20-2007 09:16 PM

Found it:

http://www.moanmovie.com/

The title? It's different, but I'm not going to say a porn title. The poster is pushing it.

I've seen worse. John and 'em ARE pushing the envelope. It could become a cult classic.

Obsession8 02-20-2007 10:30 PM

I've seen some interviews and the trailer as well. I'm intrigued enough to go see it...provided that it actually makes its way down here to the 5th Circle of Hell (b.k.a. Monroe).

AKA2D '91 02-20-2007 10:36 PM

Some things won't EVA change!

You're gonna have to go to S'port. :p Shyt, you might have to go to Jackson.

They aren't EVEN having a neegra with a white chick in chains. Na. Not even in 2thousand and seven. lol

P.S. We play ya'll Nov. 10th. THAT'S.GOING.TO.BE.INTERESTING!

I'mJustMe 02-20-2007 10:42 PM

Okay...why did I think this was a sequel to Snakes on a Plane? lol, I had a slow moment! Looks interesting but I will probably wait till it comes out on dvd. Can't see myself going to see this one.

I know, soror. Unfortunately, I don't have a car (anymore), so I can't take weekend road trips to B.R. or "Port City" (never been, BTW) to go see the "real" movies I love. :(

Re: Nov. 10th: Yes! It'll be interesting, indeed! It's already an "event" I've been invited to on Facebook (lol)! I don't normally attend the games, but I'll guess I'll have to since it will be *SOOOOOO* momentous! :p

Wonderful1908 02-20-2007 11:50 PM

Why is all I can still come up with:confused:

Me too and I was really confused. I don't know about this one at all.

SKEEphistAKAte 02-21-2007 09:13 PM

Just saw another preview, she is a sex addict.

SummerChild 03-01-2007 11:58 AM

I'm excited to see it. It looks very intriguing and I can't to see more of Samuel L. Jackson with his southern accent Bible-toting self in the movie.

Just checked Fandango, soror. It will be playing...at BOTH theaters (usually movies like this just play at Tinseltown in West Monroe). This is an opportunity I MUST seize!!!

James 03-02-2007 01:09 AM

Ahh . . . Whats the target audience? Men that would want a sex addict captive in their homes?

Oh wait . . . thats a pretty big demographic . . .;)

ETA: Isn't he (Jackson) in amazing shape for almost 60?

Every time I see the title of this movie, I have to sing it to the tune of Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden.

Sistermadly 03-02-2007 11:46 AM

There's a really interesting interview with the director (who also directed Hustle & Flow) on the Salon.com website. It certainly made me see the movie through new eyes. I'll probably see it tonight or tomorrow.

Munchkin03 03-02-2007 11:59 AM

I am so excited about this movie it's not even funny.

neosoul 03-02-2007 12:43 PM

I love Samuel L. Jackson! I can't wait to see what one liners I can coin off this movie!

I have to agree..I went and saw the movie a couple of weeks ago and loved it. I wasn't thrilled with JT's acting, but Ricci and Jackson definitely played their roles. I admit that the trailors/previews were attention grabbing therefore creating a buzz so that people came out to the theatres.

This is the same director who brought us "Hustle & Flow," and he is basically trying to bring the history of music in the South to the big screen...this movie has a lot of Blues influence throughout it...hence the name of the movie is an old Blues song.

Great film and glad to see Singleton financially back it...
