Super Bowl XLI-This Sunday

Just some random thoughts to start this thread:
After doing my weekly food shopping this afternoon, I now believe the reports that say that Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest feasting day in the US. After Thanksgiving. And from what I saw at just one market, it can not be by much.

And while I am sure that Monday or Tuesday there will be updates, here are the the warm-up Op-Ed cartoons from around the nation:

Going to a couple Superbowl parties.

Eating dinner before the first party to avoid eating "Superbowl food."

texas*princess 02-03-2007 09:02 PM

go bears!

valkyrie 02-03-2007 09:18 PM

LOL we're going to a party, but I hope they don't expect me to be social, unless "social" includes yelling at the TV. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!

The bar I used to work at isn't usually open during the day, but the owner's opening especially for the regulars. The kitchen will be open, but we'll all be bringing food as well -- good food, not Superbowl food.

The best part? Because the owner couldn't throw a Christmas party for his regulars last year like he always does -- tomorrow will be "Ohana Day". All drinks are on the house. Needless to say, tomorrow's by invite only. :)

I'm going to my Jaycee chapter's Super Bowl party. I'll be wearing my lucky Bears sweatshirt.

I haven't been this excited about the Super Bowl since Super Bowl XX! :D

kansas13 02-04-2007 12:21 PM

Every year we have a Super Bowl party, so we have about 30 people coming over. We will be having the normal Super Bowl food, but probably won't be concentrating on that as much as the game.

It is freezing here in Chicago (right now its -2, but with the wind chill it feels like -24), but on the news they say there are still going to be people tailgating at Solider Field!! Now I am a Bears fan, but not that crazy. Anybody tailgating in the freezing cold here in Chi-town? GO BEARS!!!!

wrigley 02-04-2007 12:52 PM

First stop is to my favorite shop's annual Super Bowl sale. Then it's off to a Super Bowl party.

GO BEARS!!!!

SydneyK 02-04-2007 04:33 PM

Since no one else has said it yet in this thread, I have to say GO COLTS! As a Tennessee football fan, I have to cheer for the Colts simply because of Manning.

That said, I just finished prepping the dip I'm taking to the party I'm attending. I like SuperBowl food... isn't that awful!?! (I'm sure I won't be the only woman there who brings her own moist towelettes to deal with the "wing fingers" that accompany any decent Super Bowl party!)

Nikki_DZ 02-04-2007 06:33 PM

I'm rocking my Joseph Addai jersey. GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're having some people over to watch the game. I didn't want to go anywhere b/c I like the idea that if the pressure gets to be too much, I can get up, do something else, and come back ;).

Munchkin03 02-04-2007 07:08 PM

Watching it at home. Go Bears!

I've never seen so many dudes at the grocery store alone, LOL.

Billy Joel must be on the sauce again... that was terrible. He didn't hit half the notes and it sounded (to me, at least) like he slurred some of the words. My ears hurt.

cutie_cat_4ever 02-04-2007 07:22 PM

Man, Chicago is crazy here :D everyone is like wearing a Bears jersey (including me) My bf is disappointed today he couldn't find a Urlacher (54) jersey :( (I was lucky I got mines two days ago :) )

And this has been on the radio tons of times:

COLTS

C- Count
O- On
L - Losing
T - The
S - Superbowl

BEARS

B - Beating
E - Everyone's
A - A$$es
R - Repeatedly
S - Sucker

(though that was a bit far fetched I admit :p )

epchick 02-04-2007 08:05 PM

Ok, so far this game is pretty crazy.

Fumble on the Bears, with the Colts getting the ball.....and then right on the next play the Colts fumble the ball and the Bears pick it up!

Crazy sheeet i swear!! lol

I agree. My boyfriend, who knows nothing about pop culture, asked me if he was really a singer. LOL

I know right? I had to cover my eyes a few times, that's just way too many fumbles right there...I'm a little scared for the bears now :( but there's hope!

The only ones my friends and I actually laughed outloud at were the Snickers one, and the change from the fist bump to the slaps.

Ditto

shinerbock 02-05-2007 12:43 AM

I thought the whole thing sucked overall. The game was rather dull, although I'm glad for Manning, Dungy and the Colts...the rain diminished the play, the coverage sucked (I hate CBS), and the commercials were bland. Prince was alright at halftime, but overall it was a rather lame Super Bowl, I thought.

Drolefille 02-05-2007 01:10 AM

Chicago being the mob town that it is I expect Rex Grossman to have a hit out on him before midnight.

I agree about the commercials, although the Blockbuster one with the rabbit clicking the mouse made me giggle and I liked the Bud Light hitchiker and Rock Paper Scissors one too. I just wasn't impressed overall.

Kevlar281 02-05-2007 01:46 AM

I liked the one with the heart that gets kidnapped by the various heart diseases and then he is subsequently beat-up in a back alley.

macallan25 02-05-2007 02:41 AM

Thanks for losing me 400$ Rex Grossman.............you're the same little bitch you were at Florida. GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TotallyWicked 02-05-2007 03:45 AM

Grossman..ADIOS DUDE..you're in for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, my family actually cried when the Colts won...it did hurt especially since these folks were raised on the Bears

though I will say Prince killed the halftime show!

xo_kathy 02-05-2007 01:29 PM

Since I work at MasterCard, I kept thinking, I'm sure our Marketing dept and ad agency have already worked out the next commercial :
Winning the Superbowl - Priceless. :p

I was very happy for the Colts and Peyton, but I could have done with out the "preaching" by the owner and Dungy during the trophy acceptance. Seriously, God has more important things to worry about than the Superbowl...

Billy Joel was horrendous.
Prince was awesome.
The ads were pretty lame.
My favorites were the CareerBuilder ones.

Was it just me or did the owner of the Colts seem pretty wasted when he was up there excepting the Lombardi trophy?

I think my husband was going to have a heart attack. We had about 30 people over and I got balloons and donned the whole house in orange and blue.

After the first half my husband kept saying "Rex Grossman MVP...for the Colts!!" I heard they are now selling Colts jersey's that have Grossman on the back of them. Poor Rex!! :(
