Bid Day at Ole Miss

Today is Bid Day at Ole Miss. Any updates?

OleMissGlitter 10-15-2006 08:01 PM

Quota was 92 and I am pretty sure all houses got 92 or more. I know AOII got 92! Everyone is super duper excited!

indygphib 10-15-2006 08:07 PM

Ninety-two for quota? That is incredible! Congratulations to all of the Ole Miss chapters!

Yes there were about 890 going through and there are nine houses. :)

GET EXCITED!

aephi alum 10-15-2006 09:29 PM

Congrats to all the chapters at Ole Miss. :)

92 for quota boggles my mind. Note that I come from a campus where total is 80. Any talk of expansion at Ole Miss? Sounds like they can support more than nine NPC sorority chapters.

I think that question gets asked every year........:)

The "barriers to entry" (to use a business term) at Ole Miss are enormous.

OleMissGlitter 10-15-2006 09:43 PM

not to get off the subject but there is talk to bring 2 new houses on...however, I don't think our Panhellenic has opened up for expansion yet...

DominoTheta 10-15-2006 10:28 PM

I haven't talked to my sister yet, so I'm not sure how many girls Pi Phi got. I was a few off, though, I thought quota was 95! I don't know where I got that number from...

OleMissGlitter, wasn't quota 86ish last year? Quota at Ole Miss just keeps going up every year! Congrats to your AOIIs! Impressive ladies!

I believe last year every house got quota and several got quota plus!

SigKapCoug 10-15-2006 10:30 PM

QUOTA IS NINETY TWO????

Thats bigger than my whole chapter!

AOIIalum 10-15-2006 10:34 PM

I know, the thought of quota that high does boggle the mind. What an amazing thing to have so many new sisters in one day! Congrats to everyone on what sounds like a fantastic recruitment.

PhiMuLady150 10-15-2006 10:49 PM

I knew two girls going through:

They are new members of Chi Omega and Delta Gamma!!!!

hottytoddy 10-16-2006 12:03 AM

My lil sis's little sister (confusing) was going though this year and pledged Phi Mu! Yea!

KSUViolet06 10-16-2006 11:23 AM

My friend from church camp is an Ole Miss DG, and she says they are thrilled with their new members. Lots of new people to meet!

OleMissGlitter 10-16-2006 01:12 PM

okay an update, I wrote it down wrong, quota was 91 and AOII got 93....my bad! Anyway, apparently all of the houses DID REALLY WELL!

I just have to get in this! I found greekchat in August when I googled on "release figures." At the time SouthernYankee and BamaDadDz were posting their stories about Alabama's rush--I have a DDD daughter who graduated Bama in 2005 and my younger child had several good friends going through rush there and I got hooked on this site! My younger daughter (I'll call her Baby Bird) was getting ready to go off to Ole Miss and was rushing-- since we are not from Mississippi and don't really know that many people I was a nervous wreck. Add to that surgery in early September that left me housebound for many weeks and you people became my best friends. The good news is that Baby Bird had a wonderful rush at Ole Miss and while she was a DDD legacy through her sister and a KD legacy through me, she did what was best for her and is now a very excited member of Chi Omega! One thing she kept saying throughout rush was that all the chapters have wonderful girls. I was a little undone by the delayed rush thing--after all, that is not how we do it in Alabama--but there are some very definite positives to doing it this way. Anyway, I just want to thank you all for providing me many hours of entertainment these past 6 weeks--and I thought I was the only one who loved rush....:-)

Welcome to GC! You fit right in with the people who love recruitment and stories. There's even an addicts thread for the dry spells. :)

Panhellenic families are fun too! Welcome, Baby Bird, to Chi Omega!

And we ARE Panhellenic! DDD and XO daughters, KD, AOPi, and Phi Mu nieces, plus one "step" niece who went Phi Mu at Ole Miss on Sunday. I am looking forward to a granddaughter or two who will automatically be a legacy to 2 great groups!

Jill1228 10-17-2006 01:47 PM

congrats! I added them to THE THREAD

Just wanted to let you I was still around - in fact I never left. As part of the GC group, I always peek in every other day or so. I continue to learn the unique ways of DZ at the University of Alabama. What a great bunch they have there! I met several DZs at their beautiful sorority house while attending a Bama football game - I thought I had died and gone to heaven there were so many lovely angels surrounding me.....

In any event, know that BamaDad DZ is still hovering and posting a thought here and there.

Well, BamaDad, you will have to know that I went through Kristen's rush with you and nearly broke my neck to get to my computer on Bid Day! Baby Bird had her little beak in Bama's rush way more than she should have because she has a ton of friends there, on both sides! I was really impressed that a Dad was so supportive! I hope Kristen is having a ball! Just beware: Tuscaloosa time and the rest of the world are not the same...My BamaGrad daughter still laughs about people who live on "Tuscaloosa Time" as opposed to old working women who have to live on "Real Time!"

olemissmom2006 10-17-2006 09:51 PM

My daughter is a Phi Mu at Ole Miss as of Sunday!! Oh so exciting for us!!

BamaDad DZ 10-17-2006 11:30 PM

I wish you all could see the grief I get from my Democratic lawyer friends in downtown Washington, DC (I'm the token Republican).

Why? Because they continually cut schools in the South as inferior, the culture languishing one hundred years in the past, sororities as elitist exclusionary organizations.

I really appreciate coming to this site where people believe in the privacy of association, tradition, and the virtues of Southern education and culture. Excuse me for venting but I heard another load of the stuff today. They are really nice folks but they stereotype horribly and their political bias rarely allows them to think outside the politically correct box.

My daughter loves DZ, the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and the people of the State of Alabama. I support my daughter and al the above 100%.

SEC Mom, and olemissmom2006, congratulations on a successful recruitment for your darling daughters. My DZ daughter's little sis (Kelly) is considering FSU and Ole Miss in two years - watch out for recommendation requests from the BamaDad DZ family.

And I apologize for venting once more, but I just get tired of the politically correct tidal wave washing over the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Can't these kids just have a little fun with their sorority sisters?

lsu_rosewhite 10-17-2006 11:34 PM

Congratulations to your Phi Mu daughter!!! She's going to have a great time. Let the fun begin!

SECMom 10-18-2006 09:46 AM

BamaDad Dz....I pm'd you

I loved living in DC, but I always lived in fear of getting jumped on my way to a Young Republicans meeting for those very reasons. ;)

Not all democratic lawyers feel this way! Or perhaps I am the token...;)

jhujenn 10-18-2006 11:20 AM

Heck, not all democrats feel that way.

FSUZeta 10-19-2006 08:30 AM

congratulations to the new members at ole miss and welcome to our newest gc members!!

a childhood friend of my daughter's pledged delta gamma at ole miss.

and bamadaddz, you can vent here anytime, actually, there is a thread in chitchat just for that. a cheap form of therapy, but oh, so effective!!

Now you'll have to get used to "Chi Omega" time. It's probably like "Alpha Gam" time...which is 15 minutes later than the real time.....

And once on Trading Spaces, they were doing a DG house with a clock with DG" time...yep...15 minutes later

carnation 10-19-2006 08:12 PM

And you'll also have to get used to picking up the ringing phone and somebody screams, "Hooty HOO! Oh. Sorry, I thought you were your daughter."

WhiteDaisy128 10-19-2006 10:06 PM

Delta Gamma got 94 amazing new members!! :D
