Favorite Things

What are your favorite silly or fun things about being a Sig Kap?

Mine is that our jewel is the pearl. I wear pearls all the time, and so does a friend in DZ. I tease her that I have more of a claim on them than she does, since they're our official jewel.

Drolefille 10-24-2006 01:09 PM

I love that our SLAM is actually a word! :p

I love purple and since lavender is purple and maroon is close I claim it as an unofficial SK color.

One Heart One Way baby! I know my sisters back me up! :D

And I ::heart:: our open motto! :p

Above the drama, above the fights, above the mandatory stuff you don't want to go to, I love being an SK because even if I don't like you, you're my sister and I love you. I'll do anything to protect you. You're family.

I love the pop songs we've converted into SK songs-it still makes me giggle to hear the SK version of 'hollaback girl' and 'get low'.

I love knowing that we're the second biggest contributer to alzheimer's research in the country.

You've heard Hot in Here right? I have it posted on the boards. There's also Dirty and I used to know Crazy. :D

I love that we hseem to have a national reputation for realness. That was one of our recruitment themes. We're real girls :D

Eve6's 'Here's to the Nights' came on the radio the other day, and I was stunned to realize that I no longer knew the real words - only the SK version!

Here's to the days and nights of fun
Here's to the memories yet to come
Here's to my Sigma sisters, always by my side.

That's how I am with the songs above.

Does anyone have the lyrics to Drops of Jupiter? My chapter sang it but I was computer girl and didn't learn it :(

ufdale 10-27-2006 02:16 PM

I love that I'm a part of someting that is bigger than just my chapter at my university!!! Since I've become a Sigma Kappa I've got in contact with Sigma Kappas from all over! My cousin is a SK at Central Missouri and I had no idea! Also my friends at U Nevada Reno have been telling me how their rush went (they're colonizing!). It's soo exciting and I can't wait to visit other chapters!

SigKapSweetie 10-27-2006 06:01 PM

You know, we have a chapter sister (she's actually my Twin) at UNLV for grad school...if you ever make it out that way, I'll make sure you have her #.

I love our colors and doves. What I can't say (for obvious reasons) is what I LOVE about our ritual. Very special and very meaningful.

I'll never forget pledging in. I just remember looking around and seeing every woman in that room and knowing they were my sisters and that we shared something no one else outside SK could possibly understand. A very special night.

I love how I can always find a sympathetic ear to listen to me when I whine even though I'm being a jackass half the time.

Yeah but I'm a jackass 95% of the time and it makes me feel better everytime you are because then I know I am in the right sorority, an organization full of dorks, klutzes and nerds :D I wouldn't change it for the world!

ufdale 11-06-2006 09:09 PM

I loved our ritual! It was so much more special, beautiful and meaningful than I ever thought it would be. I never expected it to be like that! I kinda guess I thought it would be like "our founders thought lavender was nice, and doves are pretty." IT WAS SOO AMAZING! :D

BetteDavisEyes 11-06-2006 11:39 PM

Did the glittery spandex suit work out ok? What about the sacrificial goat? I hope he's ok b/c I know that things can get rough during initiation. ;) :p

Oooh, how was the flaming coffin? I think ours is much more attractive than the one in The Initiation of Sarah.

Congratulations sister :)

Please do update us on the sacrificial goat. :D

Drolefille 11-07-2006 10:15 AM

Congrats!
(Did you have a hard time eating a violet while doing a shot of blood?)

I have mastered that move. Now, the one thing I have always had trouble with is the hand stand, back handspring, double turn with high leg-double twisting tuck jump.

Drolefille 11-07-2006 11:54 AM

I'm too old for that now. I'm glad alums only have to do a few cartwheels.

ufdale 11-07-2006 09:49 PM

I don't know about the sacrificial goat, maybe it's a florida thing, but we used a sacrificial dove instead. The blood was ok as long as you pretended it was koolaid (at least that's what my alum Sigkapsweetie said to do)

SigKapSweetie 11-07-2006 10:25 PM

I know you don't have anything to compare it to yet, ufdale, but the midget this year was fantastic!

UofISigKap 11-07-2006 10:33 PM

Okay, to bring the thread back to the original topic... (I'm amused though!)...my favorite part is the excitement when you randomly talk to someone and find out they're a sister, and you feel this special connection that makes you both smile!

I do enjoy this. I was sitting at a table drinking my soda when a random girl asked if she could also sit at my table. I smiled & said yes. Imagine my surprise when she pulled off her sweater & she was wearing a SK tanktop. She was a La Verne member & I'm an alum. We had a very nice talk before we both had to rush off to class.

REASON #25 (hint hint we're starting a pattern, fellow post whores)
I love our handsign! It looks cutesy and less like a gang sign.

I co-sign this (pun intended). Ours is so cute! I like both the heart/doves and the heart/doves/triangle, but the latter seems to come out better in pictures.

Drolefille 01-09-2007 05:11 PM

Reason #27

I love when a friend goes through rush and joins SK!

Reason #28

Your professor is an alumna of the Gamma Eta chapter at Ball State & proceeds to fascinate you with stories of her time as an undergrad SK! :D

BetteDavisEyes 02-03-2007 02:18 PM

I met an awesome alumna from a big southern chapter. She told me stories of rush in the mid 90's with over 1000 girls rushing. Really eye opening considering I'm used to rush of about 300-350 women.
