Legally Blonde: The Musical
Legally Blonde is now coming to Broadway. The first show is going to be in San Franscico though in January.
http://www.legallyblondethemusical.com/ I loved the movie, but this might be too much even for me. |
I read somewhere that they wanted to do a Legally Blonde 3, but Reese wasn't having it. I don't blame her -- sometimes you just know when to say when.
I doubt it'll last even a year. |
the bend and snap was born in san francisco?

But then again it's probably not the kind of bend and snap we know from the movie! :) |
Best. Christmas. Ever!

Ewwww!
I LOOOVE Legally Blonde--but enough is enough. Some movies just can't make it to Broadway--High Fidelity lasted about a week. But, Legally Blonde is pretty fluffy and campy and it could just work. Who knows? |
I actually loved High Fidelity. They changed it around a bit from the book, but the songs in it were great. I was singing them for like a week straight afterwards.
|
I love that movie and watch it everytime it comes on network TV.
What's the point of a musical, unless the "don't stomp your last season Prada shoes at me, honey" guy is doing the lead. Now I need to get "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" to come to Broadway. I watched that movie almost everyday it came on USA last week. :) |

Cats = aliens would explain quite a bit, really. If you gather several in one place (like my house), they develop special powers -- I'm pretty sure they can control the weather AND they can detect tasty food even through barriers such as tin foil or kitchen cabinets. |

Serena: You passed Spanish because you gave Professor Montoya a lap dance after the final. Margot: Luckily. |

Why do humans refer to themselves as "(insert item) person/people?" As if owning a dog, Ford vehicle, or Chia Pet is their defining trait. |
I don't know why people do that -- I think many people just like to define themselves somehow. Also, it seems like saying you're a cat person implies that you don't like dogs, doesn't it?
Eh, I have cats and a dog, so I guess I'm crazy either way. |
I actually kind of think it just might work. I watched some of the behind the scenes footage and they have a really good cast. And while some are disillusioned by it all now, I think there's a whole generation of young people who while find it very appealing and may even start to get into liking Broadway because of it. I mean it IS Legally Blonde afterall. :)

I can already imagine some of the songs... One will be about Elle getting dumped by Warren One will be about Elle trying to convince her parents, advisor to let her apply to law school Another will be about the frigid people at Harvard And one will be about her sorority sister be on trial for murder. LOL |

I'm going !!!! I'll let y'all know if it's good or just really really bad... I hope it's not too campy or cheesy, I know it could lean in that direction. But I love the movie so much.. ( I own the Elle Woods Barbie) that I just HAD to get tix. when I passed the theatre with the Marquee lit up with the sign for it. |
i know one of the chorus members who also happens to be the understudy for elle.

"Legally Blonde" official B'way opening: April 29. (It's been in previews in NYC for several weeks.)
"The producers of Legally Blonde, The Musical, based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture, announced today that the musical will officially open at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway) on Sunday, April 29, 2007." http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=17717 |

It's like High School Musical on Ice. I'm excited for the sequel, but I wouldn't go see it on ice if you paid me. Okay, well maybe if you paid me... |
According to this article
http://www.nysun.com/article/53271 the composer and lyricist did some "field work" at the KKG house at USC (California). They themselves went to a university much closer to the Atlantic coast. |
They've been writing and testing a lot of these movies-turned-into-musicals in Seattle, with mixed results. Hairspray was great, and I heard the Wedding Singer was good, but I also saw a couple shows here that they were trying to get to Broadway that left a lot to be desired.
For every new, creative, modern show like Wicked, there are a lot of "Mehhh"s. |
I saw it back in February,I don't want to say too much... but I will say it was absolutely HILARIOUS.
It's def. not "classic" broadway or anything... but I throughly enjoyed the time I spent watching it. They made some changes to the story (of course) which i think actually made the story more believeable. Has anyone heard the music yet ?? Because I just can't get OHMIGOD OHMIGOD YOUGUYS out of my head. :D :p |

The musical adaptation of Legally Blonde will be broadcast on MTV.
The network plans to air a performance of the show in October. http://www.nypost.com/seven/09052007...nde_my_mtv.htm I heard it was actually really good AND it was nominated for some Tony's, so I'll be watching. :) |

So, I watched it, and I'm still mixed on it. I know musicals are cheesy, but this was WAAAAAY over the top for me. Plus, if you've never seen the movie (yes, I realize that probably includes about 2 people in America), it wouldn't make much sense. My power surged in the middle of Elle singing to Warner after he proposes at the end, and it made me mad, because that was actually shaping up to be a pretty redeeming song.
I bet Luke Wilson was cringing at how Emmet was portrayed! I think my biggest problem was the casting. Every main character, I kept thinking that we've seen it before. The girl who played Elle reminded me of Kristin Chenoweth, the one that played Paulette reminded me of Carol Channing, the one who played Vivian reminded me of Megan Mulalaly (Karen on Will and Grace), and the one who played Emmet reminded me of Anthony Rapp. Oh, and for GC - I saw a girl in the audience toward the end in a pink & purple Tri Sigma shirt.:) |
I actually liked it. I bought the soundtrack (someone on here was talking about it) in July, and knew I would probably never get to NYC to see it. I wish there was more oppurtunities like this to watch the Broadway shows. Right now, I watch the traveling shows that come to Norfolk, the Tonys and Macy's Day parade to get my Broadway fix.
|
I DVR'd it yesterday and just watched it and loved it. I think it was different enough from the movie to make it seem like a new experience too. I'll even go so far as to say that I think if they made a movie of the musical version it would do very well. I mean, if you're looking to hate it from the start, you probably will, but I think it was done very well. :)
AlphaFrog -- I saw the Tri-Sigma shirt girl as well. |
Oh, I forgot to say yesterday that I loved the "Greek" chorus.
I think if I saw it again, it would grow on me. The only thing I won't get over is the "Gay or European" song. It was dumb, and it felt too much like "hey, we haven't had a song in a little while, let's sing!". I have a feeling that later on down the road, if this show gets performed non-equity, that song will be cut. It doesn't advance the plot, it doesn't flesh out a character, it's really nothing but silliness. Much like "Who's Got the Pain" in Damn Yankees. I DID like that she exposed him as gay because the "bend & snap" didn't work.:D |
As much as I love Legally Blonde, I have been trying to watch the musical on MTV. I love the fact that The Hills ladies are hosting the show.
But I don't like the lead who is playing Elle(sp). I need to watch it more to see if she grows on me. |
I loved "Gay or European" it did nothing for the plot, but neither did many of the other songs (what was up with the Riverdance sequence...?) But the way it was done was hilarious and the way it incorporated everyone and the choreography was great. And the gay lover was super cute with his little fussy bit. I think it was just a way to put some humor into the play because it had become very serious at that part.
