If You're Still Wearing Silver Tiffany Jewelry - STOP Right This Second
...or risk being banished forever to the ranks of the uncool!
For Immediate Release CONTACT: KillarneyRose GreekChat Silver Tiffany Jewelry Trickles Down to the Unwashed Masses According to the college intern/sorority girl working for KillarneyRose this semester and her fellow intern/sorority girl in another department, wearing items from Tiffany & Co.'s silver line (the "return to Tiffany" pieces, the heart bracelet, the silver Elsa Peretti heart necklace, etc.) is an indisputable sign that you're poser trying too hard. "It's to the point that the cafeteria ladies are wearing them now," said Intern #1, a junior at XXX University and a member of ABC sorority. Small Southeastern College junior Intern #2, a member of XYZ sorority, agrees. "Seriously, nobody I know wears that stuff anymore. Everyone had (Tiffany silver jewelry) my senior year of high school, but that was a long time ago." Both young women agreed that David Yurman pieces are acceptable, with the exception of the Panther bracelet which is, according to Intern #1, "completely overexposed." -30- |
KR, can I please throw your intern and her friend into oncoming traffic?
I love and will always love my Tiffany's jewelry even if cafeteria ladies use it too and I won't stop wearing them despite what the snobby bitches say. |
LOL
There is a replica for nearly everything, including high end shampoos and conditioners, so what does one do? |
That's why I've started wearing totally non-trendy stuff...I don't want to see people going around with the knock-offs!
Although...OK, I admit, I do think the "Return to Tiffany" tag necklace has had its day. Everyone in my chapter had one back in...2002. I've still got mine--duh, why get rid of such a nice piece I paid way too much for?--but I haven't had it out of my jewelry box in a long, long time. |

Wear whatever the hell you want people. :) |
Bwahahahaha. Most of my jewelry's hand-me-downs...er um, family heirlooms.
Eventually the 40s are gonna come back in style and I'm gonna have the originals, I guess? ;) |
if you wear or stop wearing a piece of jewelry just because of who is or isn't also wearing it, you're just an idiot because you've wasted your money. if you buy jewelry for the right reasons (not just because you think it'll make you look cool), but because you like it, it'll never go out of style because it's your style.
|
..I should just mention, that if you put this much effort into deciding why you will wear some pieces of jewelry and not others..you need some serious help.
Who cares if the cafeteria lady wears them!? For all you know she saved her paycheck for the last 5 years to buy one. I honestly think that making that kind of a distinction is the epitome of "unclassy". If something is cute, if it looks nice, if you like it....just wear it. I won't stop carrying my coach bag because knockoffs exist! If something is trendy or popular it's going to get immitated. I'm pretty sure that "an indisputable sign that you're poser trying too hard" is writing (or putting stock) in an article like that one! And that, is my two cents. |
Small Southeastern College junior Intern #2, a member of XYZ sorority, agrees. "Seriously, nobody I know wears that stuff anymore. Everyone had (Tiffany silver jewelry) my senior year of high school, but that was a long time ago."
That to me is the funniest thing of all!:) |
MMM as I sit in my Tiffany bean necklace and read this.....oh well I am a Mom and I know we aren't cool!
|
Just to clarify, you all know that that's not a real press release, right? It's just a little tongue in cheek somethin' somethin' that stemmed from a conversation I had yesterday with two of our college interns.
I'm not sure that they're being snobby; I think it's more that they're being college-age fashion victims. "If my friends wear something, I will too. If my friends don't wear something, then I won't either. Cases in point: anyone remember those black "sorority pants" that made 95% of the women who wore them look like they had a butt the size of a barn? Or the Doc Marten boots with a babydoll dress? (I'm showing my age with the second one, but 33Girl and alum will know what I mean :D ) |

I never saw the point in saving a whole paycheck for one purse or necklace. The whole point of designer brands are to show status and wealth. If you don't have it and waste your money trying to keep up...I hope you learn better before you miss rent and eat Ramen to purchase the newest trendy purse.

I'm by no means wealthy nor do I make a lot of money, but I'm allowed and entitled to buy pretty things here and there, and thankfully my decent paychecks allow me to do so without having to eat ramen. I don't buy my jewelry and purses to show off, so while designer brands mean showing off to you, it's not the same for everybody. I buy things based on how it looks and what kind of quality it has. So don't slap that label on me and those who like buying designer things. To me, wasting money = gambling, excessively spending at the bar/club, etc. Buying an expensive purse is definitely not wasting, especially if you're going to use it frequently. Quote:

Oh well. My Elsa Peretti heart necklace was a gift from my daught. I in turn later bought her the earrings and bracelet to match her heart necklace. This was three years ago, but hey we will continue to wear them. We love EP's designs.
And to the cafeteria ladies I say rock on! p.s. I knew this was a joke LOL |
I don't mind paying a high price for a good purse or a good pair of boots just b/c I know the quality is definitely better than some cheap knock-off that's going to fall apart in less than a month. It's not about status or wealth. It's about buying something that you like & makes you happy regardless of your personal financial worth or the cost.

Also I don't think a house or car are equivalent to purses or clothes. I guess I value function, trhift and practicality over a label. |

Jeez Tracy, I knew these things were out when the soccer mom next door to me started sporting hers to work. AND THIS IS IN PITTSBURGH.
If you bought your Tiffany necklace because you liked the style, cool, keep wearing it, but way way WAY too many people bought them not because they liked them but because they were "the thing" to buy. 90210 reruns are scary. I once saw the phrase "fashion Vietnam", well, this is most assuredly it. Much scarier than anything Mallory is wearing in Family Ties. |

I also can't tell you the number of Coach bags that I have that may need a zipper repair, but that is all and I just keep recycling them. |
To Refurbish Its Image, Tiffany Risks Profits
In todays Wall Street Journal
-------------------------------------------------- To Refurbish Its Image, Tiffany Risks Profits By Ellen Byron In the late 1990s, Tiffany & Co.'s silver charm bracelet was a must-have fashion accessory. Teens jammed Tiffany's hushed stores clamoring for the $110 silver bauble. Sales skyrocketed, investors cheered. Tiffany's managers worried. They knew the bracelet had become a fad, one that could alienate the jewelry firm's older, wealthier, and more conservative clientele. Worse, it could forever damage Tiffany's reputation for luxury. "The large number of silver customers did represent a fundamental threat -- not just to the business but to the core franchise of our brand," says Tiffany CEO Michael Kowalski. So in a dramatic gamble, Tiffany decided ... ------------------------------------------------------------ http://users1.wsj.com/lmda/do/checkL...hpp_us_pageone You need to be a paid subscriber to read the rest or just go to the newstand and pick up a copy. As an alumna, I also suggest to collegians to shop consignment. Guess how much cool stuff you can get there that isn't the same thing everyone else is wearing! |

To me, if you don't have $400 in cash to put in the purse, then you shouldn't be carrying a $400 bag. My 2 cents. (Currently carrying a $60 Vera Bradley Bag with a knock off Louis checkbook and a wallet from Fossil) |
If Tiffany is out, does that mean silverjewlryclub.com is in? Because I'm so all over that.
|
When I worked at the Limited, Tiffany pieces were some of the "rewards" we could collect at the end of the year. I have the Venetian Link neckalce and bracelet but I rarely wear them these days because I was seeing little (think pre-teen) girls in them.
