Largest residence for each GLO

I was wondering where were the largest houses for each GLO that maintains student housing. Like which campus had the actual largest residence for a given GLO. Is there a place that keeps such statistics?

FSUZeta 01-29-2007 10:29 PM

scandia, i believe that the zta chapter house which has the largest capacity is our indiana university chapter. i believe they can house 110 women.

Firehouse 01-29-2007 11:08 PM

The greek houses with the largest capacities would be found in the mid-west. Specifically: Purdue, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, maybe Indiana. There are houses in Washington (state) that have a capacity of 100+. Most of those schools cited have capacities of 80+. Some house more than 100.

I saw pictures of the tri-delt house at Purdue. It's enormous!

33girl 01-30-2007 11:24 AM

ASA's biggest house is at Emporia State. (Not the apple, the picture below it, duh.)

Elephant Walk 01-30-2007 02:01 PM

Kappa Sigma Xi Chapter at the University of Arkansas.

KSUViolet06 01-30-2007 03:22 PM

I believe Tri Sigma's largest capacity chapter house is at UNC-Chapel Hill (Delta Delta chapter).

Alpha Sig Scott 01-30-2007 03:37 PM

I'll say Eta Chaper of Alpha Sigma Phi at the University of Illinois.

PeppyGPhiB 01-30-2007 04:21 PM

I have no idea where the largest Gamma Phi chapter house is. Anyone...?

CutiePie2000 01-30-2007 04:57 PM

I thinking USC or Ole Miss for dear old Delta G.

No clue about the largest Alpha Gam house either.

I can name chapters with the greatest amount of members, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have the largest house. The Gamma Delta Chapter at Auburn is enormous, but they don't have their own house since all women's sororities are housed in residence halls.

WOW, Emporia State, awesome! The New LXA House at my chapter only holds 24 in the same Conference as ESU!

Most schools this size do not have houses this big!

Ah, Auburn, LXA built a new house there and is something else in size.:D

William-Jewell and Druery are extemely nice! Both Mo. Chapters!

How do they afford them?:(

It definitely is! The Delta Delta Delta chapter at Purdue (not too far down the road from the Gamma Phi Beta residence) can house 100 women. Their house was built in 1988 during their centennial year - ah, the things that one remembers from recruitment! It's a beautiful house on the inside, too.

Purdue's Delta Zeta chapter has a gorgeous house as well!

Stef the Pef 01-30-2007 06:08 PM

These came up on the old thread linked at the bottom:

Huge three-building FSU Phi Delta Theta complex: http://www.fsuphidelt.org/index.asp?...house.asp#mar2

Gigantic one-house FSU Pike house: http://www.fsupikes.com/

And in the works--one gorgeous Phi Psi house at UT: http://www.utphipsi.com/

The first two look pretty plain, IMHO, but the Phi Psi house looks awesome, especially if they're saving a lot of the old house's architectural features (wood paneling, stained glass, etc.) to go into the new house. Does anyone at UT know if they've got it finished yet? The plans are beautiful!

macallan25 01-30-2007 06:20 PM

Yeah, Phi Psi down here will be incredible if they every build it. Same style as our house, South Texas Hill Country look.......very bad ass.

Stef the Pef 01-30-2007 07:00 PM

That's what I loved about that house's plans--it's more like a house. The FSU pair look like some of the boring newer dorms here at Baylor. Nothing special.

PeppyGPhiB 01-30-2007 09:37 PM

I doubt it's the largest, but it's still large: the Fiji house at Univ. of Washington is big, beautiful and yet kinda mysterious and creepy from the outside. It's always dark when I drive by. http://uwgreeks.com/ifc/profiles/PhiGammaDelta.php The Sigma Chi house at UW is pretty big too.

My sister-in-law was an AXiD at Purdue. Unforunately, they got initiated and then the chapter shut down so they all had to go alum. Then they reopened the next year with all new girls. I remember her saying their house was beautiful. I need to go check it out on the website (if there are pictures).

Yeah, I'm thinking Indiana may take it with their house. Your chapter houses are gorgeous (except for Georgia Tech, but it's a tech school so I'm not surprised.).

Sister Havana 01-31-2007 03:28 AM

It wouldn't surprise me if IU had the largest houses for many GLOs. The IU houses are ginormous! Almost all the sororities have well over 100 members, with most living in the house.

PeppyGPhiB 01-31-2007 09:40 PM

The houses at U. Illinois look huge, as well. http://www.illiniphc.com/page.php?page_id=1362

aphidarlin 01-31-2007 10:17 PM

I've heard the largest Alpha Phi house is at the University of Oklahoma; which is why it was so important to recolonize there...since we own property...Does anyone know if that's true? I didn't go to a school with a Greek Row...so I definitely have trouble relating to the "house" experience.

Stef the Pef 02-01-2007 06:10 AM

The Alpha Xi house at Indiana is HUGE. HUGE HUGE HUGE.

Love the catwalk across the front, too! That's a cool feature.

Most of the houses at U of I are not that big. Well, they're big, but they don't necessarily sleep as many as other schools. For example, the AOII house slept 66. The chapter was huge, but most members only lived in the house for 1 or 2 years. The AOII house seemed about the same size as most of the other NPCs on campus. I would guess most houses slept in the 60-80 range. The sorority houses at Oklahoma are much bigger than Illinois (and consequently, most members are required to live in house for 3 years.) I would guess that the new AOII house at Indiana would be our largest house, but we're building a doozie at Arkansas.

banditone 02-02-2007 03:00 PM

I've always thought this was the pimpest Snake (ΣN) house. Ole Miss - I think they have like 180 members (site says 193, but it may be a little old).

Sorry to bump, but I believe this is true. They have a HUGE house that was difficult to afford before. But the new chapter is doing very well!

Also, I believe that OU might have the largest Gamma Phi chapter...

I have also heard this to be true, and I am at OU, but I've also heard this to be the largest greek house in the US, if not the world. All of the houses in "greek row" are huge here (check out a google image of houses just to SW of main campus) Greek life is a big deal here!

http://studentlife.ou.edu/content/view/88/ This is the model view since they're about halfway finished with the changes to the front of the house. (Re-model since it hasn't been used in a few years)

Apparently the re-colinization is going well, they're part of formal rush this year.

I believe that is a true statement.

Our house at the UW houses over 100 but it's also "technically" two houses (the main house and the annex that's connected by a skybridge).
