New Year's Party Dresses!!

I need some help... I'm going to a very trendy place for NY'07 with a very handsome guy (woohooo!!) and so naturally, I'd like to look stunning ;)

I'm considering the following dress from Banana Republic to ring in the New Year... what do you think? Any other suggestions?

Shoes? Accessories? Dress me! Or just post pictures of beautiful party dresses!

tp - I'm not sure that's the right dress for the event. Maybe it's the way she's standing, but it looks like it flows out too much from the empire waist - looking a bit maternity-ish. I've seen pics of you and from what I recall you have a great figure. If I were you, I'd go with something that shows that off a bit more. You specifically said "trendy" about the place, and that dress doesn't strike me as having much "wow" factor. JMO. :)

I had assumed NY party would be shishi. (However that's spelled.) Based on what Kathy said I like these two from Banana.

I saw the top one in person at Banana Republic last night. It's made out of a weird corduroy/velvet fabric and looks pretty bad up close.

J Crew is always my first choice for party dresses. Trendy, but not too trendy.

So I just realized this is a New Year's Party. I read the orignal post as a New York New Year's Eve Party! :D

I'm partial to this one... It's cute in the picture, at least! :)

I am looking for a NYE dress as well to wear to a fancy party in St. Louis, I don't have any cute cocktail dresses (mainly b/c I've never had anywear to wear them before now) and while Nordstrom has some really beautiful things, I just can't see myself spending (or even HAVING for that matter) $600 on a dress. So suggestions are definitely welcome, (especially if it's in a color other than black since all my other nice dresses are black).

Ann Taylor LOFT has some fabulous black holiday dresses right now for under $150 (I think they start at under $100). They also have some great shoes and purses to match! Check it out.

I posted this a while ago, but I love it so much. I got it for $35 at Banana Republic. It's in the sale section of their website right now for $59...loooovee it so much. The length is perfect.

I need to find a nice wrap to go with it. I got a fabulous pair of bronze heels to go with the whole thing.

Thanks XOK!

I was kinda sorta thinking the same thing when I saw the dress in person and tried it on.

I NEED to look WOW because WOW is my date hot! haha

Maybe I'm being way too judgemental on myself, but I see so many pretty dresses and they end up looking prettier on the hanger :(

And I'm dying to buy it in a 00! Ha! Beat that! Kidding, that dress is not my style at all. Way too formal.

I know it's not as fancy, but I have found some great dresses at Dillards the last few months.

saw this one in person and it's adorable.

Beautiful dress indeed. I'll check it out next time I go to Dillard's.

xo_kathy 11-17-2006 11:28 AM

I see a lot of these halter tops with low backs - that looks like a great silouette. That Dillard's dress is great, actually!

ETA: I just browsed the cocktail dresses on the Dillard's site and there are a LOT of really cute, sexy in a sophisticated way, dresses!

I bought mine from White House|Black Market for an event we're going to in DC for New Years...I love it because it looks so much more elegant in person (I don't think the picture is that great) and how expensive the fabric feels, when it was a relatively cheap dress (I believe it was $130). Its actually an ivory silkish dress with a black lace overlay, so it looks great when you move. I can't wait to wear it, I'm super early (I plan stuff way in advance) so I already have the shoes and accessories to go with it. :)

OMG I love that dress! We have two White House|Black Market stores here now, that opened recently and I still have not been to either. Thanks for reminding me about the store, I will definitely have to go there and check out their dresses! :)
