North Atlantic Regional Conference 2007 Hartford, CT

As many of you may already know, the 2007 North Atlantic Regional Conference will be held in Hartford, CT in January. If you are familar with the area, please post suggestions on eateries, night life and attractions in Hartford.

mccoyred 11-07-2006 02:51 PM

I am looking forward to the information because in July of this year, the DST Eastern Regional Conference is in Hartford. Their convention and visitor's bureau must have been working real hard in 2006! :D

Hey . . . I'm a Hartford native

Downtown, on the corner of Trumble Street and Pratt street (accross from the Civic Center) there is a black owned establishment called "The Russell". It's a lounge/ cocktail place that serves what I call gourmet West Indian food and offers live jazz on Thursday's. I'm not sure if they still do the live poerty or the wine tasting on the weekends. Overall, it is a sophisticated place for people of color to meet, network and relax. The dress code (there's no official one but unofficially) is dressy casual. Example blazers with jeans and heals, a nice blouse and skirt ect. Can you tell that I just love this place:D

Here's the website:

^^^Thank you. This place looks GREAT! I can't wait to try it out. I will def make my reservations early, because it looks like they can get booked fast. If you have other great suggestions please post.

black_princess 11-07-2006 06:13 PM

If your planning to go during the weekday (Mon-Wed.) then reservations aren't really necessary . . but if you planning to go on the weekend . . .especailly on Friday or Saturday then yea, reservations are a really good idea

Well when the AKAs are in town things tend to book quickly ;) Let's just say My Sorors know how to have a good time and paint the town Pink and Green!

Hi all, I was born and raised in a suburb of Hartford, and now go to school there. One big suggestion; if you're a beer fan, or just want a chill place to hang out, CitySteam Brewery is solid. They brew their own beer, and the food is pretty good (although it's more of a burgers and fries type place).

Pour House and the Wooden Tap are a couple of other places to grab a drink.

If anyone has more specific questions on the area, feel free to PM me. I'm not an AKA, but would be happy to try to help those coming to the area for the first time.

An *ear shattering* skeeeeee-weeeeee to all my beautiful Sorors of the Notable North Atlantic Region! I had a great time at Regionals. My time was spent networking with Sorors, celebrating accomplishments and of course conducting business and acquiring new skills! Did anyone else attend? I will post pictures later...I need to rest

Y'all were VERY smart to go to Connecticut in July, because Hartford in January ain't nothin' nice!

My pointers:

Stay at the Marriott if you can. It's definitely the most convenient hotel to the convention center, by far!

Pack snacks and beverages. The food situation is far from plentiful, so you want to be prepared in case you need a snack, and it's always good to bring your own bottled water instead of paying inflated hotel/convention center prices. The convention center was pretty good with having a hot dog cart and snack stand available outside of session, but I definitely prefer having my own than paying $1.25 for a $.50 bag of chips.

If you're looking for a quick mall excursion, check out the Westfarms Mall. They have a ton of great shops and restaurants.

***I think that's it for now.

^^ I was lightweight jealous of those who stayed at the Hilton. I heard they were very well taken care of with all sorts of goodies. Supposedly, the manager is a Kappa.

I could use one of those specially made martinis right now, LOL!!

Yes, the Marriott was nice (well with the exception of my neighbors who were obviously smoking in their room)

We "discovered" Nicks and had our food delivered. The cost was reasonable. We figured we must have tipped well because we got our meals within 20-25 minutes of ordering each time
.:D

How about we ordered Chinese delivery and my delivery man asked me what the heck was going on??? He was like, I just had deliveries at the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton. I told him that a sorority is having a conference at the convention center and we've travelled from as far south as Washington D.C. and as far north as Maine to attend. Then he had the nerve to question why we weren't staying at the Marriott. I told him that one hotel couldn't contain us all :-P

Greetings Sorors!

This was my very first NARC experience, and I am still tickled pink...it was absolutely fabulous!

I stayed at the Hilton, and yes, they took very, very good care of us! They had pink and green lighting in the lobby, the elevators, the restaurant...everywhere! When we came back from the first day's sessions, they had these absolutely delightful pink & green tea cookies waiting for us in the lobby! I even heard that they had pink toilet paper in the lobby-level restrooms (I didn't see it for myself).

The special AKA menu that they had prepared for us was the icing on the cake! I didn't get to try the Skee-Wee Tini that they had on the menu, but I heard that they were delish! :p

I wanted to get a copy of the menu to have as a keepsake, but forgot to ask for one as I checked out! However, one of the sorors in my chapter did get one of the menus when she left. They were too cute!

See, y'all just had to rub it in our faces, huh? :p :p :p
