The Golden Globe Awards, Next The Oscars

I guess many of "us" will be watching or recording the broadcast.

Eddie, Beyonce, and Jennifer are all nominated for the DreamGirls roles.

Best of luck to the nominees!!!

I read the article, but I'm torn on if it's fair or not.

Beyonce clearly should be supporting actress in this movie. Jennifer Hudson was the star. I'm so baffled on why she supposedly has the leading role.

This is for the song....which she acutally had a chance in winning. We really need something to redeem ourselfs after Three Six Mafia won last year. I am really :( for her.

stardusttwin17 01-04-2007 01:57 PM

I don't feel bad for her - Prince "outed" her a while ago (that she can't read music) so I doubt she really had a hand in truly writing the song (suggesting a word or theme doesn't count). Her people fixed the submissions for nominations (she shouldn't have been nominated for Best Actress) so its just kharma that she's being removed from the category she "thought" she had a lock on.

I don't know why everyone is so sure she would have won in this category anyway - Prince Rogers Nelson is gona win for "Happy Feet" :D hands down!

lovelyivy84 01-04-2007 02:39 PM

The only thing she was the lead actress in was marketing and posters for Dreamgirls.

That was clearly Jennifer Hudson's movie. It sounds like behind the scenes maneuvering was taking place to steal some of her shine. tsk tsk tsk

You're so right! I am so perplexed as to why they had her in the forefront in all of their marketing materials. They were on the December cover of Ebony and the cover stated, "Beyonce' Brings Stage Classic to Film." You've got to be kidding me! Jennifer brought stage classic to film. What's up with that?

Just curious to know how you all think Jennifer feels about that. I even think Oprah was foul for allowing Beyonce to come out before Jennifer when she had the cast on her show. Jennifer was the main character.

AKA2D '91 01-04-2007 08:21 PM

A few minutes ago (at the hairdresser's), someone mentioned that if B was gonna appear on Oprah, she was to perform "Listen". This is all rumor, but I would not be surprised if it is true.

She can't read music? Writing words/lyrics has nothing to do with being able to read notes etc. She may not be able to read a music sheet, but I'm sure she can READ words that turn into lyrics. LOL

(Maybe I misunderstood the post by stardusttwin)

That rumor must have been valid because she did perform "Listen" when she was on Oprah two weeks ago.

Yeah. That was the rebroadcast. We wondered why Jennifer didn't perform and thought maybe it had something to do with waiting until the GG or the Oscars to do so. But, the rumor seems like it would accurate.

You didn't misunderstand - we just may not agree. The award is suppossed to be for creating the best original song not for singing it - otherwise it would be named best performance of a song. Look at how the other nominees are listed. The girl can't read or write music so why are they fronting on the credits? They might have been able to get away with it if they listed her as a contributor to the lyrics only. I just get tired of all these young "singers" who cant' be bothered to learn their craft. James Brown death reminded me how short the artist of today really are compared to generations past (now his personal life was a mess but he was a musician).

AKA2D '91 01-04-2007 08:52 PM

Nooooo. I was posting about you saying Prince "outting" Beyonce because she could not read music, therefore questioning her writing ability.

AKA2D '91 01-15-2007 07:44 PM

skeeliteful 01-15-2007 09:04 PM

Go 'head Jennifer!

ChanelLover 01-15-2007 09:04 PM

I'm so happy for her! She seems to be very humble. Meanwhile, I was surprised to see Bey crying. Wasn't surprised she lost.

lilbay77 01-15-2007 09:06 PM

Alright Jennifer!!!!!:D :D :D

BlessedOne04 01-15-2007 09:17 PM

So happy Jennifer won. I had to chuckle when she tripped and her speech was in her hand but she just started to ramble!!!

Dang Beyonce lost.

1browngirl 01-15-2007 10:01 PM

Beyonce lost, not really a big suprise but Eddie won Best Supporting Male

AKA2D '91 01-15-2007 10:03 PM

And Tracey was :D from ear to ear!

As soon as they called Meryl Streep's name, I figured she had it.

Girl, tell me about it! I was thinking maybe he was too shy to do the speech thing, but little btb told me he made a speech at the BET awards. I'll have to take her word for it.

AKA2D '91 01-15-2007 11:50 PM

Another one for DG!

Grey's Anatomy won also! :D

AKA2D '91 01-15-2007 11:53 PM

Forrest Whitaker has won!
ETA: Best Actor

Would someone tell Jack Nicholson's wife/girlfriend/date/whatever that she needs to stand up. Don't wait until the camera pans on you and you then decide to stand.

lilbay77 01-16-2007 12:05 AM

I picked all the winners before the show so no surprises...well I thought Listen would win but it is sorta contrived, like they were going for a big song. A song that could win.

FYI Oscar nominations will be announced January 23rd.

AKA2D '91 01-16-2007 12:09 AM

DAYUM @ the picture!

ETA: I LOVE MJB and Re Re's "Never Gonna Shake My Faith". That song is WONDERFUL!
I wished it would have won!

Obsession8 01-16-2007 12:16 AM

Can't wait 'til next month...

Just like Nupe4Life, I picked all the winners beforehand, so no surprises for me either. Sorry to say, but I wasn't really rooting for Beyonce' to win (in either category, certainly NOT for Best Actress {Musical/Comedy}). I knew Meryl Streep had that in the bag; she played the hayle outta that role as Miranda Priestley! I just don't think much of B as an actress, even in a musical.

Can't wait for the Oscar nods to be announced next Tuesday! I will be setting my alarm to watch them *LIVE* (as I always do)! It's my 3rd favorite day of the year!!! :) :) :) :) :)

AKA2D '91 01-16-2007 12:18 AM

Oscar Nods

NUPE4LIFE 01-16-2007 02:43 AM

Obsession, it's one of my favorite days of the year as well. We need to get up on that. I will be watching E! that morning.

Remember, the GGs are kinder to African-Americans than the Oscars are. I usually don't watch shows like this (too long and too boring) but the only time I watch the Oscars is if I know black folks are going to win. I may have to watch it this year. :)

SummerChild 01-16-2007 03:06 PM

Delph, it's typical Hollywood advertising. The big name sells the movie and is put first - even if she doesn't have the biggest role. They are trying to sell movies, not assess who had the biggest role. Many people went to see Dreamgirls for *Beyonce* not for Jennifer Hudson (who was still a relative no name until after the movie debuted and after last night). Even though she was on American Idol, she has not been around as long as and does not have as many fans as Beyonce. It's not fair but that's obviously how they roll in Hollywood.
