I need a tie tack

We do secret santas in my multi-cultural friends and family circle. This year, I have been assigned Mr. Metro. He wants a swanky tie tack/tie bar to hold his ties in place when he is wearing them, and my spending limit is $30-$50 (I'll be spending about $100 total on his gift, as we all havea $100 SS budget, but wanted to get a few other things for him, too). Any ideas? I am looking for something simple, silver and classy. Expensive looking works, but the Tiffany's catalogue is a bit out of my range.

Thanks!

Is he aware that tie tacks can ruin a good tie? (besides the fact that tie tacks are ridiculous.)

I think so--- he wants a tie bar-- one that clips, not one that pins through the tie.

A tie bar is about as cool as a clip on tie.

If he's a metro as you say, I'm sure he owns a plethora of pink ties. Destroy those and buy him a nice navy or red tie. Polo has good deals around Christmas to keep the cost down around $50.

My hubby wears a tie chain, which looks pretty cool. I don't remember where we bought it, but it's another option. It has a bar that hooks to the button in the shirt and then the chain goes over the top of the tie.

Tie pins are evil.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a pink tie....so long as it is not solid pink.

No offense, macallan, but that statement is at least half of what is wrong with America today.

If it were me, I'd try to think of a store that matches his style and go in and see what they had in the way of tie tacks.

Do you know where he usually shops?

I gotta ask. What's a multi-cultural friends and family circle?

adpiucf 12-04-2006 11:29 PM

Brooks Bros, Jos A. Bank, Tiffany & Co... you know...

UGAalum94 12-04-2006 11:50 PM

Of those only Tiffany and Co. seemed to have one, and theirs is $100. I guess you knew that.

I googled tie bars though and I got some results for sterling silver. Knowing the guy, you could probably see if any worked.

Doesn't sound metro to me.

I'm not talking about a flaming solid pink tie.....I figured you could see that. A darker shade of pink, coupled with other matching colors is perfectly fine.......and more than appropriate for late spring/summer when lighter colors are what should be worn.

I've seen guys wearing something like what you said, like a mixture of purple and pink, but darker shade...forgot what it's called though, but it looks really nice :) and it's not metro at all, just like guys wearing light pink shirts

Our extended "family" of family, friends and neighbors who come from different faiths. We've taken to selecting names out of a hat and giving one "secret santa" gift to that person (in lieu of a bunch of spending $30 per person on various people for gifts, you spend $100 on that one person) and celebrating our own Chrismukah ;) It ends up being cheaper.

tunatartare 12-05-2006 10:48 AM

Oh ok. That makes sense. The way you said it, I thought it was like a club or an organization that you belong to.

Merry chrismahannakwanzakah to you too!

You, too!

Seriously, does anyone have any recommendations? Something simple, silver or stainless steel....

SigKapSweetie 12-06-2006 11:32 AM

Have you tried Macy's or Dillards?

ETA: They have a bunch here, about halfway down the page. http://www.thetiebar.com/categoryPag....asp?view=all&

EATA: They also have a bunch of really nice sterling silver ones on amazon.com. Just search 'tie bar' in the jewelry section.

adpiucf 12-06-2006 12:29 PM

SigKapSweetie-- what a great web site. Thanks! I may end up ordering my boyfriend some ties from them, too.
