Another hopeful PNAM

Dear GreekChat gurus;
Like Louisa May I wanted to share my journey with the knowledgeable people on GreekChat. I've been viewing and following a number of stories and the board and have decided to take the plunge myself. My story follows:
I had always been interested in joining a sorority and was excited to go through rush. I was also exicted about college and looking forward to being involved with a number of activities. In high school I had been active on the debate team and was thrilled to receive a debate scholarship to my university.
I made it through three rounds of rush and was so thrilled with the potential sororities that invited me back. Unfortunately, it was not to be. My debate coach informed me that debate meetings were required for my scholarship and were held on the same nights that sorority meetings were held. In addition, my father felt that he did not want me to join a sorority and believed I should keep my scholarship. With many tears and regrets I dropped out of rush before Bid Day. I had a very busy and successful college career and have had two great careers in very different fields.
My regrets have stayed with me and surfaced again in connection with my mother's passing. My mother had a group of friends that were with her for many years, with one friendship lasting 80 years! I live in a different state and couldn't visit as often as I wanted. Her friends visited her at least once a week and sometimes twice a week. When I asked her closest friend how she managed, she replied: "A group of alumnae from some of the sororities offer to give rides to elderly sisters. I just call my sisters." I was touched and so grateful that women who I didn't meet would help my mother's friends keep her company. It brought back all my regrets and I began my research. I'm in the process of preparing a contact email and wanted to share my journey with those in the forum. As I visited with my mother and the others in the nursing home, one of the ladies said: "I don't regret what I did, but I do regret not doing some things that I really wanted to!" It is in that spirit that I begin my journey.

Thanks for sharing your stories, they've given me the courage to investigate,

Corgilover

Good luck.

And I hope in your readings here you've seen the drama that can ensue from an AI thread. Take all of that for what you will, but discretion cannot be emphasized enough.

corgilover 11-27-2006 02:12 PM

Thank you

Thanks for your reply. Discretion is very important in my profession and to me personally. It's a good idea to remind me of that.

Drolefille 11-27-2006 02:12 PM

on a side note, do you have a corgi (or two)? I love them!

corgilover 11-27-2006 02:16 PM

Yes, I do have two corgis - and I'm glad to find another fan of the breed!

navane 11-29-2006 02:03 AM

Welcome Corgilover! You have a wonderful story and I wish you lots of luck.

.....Kelly :)

(PS - I'm partial to Rhodesian Ridgebacks myself!)

Corgilover, welcome aboard! As an honorary initiate of Delta Delta Delta, I send you the warmest wishes in your AI journey. :)

corgilover 11-30-2006 03:20 PM

Thanks

Thanks bichonl. Yours was one of the stories I followed with great interest. Congratulations on Tri-Delta. Your perseverance is a good example for me.

Sorry, I haven't been following your story. What is an honorary initiate?

I thought initiates were initiates. I didn't know there was such a thing with honorary in the NPC.

It is Tri Delta's way of saying we're AI-ing people now. Previously it was only absorbed locals, those women are called Alumane Initiates. Anyone else is called Honor Initiates.

Certainly I'm not one to question an org's AI policy, but for some reason everytime I hear the word "honorary" I think "in name only"...you know, like Honorary Chair.

Tippiechick 11-30-2006 11:56 PM

In Zeta, Geralyn Lucas, our newest "AI" is termed anhonorary initiate.

blueangel 12-01-2006 09:30 AM

In Zeta, the term is "Honorary Initiate," but it is not "in name only." An Honorary Initiate (that is what they termed my process) has all of the same rights and privileges of ZTA membership as someone who was initiated in college has. In other words, a Zeta is a Zeta.

Good luck with your journey, Corgi.

bichonl 12-01-2006 10:48 AM

OTW, you've raised an excellent question. Tri Delta calls its AIs "honor initiates" or "honorary initiates". My membership certificate states that I was "regularly initiated" with the Alpha Pi chapter. I was initiated with their fall pledge class for Trident and Stars & Crescent degrees.

corgilover 12-01-2006 02:32 PM

Thanks

Many thanks for the good luck wishes, and it's good to see the clarification of terms for some of the sororities. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of all who send good wishes my way.
I'm preparing my contact email and have decided to use the names of ski resorts - I just had to come up with something that I would remember and that other creative people hadn't already used. I'm planning to contact a group I'll call Aspen. From the excitement, I feel like I'm at the top of a balck diamond!

Thanks again,

Corgilover

My nerves are showing

My nerves must be showing - I can't type today! It should be black diamond. Oh well, at least it's Friday.

What a touching story! Good luck to you--being a part of a sorority is a wonderful thing and I hope you find exactly what you're looking for.

Also, a side note--I love corgis--mine sadly passed away almost 2 years ago and I miss her very much! She was gorgeous-the best dog imaginable!

corgilover 12-04-2006 01:49 PM

Condolences

I can understand how you feel, they're the best dogs. Even the Queen of England has been known to say "A nice breed but not nearly as nice as corgis". Thanks also for your kind thoughts, I'm really looking forward to joining a sisterhood and giving back some of the kindness I've received.

On my way to work today, I was behind a car whose plate holders read:

"I LOVE MY CORGIS"

I thought of this thread. :)

corgilover 12-18-2006 01:59 PM

Contact

I have contact with Aspen and I must say it's like a holiday present to be on the road to something I've dreamed of for so long. Maybe I will get a sign for my car that says "I love my corgis" or just "got corgi?" I've been able to take my mind off waiting for replies by showing my younger dog - she's a handful with a bright mind and very lively personality. I certainly can't snooze when she's in the ring!

Thanks to all who've been kind enough to read the thread and offer advice. And Happy Holidays to all!

Buttonz 12-18-2006 07:03 PM

Good luck with your search.

I love the name....I have a male Corgi :)

corgilover 12-21-2006 07:43 PM

My dogs

I have a boy and a girl corgi. I'm always glad to hear about another corgi owner. My boy is older and is a champion who will do just about anything for a belly rub. My girl won't sit or lie still long enough for a belly rub. Hug your dog for the holidays!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

I've also seen the term of "special initiates" but I forgot which NPC used it.

Any updates so far?

Btw, here is a pic of Baily:

Enjoy :)

Buttonz

Baily is so cute!!!:)

corgilover 02-05-2007 05:45 PM

Update

I have to say how cute Bailey is! He has that wonderful corgi face that is amazingly expressive for being covered in fur! I will have to look for great pictures of my dogs to attach to my next reply.
I do have an update or two. I have made contact with another group which I will call Snowbird. I have been to one alumni group function and had a wonderful time and felt that we all had so much in common. I'm excited to attend another Snowbird function and meet more of the members. If this is a taste of sisterhood, my decision to look into AI is one of my best. I don't want to say too much about the groups in the interest of being discreet and also since one day I hope to add a guessing section to this thread. ;)

Thanks for the picture and the interest,

Corgilover

Thank you, I can't wait to see yours :)

Good luck with Snowbird, I'm glad that you had a good time with them!

BadSquirrelBeta 03-13-2007 12:55 AM

I wanted to let you know my friend which I am going to start walking a mile with in the morning will be bringing her Corgi along...just had to share, thought of this thread. Hope you are doing well with your search. Take care :)

corgilover 03-13-2007 11:10 AM

That's great! Both my corgis would love a mile walk each morning. I'm getting ready to move to a house near some great trails for hiking and I just know my dogs will love it.
My search is going well - I've been to some functions for a group I call Snowbird and I just love the members! They have been so welcoming and friendly and have truly shown me that they live the values of their sisterhood. I can't wait to go to each function and it seems like I make at least one new friend every meeting. Thanks for asking. I'm going to try to follow your example and get my dogs out for a mile walk, but I will have to go in the evening. Happy walking,

Corgilover:)

Not only is your face available for chapters and Nationals to see, but the boob shots  (at least 3 that I saw in your album) really have to go. PNM of any age need to represent themselves as a lady.

Good luck on your journey.

 I guess I'm a bit confused - to which album are you refering? The only person that posted an album in this thread is Buttonz and she is not a PNM - she is already in a sorority.

Corgilover is the author of this thread and is the potential Alumna Initiate. Unless I've missed something, I don't recall her posting any photos. Were you thinking of the wrong person?

.....Kelly :)

corgilover 03-14-2007 01:34 PM

I don't have a photo album

I don't have a photo album online, or even a paper one for that matter! In fact, I don't even view photos online!
Navane, thank you for responding so kindly to that comment, I greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
While it is possible that another has chosen a similar on-line name I can state with complete certainty that the person in the photos is not me.

Guest1 03-14-2007 01:34 PM

PNM

I was wondering that myself...
