Hangover cures?

A huge gallon of sangria sounded like a good idea, now I realize it's not. I have a horrible hang over.

What are your hang over cures?

There is this bar where I live that's a couple blocks away and serves good bloody mary's.

SoCalGirl 12-07-2006 07:04 PM

Carne Asada burritos from the greasiest taco shop you can find. Or at least, a good tortilla and some water.

Bloody marys are good if you want the shits.

I found that drinking Pedialyte is good for really bad hangovers. They give em to children to rehydrate them, but I drank it once and felt like a new person.

There's times when I wish I could just give myself a good IV, though.

A big omelet with home fries, or a burger and onion rings, topped off with some Gatorade and water.

Coramoor 12-07-2006 07:19 PM

I thought I could drink when I was in college. A bottle of Jack or Rebel Yell no big deal...and then I went active in the Army and started drinking with other officers and senior NCOs. I was blacked out drunk by about 8pm last night and had to wake up at 6:30 for first formation. One of the worst hangovers ever because I was still expected to perform at my peak. I still have the shakes.

valkyrie 12-07-2006 07:20 PM

Take in this order:

1. Coke (the beverage, LOL)
2. Pizza (cheese with extra sauce is my preference)
3. Excedrin migraine

aephi alum 12-07-2006 07:33 PM

You're hung over at 6pm? That's not good.

aephi alum's hangover cure: Three Advil, a glass of water, and some nice greasy food. (If you've been worshipping the porcelain god, drink some additional water.)

aephi alum's hangover prevention: Don't drink so much in the first place. :p (Guess that advice is a little late ;) )

33girl 12-07-2006 07:34 PM

An omelet with a side salad and a glass of tomato juice.

my boyfriend is a paramedic, as is are all his friends, and so when they get all kinds of drunk, they whip out the IVs .. lmao it has got to be the funniest thing ever. not the smartest, but very funny :D

cutie_cat_4ever 12-07-2006 08:07 PM

I hear it works as well, but those give you the shits too.

Texas Beta 12-07-2006 08:20 PM

I'm surprised not more people have said breakfast tacos. We have this place named Juan in a Million, and they have a taco called the Don Juan. The things a monster, i'd say four or five tacos into one. Well I had one of those, but my hangover is still pretty bad.

Dionysus 12-07-2006 08:42 PM

How well does one glass of water per drink work (for prevention)?

ADqtPiMel 12-07-2006 08:43 PM

Thai food.

Still BLUTANG 12-07-2006 08:44 PM

I think drinking as much water as possible helps, as does late-night snacking.

tunatartare 12-07-2006 09:02 PM

Cheese fries.

USCTKE 12-07-2006 10:14 PM

another beer in the morning.

summer_gphib 12-07-2006 10:24 PM

Gatorade before bed. Since I started doing that I've not a had a hangover at all! Despite many many shots of Jimmy Beam.

sdsuchelle 12-07-2006 10:32 PM

After you're done drinking and before bed:

Drink lots of water or gatorade
Eat a carne asada burrito or some other equally greasy food

As for when you're already hungover.. nothing has ever worked for me, besides sleeping and Advil.

Pedialyte was standard in our college apartment. If I can't get som pedialyte, its gatordae or propel (depending on the extent of the hangover). That washes down the 3 or so advil.

Before the night ends, cheese fries or taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a hard roll from the diner. Along with a big glass of ginger ale.

ufdale 12-07-2006 10:58 PM

My best friend and I have had some crazy crazy nights, but I've never once been hungover. I'm a pretty heavy drinker too, especially for my little size. My friend and I alway ALWAYS drink one glass of water per shot.
8 shots= 8 glasses of water
It's either so much water that you throw up or it rehydrates you. Either way you feel fine the next day.

KatieKate1244 12-07-2006 11:34 PM

One of my friend swears by a few handful of peanuts(the regular kind in a can, not honey roasted) in the morning. I've seen her gone from hungover to perky in a matter of minutes with this.

I, on the other hand, use a hangover as an excuse to stay in bed and ignore people.

Tippiechick 12-08-2006 12:21 AM

A Phenergan, a bottle of gatorade, and some sleep. Works every time for me.

I'm the same way...though if it's a particularly rough night, I substitute "couch" for "bed".

Beta, clearly the best cure is a warm Bud heavy, two Advil, a fresh Marlboro light.......and any combination of Cisco's breakfast, Abuelos, Maudies (with a margarita), El Rancho, Curras, Amaya's, or Las Manitas. If you can suffer through it.....the drive to Coopers with the windows down and the music blaring is also a good cure. Its only an hour or so.

hazelle 12-08-2006 02:09 AM

Ok,ok, along the lines of Pedialyte but easier to buy, cheaper and IT REALLY WORKS: simple garden variety of flavors....popsicles!! This comes from our pediatrician who learned it in med school--rehydrates, moistens the mouth, gets rid of the ickky taste, the sugar solution reestablishes the electrolytes which is what makes you still keep on ...keeping on on the porcelain princess--the more you can eat, the faster it works...may not work the first or second time depending on your indulging..but it will...it also works for flu and especially bringing down fevers--and they are so colorful--ha ha !!

honeychile 12-08-2006 02:29 AM

And I was upset that I had to take Pharmacology....

Put simply, drinking makes your brain cells shrink. Once the "feeling good" part of drinking is over, those brain cells will hurt. You need to rehydrate them, ASAP.

It really doesn't matter if you use Pedialyte, Gatorade, or Water - but once you've stopped drinking, start drinking (nonalcoholic) - lots and lots of them. Have a glass (or large bottle) next to your bed. When you wake up, drink more water. By keeping your brain cells properly hydrated, you will put off the pain, until there's no pain to put off any longer.

The only other scientifically proven method (which I've heard of) is a combination of throwing up before going to bed, then drinking lots of liquids as in above. It's good for bonding, too!

That's where Puke & Rally comes in handy even before you leave the bar.

But what happens when you wake up the next morning, drink the water like you're supposed to...only to have the water make you feel even sicker that it comes back out?

[not that I'm speaking from experience or anything]

hazelle 12-08-2006 02:55 AM

The reason I got this popsicle cure is because I used to not be able to drink in college--christened every fraternity house due to the strength of bourbon and the weakness of my stomach--for me, the water thing would kill me too. Instant return to the porcelain...but the popsicles stick around and make me and the porcelain complete strangers!! One girl's cure...another one's avoidance...but wish I had guys' stomachs so I could eat all that food you all mentioned after barfing....oh well, I can have babies and they can't so guess all things balance out...lol!!

honeychile 12-08-2006 03:18 AM

One cure for nausea (not necessarily for hangover tummy problems): chew one or two whole coffee beans. I have no idea how or why it works, but it does!

Texas Beta 12-08-2006 04:51 AM

coffee beans, sounds gross.

ragtimerose 12-08-2006 06:21 AM

Oooooh...chocolate covered espresso beans. I'll have to remember that.

Seriously, what worked for me was pineapple juice. I guess it's the combination of rehydration and enzymes that was in the mix, but I've only been hung over once in my life.

When I worked as a bartender I had to save many a girl in the bathroom and it usually included pineapple juice and a cold towel to the neck.

For some reason they always felt better.

I learned that trick at a party. No cold towel to the neck for me, but the pineapple juice worked wonders.

AlexMack 12-08-2006 10:32 AM

A friend would drink a nalgene of water before she went to bed no matter how drunk she was. Works beautifully.
Hangovers are just dehydration, so as others have mentioned, drink, drink, and drink some more water.

LOL the few times I've had hangovers that were THAT bad, nothing helped but time. Usually by evening I'd be okay to have some pizza and then feel better, but oh man that sucks.

adpiucf 12-08-2006 12:58 PM

Gatorade before bed and again in the morning helps me.

omg, the one time i was really really hungover the water coming back up was the worst! it hurt more than anything else. i puked the whole next day, it was terrible! my friend made me eat a banana and it came back up so fast that the bathroom didn't smell like puke, it smelt like banana. that was the worst day! the only thing that helped that day was flat, warm gingerale.

Gatorade is the best thing for hangover prevention. After a night of heavy drinking, I try to have about 2 to 3 big glasses before bed. It'll make you have to get up in the middle of the night to pee several times but it's better than feeling like crap the next day. Another thing that helps is eating some food. If I drink Gatorade and eat some food before bed, I feel fine the next day.

For the times that I pass out before doing all the prevention methods, I honestly haven't found anything that will cure the hangover. Sleep use to help but a couple of weeks ago I got about 10 hours of sleep after I had a few drinks and I still felt like crap warmed over the next day. Bananas helped out a lot with nausea since it puts Potassium back in your system.
