New VST Structure

Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity is proud to introduce the new structure of the Volunteer Service Team. The Fraternity is excited to provide some of its most dedicated sisters-its volunteers--with this progressive new approach to the volunteer system.

Go to www.alphagammadelta.org for more info.
********************
GTau goes from Area F, Mid-South 1 to Area I, Province 36. We're teamed with Ga Tech and Mercer colleigate chapters and Columbus/Phenix City Alumnae Chapter (GA).

Most of the groups look fairly understandable but I'm amused with how Area I, Province 35 got some Ga collegiate/alumnae chapters and Ft. Lauderdale & Sarasota Alumnae Clubs. Interesting road trip, lol. Must be because we have so many alumnae chapters/clubs in Fla.

QUESTIONS....you KNOW I have them, lol.

When does this actually go into effect..now or July 1st? So for now we continue to send our EC reports to the current Area Coordinator and PDC?

I see that there is a VST application link so the chapters/clubs will have to wait for a few months to see who are their VST contacts?

I got the great VST video via email - can someone here tell me if it went to collegiate presidents/CAs, alumnae chapter/club presidents, VST, etc. or any Alpha Gam with a valid email (to spread the word). Just wondering so I don't have to re-send to everyone I know, lol.

I know it takes A LOT of time and dedication to serve on VST, IC, etc. THANK Y'ALL!:)

Interesting road trip, lol. Must be because we have so many alumnae chapters/clubs in Fla. Sometimes this happened also because an alumnae chapter/club had adopted a chapter in that province and, since the idea is a community of alumnae and collegians working together, it made more sense for them to be in the same province/area with the same VST working with them. You may note, there is a Province Director, not a PDC and PDA, but one PD for all of those chapters.

QUESTIONS....you KNOW I have them, lol.

When does this actually go into effect..now or July 1st? So for now we continue to send our EC reports to the current Area Coordinator and PDC?Continue sending your reports to the current people for the rest of the school year

I see that there is a VST application link so the chapters/clubs will have to wait for a few months to see who are their VST contacts?Yes, VST appointments are two year appointments and we have to reapply every two years, so you never *really* knew who it would be for the next biennium. I strongly encourage anybody interested to apply although, of course, there are no guarantees

I got the great VST video via email - can someone here tell me if it went to collegiate presidents/CAs, alumnae chapter/club presidents, VST, etc. or any Alpha Gam with a valid email (to spread the word). I was lucky enough to be involved with some of the planning for this new structure. I think it is THE BEST change that the Fraternity has implemented since I've been Initiated. I'm so excited about it and can't wait to see it in action! Additionally, this change is why it will be so important for VST and CAs to attend the training at Duquesne in June. This IC is so progressive and I love them to pieces.

AGDLynn 01-30-2007 11:30 PM

I was over at the past GTau prez's house tonight and she mentioned that she got it and LOVED IT!

We didn't know if it went to everyone so she's sending it to the new CP.

GTau has been adopted by Sarasota so I guess we have to share them, lol.

They've been WONDERFUL!!:D

greeklawgirl 01-30-2007 11:41 PM

I'm quite excited about this as well! I love that the focus is on action at the local level, and that we are pairing alumnae and collegiate chapters into entire provinces instead of bifurcating them. We are all Alpha Gamma Deltas and we should be working as one whole team!

In other news, if I am lucky enough to be reselected to serve on the VST, I wonder where on earth I will end up serving. lol :p

AGDLynn 01-31-2007 06:30 AM

Maybe you'll get GTau!:)

Volunteer Training Event June 28-July 1 Pittsburgh

I need to know the info fast so Deanna was nice enough to email me.

Preliminary information will be mailed in the next few weeks and registration materials will be mailed in mid-April. There is no registration fee to attend. You will be responsible for travel costs and any incidentals during your stay. Sleeping accommodations (double occupancy), meals and materials will be provided at no cost. On the collegiate level, I think it is limited to Chapter/Finance/Recruitment Advisors.

BTW, Airtran is having a super web special.

I have a credit on AirTran from the trip to Florida I couldn't take last summer while my mom was in the hospital. I guess that timeline means that VST appointments will happen by mid-April?!? Time will tell!

susan314 03-07-2007 09:56 AM

I think I might just end up driving to Pittsburgh - Toledo to Pittsburgh really isn't a bad drive at all. (Less than 4 hours, I believe.)

I figure I wouldn't really save any time flying, by the time you factor in driving to/from the airport, waiting for baggage, flight time, etc. :)

GtownGirl98 03-07-2007 10:59 AM

I'm going to drive it also. It is only 6 or so hours from here... I think. I have to mapquest it to make sure.

greeklawgirl 03-07-2007 01:56 PM

Ack, I'm glad I saw this. I need to start looking for tickets pronto.

AGDee 03-21-2007 08:40 PM

So yeah, I got a phone call and I will be at the VLC in PA this summer. I have a new area to coordinate! I will have the new Area E, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and the two Michigan chapters in the Upper Peninsula.

AGDLynn 03-21-2007 09:25 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I had no doubt!:D

GtownGirl98 03-22-2007 04:47 PM

Congrats. I had heard today that IHQ would be calling everyone over the next week and then they are suppose to post it all online on April 2. I'm hoping that my area and province won't change much... I like my VST people a lot!

AGDLynn 03-22-2007 06:19 PM

Me 2!

I know we'll be getting a new Province Director b/c ours resigned a couple of months ago.

greeklawgirl 03-23-2007 04:59 PM

I received a tentative assignment about 2 weeks ago but I'm keeping mum about it until I see it posted online. Things are always liable to change (but I hope it doesn't because I am really excited about my community)! ;)

Awww...so you won't be having us here in Ohio. I'm hoping that we get someone that I'm familiar with/have a relationship with. We have a great PD-C and PD-A...I've been working a lot with both of them recently (PD-C for CA type stuff, PD-A b/c we're trying to boost involvement in our local alumnae chapter and/or start a JC). I'd be happy to have either one of them over our new area - in some regards, it will be nice to work with one person as a contact point for both collegiate issues and alumnae issues. The only drawback is that I like both of them, so its a shame that I won't be working with at least one of them after the new structure takes effect. :)

AGDee 03-24-2007 02:11 AM

There are pros and cons to having a new area. I've been working with the southern lower Michigan chapters for so long (with Zeta Alpha specifically since the day that I graduated from there) and the others since '93 that I know them really really well and it will be strange to not know everything "Michigan" anymore. On the other hand, what I love about my alumnae club is that I get to go and just be a sister without advising, suggesting, being concerned with the details, etc. It's *my* Alpha Gam time to just socialize and have fun with my sisters. I was afraid that relationship would change if they were in my area. Soooooo, this works out well that way.

There are a lot of awesome VST concentrated in Michigan and Ohio so some of us had to venture elsewhere. I know your PDA, but I don't know your PDC. I think I know who your Area Coordinator will be, but I'm not positive. I didn't want to ask too many questions and figured I'd wait for them to posted on April 2nd.

JPowers155 03-25-2007 04:53 PM

Dee!!! We are losing you????? Ok... I have to breathe now.

At least we'll get to see you in PA this summer. Holy cow. Big changes for us!

mu_agd 03-25-2007 07:41 PM

looks like I'll be heading to Pittsburgh...

Hey! I'll still be LIVING here.. and will still come to IRDs! I still have the UP chapters too... Y'all will be fine without me.. after all, you've only had me for two years as it is. It really is going to be strange to not be in the direct chain for Zeta Alpha since I've been directly involved with them since my Initiation in 1984. But, I think change is good. Time to learn new chapters and new faces. BTW, check your email. I need something from you!

Dee

I believe our PDC just took over in the fall (only a month or two before I became CA) - that's probably why you might not know her yet. :) I know she was the CA at Alpha Lambda/Ohio State. She and I are roughly the same age, so I'm assuming that its probably her first VST position? (She's great though - even if she doesn't end up covering our area, I hope she still ends up on the VST somewhere.)

Speaking of Michigan/Ohio people on the VST - is Therese still on the VST? She was our Chapter Advisor while I was on EC...many years ago. :) We didn't have a whole lot of advisors back then - she and Diana (our Finance Advisor, who had the position forever) are the only 2 that I can recall from my undergrad days. At one point, we had a bunch of younger alumnae come back to be advisors, but that only lasted a semester or so.

Yes, Therese is currently the Recruitment Consultant for Great Lakes 2 (Ontario, Buffalo and the three southern Michigan chapters)! She spent a long time on the Collegiate Programming team. She was also the CA at Alpha Pi when I first became a CA. She is one of the many VST in Michigan that I think of as the "Leslie" VST, because Leslie W. was so dedicated and inspirational to us that we wanted to stay involved. She was our PDC when I was a new member/collegian and then was the PDC when I was first a CA at Zeta Alpha. She was probably an "Area Supervisor" or the DCO when you were at Chi. I remember thinking "I want to be a Leslie someday".

I remember your FA too, because Chi was under me when I was on the Finance Team and working with 13-South (before the changes in Provinces in '97). It was one of the chapters I never had to worry about then because the FA had been in place so long she had the finance reporting down to a science.

JPowers155 03-26-2007 08:00 AM

I remember the Leslie W. days! I graduated from ZN in '93 and because CA in '96. I actually "blame" Susan E-P for dragging me into the CA business. And here I am... 11 years later. 9 years are CA, 1.5 as a SDC and my sanity is just starting to return! :)

I think VLC is a great idea and can't wait to see everyone there.

You know, now that I think about it - there is another CA that I remember (Michelle G). Now that I think about it, I'm trying to remember if Therese was our CA before becoming PDC, or if I'm remembering her only as PDC and Michelle was the CA? I was elected to my first term on EC as a freshman, so I was still learning what all the roles were and who was who! I know that Therese was very involved with our chapter and remember meeting her multiple times, so I was thinking at first she was an advisor then jumped up to PD? (The memory gets foggy over the years!)

Our FA was a very dedicated lady - she was also very involved with our House Corp. We had another woman (Janet E) on our House Corp who was very involved - she'd show up to plant flowers, etc. We didn't have a whole lot of alumnae support (meaning a variety of different individuals involved), but the ladies who were there did a lot to try to help us!

I always thought that I would have had more constant involvement since graduating. (I did participate a little - a semester as an advisor, which I had to give up b/c the following school year I became housemother while taking some grad classes. :) Then I started off as secretary for our alumnae group, but then I ended up moving to Ohio.) But I always thought I would be one of the "super involved" people too - the "Leslie W" type person you're mentioning, I suppose. (I am fairly certain that she was either our Area Supervisor or involved somehow with Chi while I was on EC - the name sounds very familiar. If I'm thinking of the same person, she'd be Leslie R.W., correct?)

I think that it was so heartbreaking/emotionally draining for many of us when Chi closed, that I needed to take a breather from holding an office or a leadership role. (Especially since I became pregnant with my first child right around that same time - and then became pregnant with my second child while the first was only 5 months old. :o Had my hands full for awhile. )

But, now they are 3 and 2, and its much easier now to add in some Alpha Gam responsibilities than it was while trying to juggle 2 infants. :) Actually, they love going over to the chapter house with me - at Christmas time, they made cut out ornaments from dough with the girls (while I reviewed and signed some reports), etc. Its fun for them to get a bunch of attention from the girls when we drop by.

(At least I'm only 33 - I still have time to try to squeeze in a few of the Honors despite having had a break in service earlier ;) )

AGDLynn 03-26-2007 06:42 PM

Well I posted this in the wrong thread and had to delete it , lol.

Our Rec. Consultant (Kalina) is moving to Dallas to work for Channel 4. Bummer but I know she's looking forward to it.

Hope to see her in SA next summer if I get to go.

AGDee 03-26-2007 10:22 PM

Susan: Therese was living in East Lansing and working at MSU for a time period and I know she had a special role with Chi but I don't know exactly what it was. I was on Finance then and had a limited view of the whole operations for chapters. And yes, it was Leslie R. W.

Lynn: I love Kalina! I spent half the Foundation Reception at the last Convention talking to her. I wish I had half her energy! She was hilarious when she was on the Courtesy Resolutions Committee for the Centennial Convention too.

Kalina is great...we traipsed all over downtown Chicago together looking for supplies for the Recruitment Resource Room. I'll never forget the afternoon we almost died in a cab with the CRAZIEST driver I've ever seen (and I hail from NYC, I know me some crazy cab drivers). Kalina and I each had one hand holding each other and the other hand covering our eyes! :p

I think it is kind of random Hawaii, Idaho and Montana are together, and even though Wazzu is ten minutes away, they are in A2, and we're A3.

If you're coming to Wazzu or to see us at Idaho, give a holler and I'll take you to the awesome restaurant that has huckleberry zuchinni bread or maybe even pick you up at the airport in Spokane. Two of the Leadership Consultants have already had the exciting experience of riding in my car through the country side passing wheatfield after wheatfield.

susan314 03-29-2007 02:15 AM

After taking a closer look at the breakdown of how the Ohio groups are split up, I have a feeling who our province director will be. Just a hunch based on geography, since Ohio now seems to be split into Northern (Cleveland/Toledo) and Southern (from Columbus south) parts. Guess I will find out for sure in a few days. :) The assignments will be posted on the website on April 2nd, correct?

I think that this will be a very positive change and am excited about it, but I'll still be a little sad at the same time - you get to know certain individuals through your time working with them, and now you're likely to have at least some of the individuals change. (I know, I know...change is a good thing, and its an opportunity to build relationships with new sisters. But if you have to give someone up that you've enjoyed working with, its still a little sad too. :) )

AGDee 04-01-2007 11:08 PM

Stuff is posted. Hard to find, but posted!

AGDLynn 04-02-2007 07:00 AM

I couldn't find it and don't have time to look this morning. I looked under the VST Contacts but it looked like that page hadn't been updated because it still had the old title and province names.

Wish they would put a link on the Welcome To Member Services page.

mu_agd 04-02-2007 11:06 AM

Did they pull it? Maria and I found it last night, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

AGDee 04-02-2007 02:19 PM

It's not there anymore...

It now says it will be posted later this week because they need to make more confirmation calls.

susan314 04-04-2007 09:55 AM

Our current PDC sent out an e-mail to everyone in our province - looks like it came out between the time that the info was posted and then removed. :)

So, I know that she will no longer be over our group in the new province structure (and what province she will be over now), but I don't know who our new VST member will be. (I have a suspicion, since my guess before was that our PDC would end up with the southern half of Ohio and our PDA would end up with the northern half. But, I will have to wait until the info is reposted before I find out for sure...)

mu_agd 04-05-2007 12:15 PM

I need to stop checking to see if they've posted any new information. It's getting to be borderline obsessive!

mu_agd 04-11-2007 05:32 PM

Double posting to say that the VST appointments are now up!

GtownGirl98 04-11-2007 06:18 PM

Mu_agd, you beat me to it. I found the list at about 4:00 but didn't think to post till I got home.

AGDLynn 04-11-2007 08:26 PM

Wow, it's kinda like the Columbus method - seek and you will find who you are looking for, lol.

GTau has all new people except for our HAS. Out of the 7 positions, I know 6 of them. Our new PD lives in Fla; everyone else lives in Ga. We have a new Area Coordinator; hate to lose our past one, but this one is great, too!

Maybe they can help me with the CA search.;)

Just noticed....they don't have the Risk Management Specialists listed.

(Yea to our GC VSTers!)
