What Do You Miss About ...

What is up Frat. I love you all but I have noticed that there is no action on this page anymore. So here is a topic for everyone (keep it positive):

What do you miss about being a kid ...

I miss:
1. Block Parties. I remember the first song I heard at a block party was Cassanova by Levert. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

2. Summer Vacation http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

3. trick or treating and of course bag snatching.

4. Midnight basketball

5. Sitting on the porch claiming cars (you remember oh you see that Mercedes "that's my car")

6. The monkey bars

7. Jumping rope

8. Being free to explore your world (hassle free that is until your mother caught you doing something you had no business).

I am still such a kid at heart but those things that I can no longer do as an adult would be:
1. Running to Grandma for loose change for that ice cream truck. Then eating that screwball till you get to the little ball of gum.
2. Hopscotch
3. Hang-go-seek (Hide-N-Go-Seek)
4. Catching lightening bugs and pulling off their tails.
5. KICK BALL!!!
6. Going to the corner store with 50 cents and coming back with a bag FULL of candy.
7. Sharing one pair of skates with your cousin 'cuz we didn't have two pairs.
8. Hand games (Rock-n-robin, Ms. Mary Mack)
9. Barbie's and all the 'roles' she played!
10. JACKS

The Negotiator 09-01-2000 11:28 AM

Those were the days weren't they?
How could I forget about kick ball and the ice cream truck? You took me back.

dyhardque 09-02-2000 01:16 AM

What I miss about being a kid....

What I miss about being a kid are:
1. REAL Saturday morning cartoons (Woody Woodpecker and Looney Tunes)
2. Thundercats
3. Field trips
4. Jumping double dutch (I'm kinda rusty, but I think I still have some skills left)
5. Summer camp
6. Being really excited on Christmas morning
7. Wishing I was a grown up already
8. Lunchroom food fights
9. The mean looking lunch lady with the shower cap on her head
10. The snotty nose kid that the whole school would laugh at (although when he grew up, he looked maaaaddd goooodd! :D )
11. Listening to oldies that your parents looooved, and that you hated :p, on the radio
12. Hearing Ahmad sing the song, "Back in the Days" and remembering everything he talked about
13. Class pictures (just to see what everybody was doing when it was taken :D )

That's all I can think of for now. I'll post more if I think of anything.

5. gazelles (those real big glasses)
6. guys wearing shags or gumbies

11. before remote controls, being the only kid around and your only job was to change the tv channels or adjust the hanger

aaahhh the good old days. to think, when i was younger, i couldn't wait to get older. if i knew then, 25% of what i know now...

Jihad1906, I remember these things. I'm in NYC (Queens to be specific) and I know about REAL SNOW! 1996 was the year of the blizzards in NYC! I used to dig in the box to get the prize on Saturday mornings before my sisters woke up to eat any cereal. :D I still like to see the open fire hydrants, even though I'm too old to be runnin' around in them. I usually see them in the Bronx a lot. I used to get in to my parents' bed mainly because it was a lot warmer than my own. My mother was like that too and you're not alone, Jihad. I, too, still watch cartoons. Which ones do you like to watch? :p

Hey Soror, I'm feeling all of those. I first loved to really appreciate the beauty of an adolescent Black female by watching the girls on my block double-dutch. Very cultural and very sexy. MJ was my boy when his nose looked like mine, I don't know who this white dude is.

I feeling all of these too. Reminds me of Philly, except I didn't jump any turnstiles, Pops would have killed me if I got caught.

Block parties were the bomb until knuckleheads started throwing M-80s and make people think it was gunshots. Whole crowd would start running and break up the party.

Don't you mean to say that MJJ is a "WHITE WOMAN???" I know some of you guys out there in GC world will agree with me when I say that Michael Joseph Jackson was born a Black male and he will die a White woman. Talk about creepy looking!

i miss books like the "bearenstein bears," "encycolpedia brown," and "sweet valley twins." what is this harry potter mess that teeters the fine line between fiction and sacrilege?

i miss gold stars and smiley faces on my schoolwork.

i miss jump-rope. man, me and one of my homegirls, if we couldn't find anybody else to play with, would tie the rope to the school zone sign outside my house and jump.

i miss my older sister "pumping" me on her bike. i never rode on the handles, but i still used to beg her all the time to let me ride.

i miss picture day at school because i got to wear my good dress. but, it always seemed like they took my picture after recess, so my head always looked crazy.

i miss cereal with NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE--sugar smacks, cookie crisps, aww hell, just give me a bowl of sugar and a spoon.

i miss my new edition candy girl record. i got older and tried to "scratch" and tore that dang thang up.

i miss riding on the arm rest of my daddy's 1983 navy blue Buick Regal.

and ya'll, this girl in class took me baaaack. she came to class eating a pickle with a peppermint inside. this "other" girl, was like, "why is your pickle juice red," and dang-near died when she told her a piece of candy was in it!! our professor made her throw it away though.
