Connie Chung is Greek?

I have a high school teacher (an AOII alum) who claims that Connie Chung rushed at Maryland and was initiated at some NPC group (not AOII). Can anyone confirm this? Since Connie went to school in the 60s, some groups would still have had exclusionary clauses, though not all.

Connie Chung interview with Vince Vaughn re: movie, "Old School"

CHUNG: The whole thing is a hit.

So, did you ever belong to a fraternity when you were a kid?

VAUGHN: No, I never did. I only went to college, Connie -- I went to a community college for two weeks in Illinois, CLC, College of Lake County. We called it college of last chance.

(LAUGHTER)

VAUGHN: I went there for two weeks and I dropped out. And then when I moved to L.A., my parents were like, you should really take some classes and have something to fall back on. And I was there two weeks at Santa Monica Junior College. And I got an audition the same day I had a test and I never went back to that.

But if I was in college, I don't think I personally would have been in a fraternity.

CHUNG: Right. I wouldn't belong to a sorority either. I might belong to a fraternity. Bunch of dudes around, not so bad.

VAUGHN: You live in the fast lane, Connie. I can't stop that.

Wow Connie you are funny:rolleyes:

Of course she married Muary P!

smiley21 01-19-2007 08:49 PM

Yeah, everytime I see a paternity test episode of Maury (which is almost everytime I turn it on), I just think "poor poor Connie"

Oh goodness! I know that college. When I went to high school in Illinois, we joked about that school.

When I was at Maryland I remember hearing about both Connie Chung and Goldie Hawn (who only attended for a short while). I remember hearing about one of them pledging but not going through with it. I wish I could remember which one. Anyway, I think if either had been an initiated member at UMD I would have remembered that.

...for what it's worth.

cheerfulgreek 01-20-2007 04:20 AM

I had no idea Connie was greek.

melsigkap 01-20-2007 08:11 AM

weird, I took classes there over the summer so I can get ahead! and it's true, everyone i know calls it college of last chance too

I think you misread above. She says she did not belong.

aggieAXO 01-22-2007 02:41 PM

I believe Goldie pledged AXO but was not initiated.

CZAXOTerp 03-09-2007 06:27 PM

I went to U of Md, and would have known is Goldie Hawn had pledge AXO- she did not.
I know that AXO did not have exclusionary clauses at that time because my friend and sister's mom was an AXO in the mid-late 60's and they are Japanese-American.

I always heard that Connie Chung had been in Tri-delt- but it was never really confirmed.

Connie has become a much more involved Maryland alum in the last few years and I was introduced to her about a year ago- but didn't think to ask if she had been in a chapter or not.

aggieAXO 03-09-2007 08:49 PM

RE Goldie Hawn

From what I have heard she pledged the Beta Pi chapter at Washington College but was not initiated

deadbear80 03-10-2007 12:15 AM

RE: Goldie Hawn

I'm pretty sure Goldie went to American University in DC. I've heard her say in numerous interviews on TV that she went there but didn't graduate. Wikipedia confirms that statement (although I KNOW Wikipedia is not always correct--don't flame please!).

aggieAXO 03-10-2007 01:00 PM

Yea thinking about this morning it was the Beta Rho chapter (American) not the Beta Pi one.

AnatraAmore 03-10-2007 01:48 PM

According to both of the biographies I saw, she went to U-Maryland...

Here's one of them: http://www.bookrags.com/biography/connie-chung/

Agreed. Connie Chung went to Maryland, but was not Greek.

(The above posters are now debating Goldie Hawn!)

Apparently, Connie Chung is really embarrassed to have gone to Maryland! :(

Interesting, since that should be so low on her list of things to be embarrassed about.

This is no longer true. There is a clip of here from the David Letterman show where he asked here where she went to school and she sort of mock-whispered Maryland. I am sure that this is where people got this idea and while I have never heard her explain it, she seems to have come around.

Since then I believe that she was approached by the University and has since become an involved and pround alum. She attends events both here in NYC and goes to College Park for major events as well, I think she was inducted into our Alumni Hall of Fame and I know she goes to the major gala every year, I believe she was emcee of it a few years back.

As I said in my previous post I had the pleasure of meeting her at a Maryland Alumni event last year, she was a panel moderator for a large event here in NYC and was great. She looks FANTASTIC in person for a woman of her age.

These links should definitely prove her devotion to Md- we love her and she loves us right back!

I believe that the co-chair title is the result of 500K donation. I know that she and Maury have also established a chair in the college of journalism in honor of his father. They have done an amazing job of giving back.

AOE2AlphaPhi 04-08-2007 09:58 PM

Connie and Maury are friends with my grandmother, so I could find out for sure and let you know!

Football Fan 04-08-2007 11:03 PM

As far as I know Connie Chung is not a Tri-Delta.

Well, there have been 23 posts so apparently someone cares. Just because you don't care doesn't mean it isn't a topic worthy of discussion.

There are plenty of other threads to read, so why don't you just move along?

I do believe you were the one coming in and making a completely unnecessary comment, not Leslie Anne. She had already commented about how she went to Maryland etc. etc. -if I'm not mistaken that counts for at least more than your "contribution." If you don't care then just stay quiet and don't bother commenting. It's comments like yours that start nasty, off-topic, pointless rants.

If you don't care for the shit I say, just put me on ignore.

Same goes for the rest of you.

Again, if I think a thread is lame, I'll say so. Always have. Lotsa people comment on how certain threads are lame.

You could have taken your own advice and stay quiet after my post, you know.

Nasty, off-topic, pointless rants are what makes GC un-boring.

Kudos to you and Leslie Anne for contributing to the nasty, off-topic, pointless rants. :)

Hey, I was just sticking up for an (almost) sister -what's your excuse?

AlphaFrog 04-09-2007 11:48 AM

She's OTW - she doesn't need an excuse.

Touche, and I have to agree, much better movie. I really wasn't trying to be snotty to you in that last comment, I just watched the movie last night and couldn't help myself.

Me neither. I don't really care either way about this thread, I just wanted an excuse to use that quote...;)
