Chi-O Trivia

Okay ladies, it's Chi-O trivia time!
In my chapter I'm known as the individual that knows pretty much anything and EVERYTHING there is to know about Chi Omega (history, songs, meanings...etc).
So the other night for our "Good of the Order" we played Chi Omega Survivor. Us Juniors won the immunity challenge!

And here's the question:
Back in the good old days (like around the time our founders were around), how much were dues?
A) 40 cents a month
B) 10 cents a month
C) 25 cents a month
D) 18 cents a month
(please don't cheat)

Post your answers and comments. I'll be posting a new question in a couple days!
Good Luck!
Hootie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

PS. The point to Chi-O Trivia is to remind us, in a fun way, about our sorority. It's not meant to be a competition or a test. Just have fun with it and see how much you really know about Chi Omega!

Hootie, you are sneaky! I remember that question from pledging and if I was home, I might just go look in my manual, but I won't cheat!

I really thought it was 20 cents, but since that is not an option, I'll go with 25 cents.

By the way, good idea! You're a great moderator and perchance are you or were you a Pledge Ed.? Ever thought about being an NC?

Hootie 03-08-2001 03:34 PM

SuperXO~
Unfotunately I was never a new member educator http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I really wanted to be one though! I just LOVE learning about Chi Omega and knowing all there is to know about our fabulous organization.
I've never thought about being a National Consultant because I haven't held an executive position.
Who knows. I still need to finish up school first, but I wouldn't mind traveling and helping chapters with recruitment ideas (I'm a Public Relations major).
I'll be posting an answer to the above question in a few days! Gotta keep yall wondering!
Love in the bonds,
Hootie (Amy)

Well because this weekend is going to be very busy for me, I'll post the answer and a new question.

Back in the good old days (like around the time our founders were around), how much were dues?

B) 10 cents a month

QUESTION 2 (a little easier)
Who made the first Chi Omega Badge and out of what?

A) Dr. Richardson, Platinum
B) Jobelle Holcombe, Paper
C) Allie Simonds, Aluminum
D) Dr. Richardson, Dental Gold
E) Ina Mae Boles, Platinum

------------------
What do you get when you cross and Alpha Omicron Pi and a Sigma Phi Epsilon? A beautiful Chi Omega!!!

BetaBeta2001 03-09-2001 01:19 AM

The answer is D. Dr. Richardson, and Dental Gold. Something I actually remember from pledge education!

-Katherine

MaryMayXO 03-09-2001 02:19 AM

I think BetaBeta is definetly right! Dr. Richardson did make the first badge out of dental gold!!

Hootie 03-09-2001 03:27 AM

You all are too smart! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
You're right! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Dr. Richardson created our first badge out of dental gold. The members all took turns wearing it. Ina Mae Boles was the one that created the Official Council Ring, not badge. Julia Winchell (Xi Chapter) though was noted for designing the first pledge pin!
PS. I did have to look up some of that information LOL!
Have a good weekend and I'll post a new question after Spring Break! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
COTIA!

So here we go!

Which of our founders left Chi Omega early to study abroad and persue her dreams of an artist's career?

A) Jean Vincenheller
B) Alice Cary Simonds
C) Ina May Boles
D) Jobelle Holcombe

Good Luck and don't cheat http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

MaryMayXO 03-20-2001 02:31 PM

I am going to guess Ally Simonds????

SuperXO 03-20-2001 02:33 PM

I agree, Mary, I think I remember Ally Simonds being the artistic one.

cutehootie 03-21-2001 07:02 PM

My guess is also Ally which means we are prolly wrong...lol.

Hootie 03-26-2001 02:36 AM

A) Jean Vincenheller
B) Alice Cary Simonds
C) Ina May Boles
D) Jobelle Holcombe

The answer is C; Ina May Boles.
After studying in Chicago, New Your, and Paris, she settled in New York and later married Mr. Morton, a lawyer there. She did not foget Chi Omega, serving not only with her art as it was needed, but installing several chapter in those early days.
I did want to bring to your attention that Allie did have some artistic talent but she married and shortly after bearing a child, died. Her grave was kept up by her sisters (how sweet).

Hootie-
That's an easy one! Even I remember this one and I have been an Alum for almost twenty years. The answer of course is C. However, I believe it was only from 1906 that the badges were standardize. Prior to that time they were all different sizes and different types of stones. Also, I believe that the badge has to be either all diamonds or all pearls. However, I do have a question regarding who is permitted to wear the pearl and diamond badge. Please email be privately even though I do not think that this is private information. (Just in case)

Also not to change topic-but has anybody seen the diamond badge (ring) currently on ebay.

finally one that I actually know! its definatley C http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I believe that any initiated member can wear either badges. I think most choose the pearl one however because of price. I know my chapter just orders the pearl ones to be fair and similar. Who was it on this board that said their mother or grandma or someone they knew had a diamond badge. Was that Jordan...I can't remember.
At anyrate...I think anyone can wear them. I mean, it would only make sense since they offer them to be purchased in Chi O Creations.
If anyone knows differently, please correct me.
Have a HOOTerrific Day Everyone-

MaryMayXO 03-28-2001 02:14 PM

Yeah, I think Hootie is right. One of the pledges who just got initiated was pinned with her mother's badge. It was so beautiful, I had never seen one with diamonds!! Our chapter gets pearls for the most part!!

xok85xo 03-28-2001 03:14 PM

I was going to get a diamond badge (because I was a diamond pledge) but couldn't afford it..however, one of my little sisters (who ironically enough was a diamond pledge) got a diamond badge..its absolutely gorgeous
-Kate

happyowl 03-28-2001 04:11 PM

Hi Everyone,

Regarding the diamond badge, I guess this is one of those things things that chapters differ on. In my chapter only the president was allowed to purchase a diamond badge. Everyone else wore pearl badges. Another thing I noticed about my chapter was that only initiated sisters were allowed or even own anything with the XO letters in Greek. Of course, the pledge pin was exempted from this rule. Also pledges were allowed to wear clothing that had the words Chi Omega in English. Let me tell you how much I wanted to were the letters as a pledge. I still remember how excited I was wearing my letters on campus for the first time. I couldn't even sleep the night before.

Hi Amy

I thought it was a national thing too-then I met other Alums from different chapters who were allowed to wear their letters. Plus I remember someone saying from my chapter that other chapter's pledges were allowed to wear letters. But maybe it depended on when you pledged. Truthfully, I never thought of that before. BTW, I was the Winter pledge class of 1981.

ISU_XO 03-28-2001 04:49 PM

After we got our bids, the actives would let us borrow their stuff so we could wear our letters the very next day, but the crest was the thing we could not wear until we were initiated.

I had a permanent stupid grin on my face the day after I got my bid- struttin around school in my XO sweatshirt!

MaryMayXO 03-28-2001 06:13 PM

At my chapter, we could wear our beloved letters right on Bid Day!! My Bid Day shirt was so cute!! The only thing that we couldn't use were things with the Crest on it.

ISU_XO 03-29-2001 01:14 AM

My roommate had a diamond badge but I agree- I know I ordered pearls because of the cost! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

This woman was the editor of the Eleusis.

persephone631 04-02-2001 04:39 PM

ErikaXO 04-02-2001 07:40 PM

I remember seeing a picture of a turquoise badge, back from the days when you could wear any stones....I think it was in the Eleusis, actually. It looked really funky, just a standard badge but with turquoise stones instead of pearls. And they showed us one at Convention that was something unique, but being a big dork I have forgotten what it was.

The correct answer is B. Ida Pace Purdue was actually a member of Chi Omega while it was still in its beginning stages - local sorority. It was Dr. Richardson who suggested Miss Pace become a member of Chi Omega because of her maturity. Even though Ida was a graduate, she concented to join.
It was our manual in 1909 that was dedicated to her...'whose untiring service, wise judgement and ennobling influence...have contributed more than any other cause to Chi Omega's growth.'

Hootie 04-03-2001 02:53 PM

Okay, the next question on Chi Omega trivia is going to be a little bit harder. Some of you alumna might not get this, but give it your best shot.

A Chi Omega active must be active in how many quality activities...

A. 3
B. 1
C. 0
D. 2

Best of luck to you. Just so you know, a Chi Omega new member - pledge - must be involved in ONE quality activity...if that gives you any idea as to what the answer is.

ISU_XO 04-03-2001 03:36 PM

Is it 2? What was everyone involved in?

happyowl 04-03-2001 06:34 PM

I think I remember hearing three activities but it is probably two. So my final answer is 3

MaryMayXO 04-03-2001 11:24 PM

I am pretty sure it's 2 quality activities!!

persephone631 04-03-2001 11:52 PM

As and old director of campus activities Im going to guess two http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif wow one I actually know the answer to!

The answer is D. Chi Omega Active members are encouraged to be active in two quality activities outside of chapter. New Members only have to partake in one quality activity until after initiation.

Hootie 04-08-2001 11:43 PM

This is a tough one but should proove interesting.

How did our founders decide who would get what executive position...

A. Drew names out of a hat.
B. Drew straws Dr. Richardson held.
C. Alphabetically
D. Elections

MaryMayXO 04-08-2001 11:47 PM

I am going to guess B. I think I remember reading it.....

Chi O Cutie 04-09-2001 01:47 AM

I'm pretty sure that it is A. I think I remember reading that it was one of the girl's father's old hats.....

April

chiokate 04-09-2001 02:09 PM

i think the answer is B!! I think i learned that as a pledge!
