Survivor - Fiji

The new cast has been revealed. Let's discuss!

One of the contestants, Rita Verreos, is the older sister of Nick Verreos, who was on Project Runway 2.

Greeks in the cast: Erica is an AKA. Mookie is a Pike. Those are the only two with an affiliation listed.

Mmm...Edgardo.

Aside from Cook Islands, I haven't watched Survivior recently. Are there usually this many contestants?

I'm surprised they went along with filming on Fiji. The government's been in political turmoil for quite some time now. Absolutely beautiful place to visit (I think it's more beautiful there than where I'm at!), but really scary when the natives go batshit.

I so agree with you!
Survivor started off with 16 people, back in the "olden days". I think now, they're increasing the numbers (19), but then the "season" is still the same length of 39 days, because they do things like a double-elimination and stuff like that. By increasing the number, I guess it could be argued that it gets tougher to "win"..i.e. you have a 1 in 19 shot at it, rather than a 1 in 16 shot.

They were filming when the coup occurred and the militia that took over told them they'd leave them alone and make sure they were kept safe. I read something about it a month or two ago, probably on alt.tv.survivor

Lady Pi Phi 01-13-2007 09:17 AM

Why is this still on the air?????

I watched last season, after having only watched the first and bits of all the seasons, because I thought it was going to be controversial, and entertaining. Instead it was dull and uninteresting.

I think after 13, 14 seasons, it's time they hang up the skates.

kddani 01-13-2007 10:11 AM

This cast is even more diverse that the last cast. I'm guessing maybe they cast them at the same time, especially to get it going and on the air so quickly.
There's a large number of contestants that were born outside the U.S, as well. Last season was the first season i'd watched in quite awhile. I like some episodes, others bore me to death

From what I heard in interviews, was a bit close for them. Several members of support staff were flown out, and food was hard to get for both support staff and "cast".

BetteDavisEyes 01-13-2007 12:42 PM

I'm bored of the Survivor shows already. I usually tune in to the first few but get bored of them so quickly. This show needs to take a break for a while but if the ratings are still good, then I'm sure it will be on for a long time to come.

Honestly, and maybe it's because the bio photos were arranged that way, but I really thought that producers were going to separate them by race again.

I also kept up with last season after skipping much of Survivor after All-Stars. I thought I was the only one, but found out many others did the exact same thing too. Producers did a few things different last season, and hopefully they'll do the same to keep viewers interested this time around.

Same with me.

Hell, try the Indian ocean, or off the coast of Africa somewhere...anything new. Try somewhere that's not an island. Australian Outback is airing here in repeats, and it was really interesting (and a lot longer than 39 days I think...)

I think they should do Survivor: Tuktoyaktuk. They'll have to battle the cold and hunt and ice fish to survive. Or, they should do Survivor: Churchill, manitoba, where they have to outwit the polar bears.

Now that would be interesting.

stagebear 01-14-2007 01:19 AM

i love survivor, but i'm getting sick of water challenges.

Interesting indeed, but then everybody knows that good TV means scantily clad under-nourished contestants!

Apparently!

Survivor was a good show when it first started, but then it just became so repetitive. I'll probably watch the new season because Mr. Pi Phi likes it, I just hope they change it up a little.

LeslieAGD 01-15-2007 05:31 PM

How about Survivor: Alaska? That would be interesting.

Last season was the first time I had watched Survivor since season 2.
I'll give the new season a try for a few episodes and see how it goes.

Love the sound of it! But it's not practical and would bring a whole mess of torubles with it. But definitely maybe some place colder or where it'd snow sometime. They'd HAVE to give them more stuff then or something.

CutiePie2000 03-31-2007 08:13 PM

That was awesome when Yau-Man made that fake immunity idol, put "I.I." on it and buried it back on the ground. I hope that someone really does fall for it...that would be hilarious, not to mention it would make for good TV viewing...LOL.

I think that was the coolest thing I've seen a survivor do in years.

Talk about outwitting the other players! He may look weak, but mentally, I think he is far ahead of everyone else.

Sure glad Rocky is gone. Don't miss him for a minute.

But in 20/20 hindsight, he should have done it after finding the real one.

And we still have the second 'real' one still out there.....

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this to happen!

I think it'd be even funnier if at some point, Earl and Yau-Man have BOTH of the real idols :)

He did do it hafter finding the real one. That's why it's so it great. :D

IIRC-he did it later. While there were at least two other team members in camp sleeping he dug the hole again.

He did not replace it when he was alone.

That would be awesome. If they could pull it off, they should just boogie over to the other camp and dig up that one too. They have the tools for it (pick-ax, etc.)

LeslieAGD 04-03-2007 04:59 PM

Cutie, they missed their opportunity when the other team was at their reward lunch at the arcade!

GAH!!! You are so right. They should have gone for it!!! Can you imagine?? That would have been freaking awesome.

CutiePie2000 04-20-2007 12:17 AM

Every week, I heart Yau-Man a lil' more...he is CRAFTY and I like it. That was the greatest tribal council....although I was sad to see Edgardo go, as he is TEH HOTNESS.

Tonight was *almost* as great as the fake idol - but as the time for tribal council kept creeping closer, I kept getting mroe and mroe excited to see the expression on "The Four Horsemen's" faces (sidenote: REAL original, guys  )

LeslieAGD 04-20-2007 06:10 AM

Tribal was hilarious! I love the giant smiles on the guys faces, and then they were wiped clean ...the jury was laughing their tushies off too! I was really sad to see cutie Edgardo go, but such is Survivor.

Boo has turned out to be the come-back kid! I will be interested to see what happens with Dreamz; he's going to be on the outs with Alex and Mookie, and I don't know how much Earl and Yau trust him. Mookie sure screwed himself, giving up the idol and vowing revenge on Cassandra. I do like that the idol will be re-hidden with new clues; that's pretty cool.

SWTXBelle 04-20-2007 09:10 AM

My 17 yr. old daughter is distraught - Edgardo, her eye-candy this go-round is gone. Not to mention his sexy accent . . . I did comfort her with the thought that a cleaned-up Edgardo will now be seen at every tribal council.
I'm beginning to hate Dreamz. Mookie has been on my nerves for a while - him and Boo. Cassandra is pretty impressive .
And Yau-Man MUST WIN. He is just too hilarious -let's hear it for old guys!!!

CutiePie2000 04-20-2007 10:52 PM

Dreamz is very SHIFTY and Cassandra was wise to get a "read" on Dreamz, based on his eyes. In other news, I want Yau-Man to cozy up to someone from the Four Horseman and pretend that the other idol hasn't been found yet, only so that someone can dig up the fake idol with "I.I." painted on it, on camera, believe it, and look dumb....ha ha ha ha........

I look forward to seeing Edgardo cleaned up and looking pretty on the jury, but I have to say, the "disappearing smiles" were priceless. Mookie was DUMB to give up the idol. DUH!!!

I have a feeling that Yau Man might finish in "third" because no one would want to go against him in the Final Two (I think he would win based on that). I think he's too popular because he hasn't really double-crossed anyone or p!ssed anyone off just yet.

AGDee 04-20-2007 11:18 PM

I didn't think about it much at the time, but Jeff said that the Idol would be re-hidden and new clues would be at Exile Island. How do they hide a new one with all the people hanging out at the camp?? They won't notice freshly disturbed dirt? I gues sthey dould do it while they are all at a challenge, but it seems like they might notice that an area has been disturbed.

LeslieAGD 04-21-2007 09:04 AM

Dee, maybe they will bury the Idol on Exile Island instead of at camp like they used to do.
Otherwise, the crew can bury it at camp during an endurance challenge that will take a few hours.

Also, did the others see what the Idol looked like when Alex presented it to Jeff?

polarpi 04-21-2007 11:41 AM

i'm pretty sure it was a turtle-shaped "figurine" (for lack of a better word) :p

i figured it'd be hidden on exile island, as well - i'm curious as to whether or not the other castaways (besides those who know Yau-Man has the immunity idol) KNOW that there is a second one

ZTABullwinkle 04-21-2007 05:47 PM

Didn't next week's sneak peek show that the other group knows that Yau-man has the immunity idol?

CutiePie2000 04-21-2007 06:17 PM

What does Yau-Man's (real) immunity idol look like? Is it also a flattened turtle on a string?

I think maybe Alex goes snooping in Yau-Man's bag and discovers it in there, if I remember the "next week on Survivor" scenes accurately.

LeslieAGD 04-21-2007 10:43 PM

Polarpi, I know what the Idol looks like...but I wasn't sure if everyone else (besides Yau, Earl, Mookie, Alex, and Dreamz) know.

Did the commercial show Alex stealing Yau's Idol, or simply seeing that he had it?

KDAngel 04-22-2007 02:54 AM

I think he just saw that Yau had it. I'm totally bummed about that too. I don't know exactly what they plan on doing with that, but I know it won't go well. It is interesting to hear that they're going to bury the other idol again though...

While I know the premise of the show is to "Out" do everyone, if I was on the panel and someone was in the final two because they stole something I just could not vote them.

I agree with the other poster, if someone does have the idol, the production side of show should "guard" it somehow.

It showed him "discovering" it, but it didn't show him stealing it. I guess we'll find out next episode.

If he was SMART, he would steal it and not tell anyone about it. But people can't keep news to themselves for long on SURVIVOR....oy....
