I'm going. It will be my fourth convention (1999, 2003, 2005, and now 2007) and I can even drive this time!!! Yea! I heard that the program submissions to be a presenter should come out soon. I'm hoping a program of mine will be selected.....*crossing fingers*

flirt5721 01-09-2007 08:25 PM

I am really going to try to go. If I do make it, it will be my second one. 2005 being my first. Really hope I can save the money for it.

amanda6035 01-09-2007 09:32 PM

I'M SO THERE.....I cant' flippin' wait.

what program? Is it one I know?

AZ-AlphaXi 01-11-2007 11:10 AM

I'll be there ... this will be number 15!! (oh my goodness has it really been that many??)

Does anyone think that there'd be interest in a program/session on greekchat and/or internet resources?

AXiDTrish 01-12-2007 12:01 AM

Amanda, I've been developing a few programs. I'm not certain which they will select, if any. Oh, and are you going to Convention? I didn't think you were?

amanda6035 01-12-2007 12:05 AM

I'm planning on it. Just gotta set aside enough money from the wedding planning in order to be able to. I'm not take a "spring break" this year, so hopefully I can save up and go.

AXi1257 01-12-2007 08:38 AM

I want to be more involved with the 2 chapters in my area. I would love to go to Convention since I never have been there. I've been an alum for 12 years now... would it be helpful/useful for me to go!?!?!

amanda6035 01-12-2007 08:58 AM

I cannot even explain how convention 2005 affected me. How after only having our charter for a year, we got the Order of the Quill. How I got to meet the Woman of Distnction, Mimi Blackburn Drew, who's a retired Rear Admiral of the Navy, who I got my picture with, red face and crying, which is now in my chapter scrapbook (grrr). I participated in the 5K...I think it was for the foundation (maybe it was a philanthropy, I cant remember). I met most of the women who actively participate on this message board because we had a GC meet&greet. AZ-AlphaXi and AXiD670!

Additionally, my twin and I got attacked by a desert beetle and a scorpion. Ahhh..the stories...

I can't wait to go as an alum and go to the professional breakout sessions, etc.

At convention, you get to make connections with the collegiate representatives for the chapters you want to work with. You'll also get to meet and interact with the alumnae who are volunteers in the support structure. There are breakout sessions on collegiate chapter topics, alumnae association topics, and usually professional and personal development. All of which are open to any convention attendee.

All in all a worthwhile experience.

AXiDTrish 01-14-2007 11:04 AM

I am completely in agreement. Convention gives you the professional experience with the sessions, the interaction with sisters, and wonderful opportunities to network among your peers. You also get the ceremonial side, which alumnae don't always realize they miss until they are experiencing it again. Make sure you bring kleenex for the Chapter Eternal session. It will reduce you to tears every time.

LOL....I always have to brush up on my dining skills before convention too! I mean, how many pieces of silverware can you put on a table anyway??? HA!

Oh, this is important.....as a visiting alumnae you are not required to go to every session and meal. You can pick and choose, which can help you save a little money if your budget is tight (Amanda, that might be good to know for you too). I ALWAYS recommend the Opening Banquet, Awards Banquet, and Closing Banquet.

tcsparky 01-19-2007 07:57 PM

I will definitely be there! I can't hardly wait. I had so much fun at the past two Conventions and at volunteer training this summer. There is no word to adequately describe how great being at Convention is, you just have to be there to know how it feels.

hazelle 01-19-2007 09:49 PM

being so close to Xi chapter...Kentucky know we are going to be there in abundance even if the chapter currently is in a box...and not in a house...

damn girls we are going to bond...and get to see the faces behind these wonderful chat names!!

xi love to all of you!!

AlphaXiGirl 01-26-2007 09:02 PM

Me! Me! Me!

I'll be there. Can't wait to see ya'll.

She makes an appearance, after all this time =) What's up, stranger?

AlphaXiGirl 01-27-2007 11:34 PM

I come out of hiding every once in a while. Still getting settled into life in DC - busy as ever... but keeping a close (albeit - via long distance) eye on my favorites. Amanda, I'm very proud of what the chapter has accomplished this year... see, you guys don't need me around at all!

Alpha*Xi*Abby 02-22-2007 07:20 PM

I've never gone and this one is relatively close to me (I'm in Michigan) but as an alum - I really don't have anyone to go with ... but I would like to go... so I'm still pondering.

AXiDTrish 02-22-2007 07:25 PM

Abby,
Don't be afraid of not meeting anyone. There's always a ton of sisters, but FHQ also groups you with your state and your chapter quite often to help build that bond. If you would like, PM me and I will give you my information! There are a few of us coming up from Atlanta that have attended a few Conventions....we'll show you the ropes! You will enjoy it, I promise!
-Trish

amanda6035 02-26-2007 04:01 PM

Can I just say...that I REALLY REALLY hate - that they wait so long to put information up on the website? I want to know the costs NOW. I want to register NOW. I want to be able to make plans NOW. I gotta find out how many of my chapter sisters are going to be able to go, because I have to have roommates and split travel costs, because otherwise, I wont be able to afford to go.

Does anybody know when they will have that info available? Isnt it the first week in April?

AZ-AlphaXi 02-26-2007 04:48 PM

I have been told by our Alum Assoc. Pres. (Tucson Alumnae) that she was told the information would be out on the web site first of March.

But I'm with you ... I want it NOW!! I like to plan really far in advance.

TxGirl 02-27-2007 02:58 AM

I going to try to make it this year - I made four in a row and then had to miss the last one even though it was close. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone since I've been out of the volunteer loop for a while. :)

AZ-AlphaXi 03-01-2007 12:20 PM

just booked my flight ... I'll be coming in on Tuesday!!!

amanda6035 03-02-2007 11:11 AM

WOO HOO!!!! Info's on the website - and apparently the little birdie who told me about the bachelorette girl was right. HAH!

Does anybody know how many girls they are going to allow per room? I know in AZ they only let us have 2 girls per room. I hope they will allow for 4 so that it cuts down on the cost...

AZ-AlphaXi 03-15-2007 05:35 PM

on line registration for convention just activated on the web site.

amanda6035 03-16-2007 11:41 PM

need some advice

So....I'm trying to save money if I can, and I'm thinking I just want to pay for Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday ($360). I would have fun at the events on friday, if I decided to pay for the full package, but part of me would like to have a lazy day where I could just do my own thing.

I'd really like to see FHQ, even though everyone I've ever heard talk about it has said it's not really that spectacular - more of a building and some artifacts, that it's neat, but nothing to be super impressed by. I'd like to do that, but I dont want to pay $150 for the day, if thats the only thing I'm super interested in for that day. What exactly is a panel discussion? and the sisterhood social? I thought 2 years ago we had friday evening free to ourselves, but this year there is a social instead? I dont want to be the only dork who doesnt participate on friday if it's not an off night anyway.....

I'm trying to be frugal. $500 is ALOT of money for a soon to be graduate who doesnt have a job lined up yet. I am SO EXCITED about the awards banquest, the rose banquet, education/professional (???) sessions and the 5K race though. woohoo! I can't wait!

AZ-AlphaXi 03-27-2007 03:58 PM

Ok ... the call for programs has gone out from HQ

http://www.alphaxidelta.org/pdfs/CallforPrograms.pdf

does anyone have any suggestions for programs they'd like to see?

Personal finance. How to invest wisely. etc etc.

I wish Suze Orman was an AZD. I'd love to see her speak....

AZ-AlphaXi 04-12-2007 03:22 PM

Now the hotel registration link is active ... but I have a question .... I tried going thru the hotel registration ... and I'm going to be sharing a room but how do you indicate who you're going to be sharing with? Does only one of you book the room?

I'm very confused .. (so what else is new??)

AZ-AlphaXi 04-12-2007 03:36 PM

I've updated the first post with the list of those who said that they are definitely coming ... let me know if you want me to add you to the list.

AZ-AlphaXi 04-17-2007 01:17 PM

New feature at convention ... there's going to be a silent auction to benefit the foundation ... so even if you can't attend maybe you can donate something to help raise funds for the foundation...

ABSOLUTELY! Yes, please, please, please! Everything is on/about the Internet.

Related, I'm hoping my program gets accepted too -- marketing. If we both get in, let's coordinate!

flirt5721 05-02-2007 05:17 PM

I think it would be good for both Alum and actives to know about GreekChat and other online site.

CraXi Love 05-23-2007 01:46 AM

GOING

i am going...this will be my first...i am a newbie to my chapter so i am really really really excited...i will be coming straight from israel basically (i get back th enight before) so its kinda crazy! very excited!

AZ-AlphaXi 06-08-2007 01:43 PM

Ok Ladies ... we're getting closer to convention...

Anyone up to planning a greek chatters meeting? Its always nice to put faces to names ...

axidalum 06-08-2007 02:07 PM

Convention

I'm in - how do we coordinate this? You can email me at axidalum @ sbcglobal. net (Spaces are just so spammer's don't pick that up). I'm VERY happy to coordiate.
Look forward to seeing you all!

I'm also interested in just general vision setting, brainstorming, esp. in regards to alums.
Thanks!

AXiDTrish 06-09-2007 11:15 AM

It was fun to meet everyone in Arizona....I'm game to meet again!

amanda6035 06-13-2007 04:44 PM

Errrrrm....

I never got a packet of info about convention (and, yes, I paid/registered). You know, the dress code, what to expect, etc. I know I got one when I went 2 years ago as my first time, but I didnt get one this time. Do they only send it to first time attendees? I really could use a refresher of what kinds of clothes are appropriate and when....and what else to expect.

AZ-AlphaXi 06-13-2007 05:41 PM

MMMM ... you're right .. I haven't gotten one either and I've gotten one for every other convention I've been to ... including a form with travel plans to fill out and send back ...

maybe this year its all electronic and the only thing we're getting is the convention update we got on May 15.

AZ-AlphaXi 06-21-2007 12:22 PM

Ok .. have we ever come to a consensus of when we want to meet at convention?

Wed. night before dinner
Wed. night after dinner
Someother time??

If we can decide .. I'll post on the beginning post and add it as an event on the inCircle calendar
