RW/RR Challenge: The Duel

Yes folks, MTV's newest RW/RR challenge premiered last night. Did anyone catch it? You know you all just LOVED Fresh Meat!

At least we can breathe a sigh of relief for this challenge -- no Coral, Mark, or Veronica!

Beth Stolarczyk : Real World 2: Los Angeles
Chris "CT" Tamburello: Real World 13: Paris
Aneesa Ferreira: Real World 11: Chicago
Brad Fiorenza: Real World 14: San Diego
Robin Hibbard: Real World 14: San Diego
Nehemiah Clark: Real World 16: Austin
Tina Barta: Road Rules 12: South Pacific
Wes Bergmann: Real World 16: Austin
Kina Dean: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Derrick Kosinski: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Jodi Weatherton: Road Rules 13: Xtreme
Tyler Duckworth: Real World 17: Key West
Paula Meronek: Real World 17: Key West
John Devenanzio: Real World 17: Key West
Svetlana Shusterman: Real World 17: Key West
Kenny Santucci: Fresh Meat
Diem Brown: Fresh Meat
Evan Starkman: Fresh Meat
Casey Cool: Fresh Meat
Eric Banks: Fresh Meat

I must say that Diem's amazing. She just finished her last round of chemo for her ovarian cancer and is up and competing already. Anyway, since it just premiered last night, I won't give away what she did in this episode. Totally cool.

And it's no surprise that Tina gets sent home. Why? She lays the smackdown with Beth. Getting kicked off the Duel is soooo worth it if it means Beth getting her ass beat.

Fresh Meat 2 is now casting, which means RR has been passed up once again. The next challenge starts filming soon...this time it's in Cape Town , South Africa.

epchick 10-14-2006 02:33 AM

No Veronica? Damn I could have SWORN I saw her on one of the previews.

1. I was thinking the same about Diem. What an inspiration she is to those out there. And I teared up when all the girls put swim caps on. Women need to stick together in times like that.

2. Saw the preview. CAN'T WAIT to see it!

SoCalGirl 10-14-2006 03:03 AM

I loved it! I have a feeling that they aren't sending Tina home though. I think it'll end up that it'll be similar to the Puck/David thing where Beth will demand that Tina stays because she wants to beat her in the Duel and then Tina will totally win and Buh Bye Beth!

In an ideal setting, maybe.

But we all know Beth is not gracious and noble. If Beth did demand that the producers let Tina stay, she's shooting herself in the ass because she knows she's at risk for getting yet another beat-down.

Tina's got the boot.

Also, does anyone watch the AfterShow on OverDrive? That isht's funny...especially Tina's from last night. She's a royal bitch but I love it how she tells it like it is and despite being brutally honest she still manages to get the support of many.

Gina1201 10-14-2006 07:13 AM

I really like Diem. She is a really strong and brave woman to compete right after chemo.

Tina and Beth?? I've been waiting for something like this to happen since her RW season. BTW, does anyone know Tina's background in terms of ethnicity. I've always been curious.

I think she's half white and half Thai.

Wikipedia says she's of Chinese and Vietnamese descent, which is odd because you almost always never hear of that Asian combo. Either way, she's hapa.

SSS1365 10-14-2006 10:15 AM

How did I not even know about this show??? Oh well, it's not like they won't re-run it 4894646 times.

SoCalGirl 10-14-2006 10:35 AM

I loved how Tyler was bragging at the start of the show that it'll pay off to be the gay boy that knows all the words to Madonna songs because the girls will want to keep him around longer. I was sitting on my couch ! Has the man ever watched a challenge???? I was not surprised in the least when he was the last man standing.

DSTCHAOS 10-14-2006 11:44 AM

My heart went out to Diem. I almost cried and I admire her bravery. She actually looked cute with the short hair, not like that is complete redemption, but whatever helps to make her not feel self-concious.

Beth is too old and she needs to do something else with her time. I had forgotten that she was from the 2nd season of RW. That's back when RW was genuinely good, I know the 1st season is when all the housemates actually had separate jobs instead of being forced to live and work together. Over the past years it's become more and more orchestrated and predictable.

Oh yeah...Tina is an idiot. Beth got what she wanted, even if she had a black eye from it.

I don't think she's back. I believe she retired right before Coral retired.

At the last Challenge reunion, Coral basically said that she (and, I guess, some others) have stopped bumping heads with Tina because it's been accepted that she's a hoe and a bitch (with no remorse). Once you accept someone as a hoe and a bitch there's not too much to squabble over.

I didn't know Coral retired, but it'd make sense if she did...the last challenge had her banged up really bad.

I was reading Wikipedia last night and it's interesting what kind of trivia you can find out. Apparently Mike the Miz, Mark from RR #1, and Eric Nies (RW #1) have all officially "retired" from the challenges. If you recall from the Gauntlet II, Mark gave his bandanna to Derrick saying, "From the first Road Ruler to the last Road Ruler, I give you my bandanna."

She announced that she was going to let it go, let the newer people take the spotlight, and get a real job.

That's cool that these old heads are making way for the new crew. They've made their "celebrity" and money from it. RW veteran college lecture tours were really big in the early-to-mid 90's.

Unregistered- 10-28-2006 02:19 AM

What I don't get are these challenge newbies choosing seasoned veterans/strong contestants for the Duel. Last week Tyler chose Derrick and last night Paula chose Aneesa.

WTF are you stupid? Sure, beating them would definitely boost your ego but we all know the newbies' ass gonna get beat!

DSTCHAOS 10-28-2006 10:15 AM

Watching weekend reruns....

Again, Diem rocks!!!

Again, Tina's an idiot!!! $150,000 worth!!!

RedefinedDiva 10-30-2006 01:00 AM

Tina is a damn idiot! If she was going to get kicked off, she should have beat Beth's ass! That one punch was wack. It barely landed. I don't (always) advocate violence, but I would have gotten my money's worth!

whiteandblack 10-31-2006 08:48 AM

nehemiah and beth?? o.k.

SoCalGirl 10-31-2006 12:42 PM

Actually it fits an Mtv pattern...angry/stupid white person gets "friendly" with a black person and viola the white person becomes more likable. Prime example is Coral and whoever happens to be the dumbest white boy on the show.

Last challenge, it was Coral and Abe. He was pretty smart as a rock.

KDAngel 11-11-2006 05:59 PM

I hate knowing the outcome before the season starts. It makes all the middle details make much more sense though.

Anyone else think that the boy's prizes are much better than the girl's? Like they got a trip for 2 and a motorcycle and the girls got golf clubs. Unless clubs are way cooler than I'm aware of, then that's no fun.

Then stop reading the RW/RR blog.

The Callaways the girls' winner got is worth a nice amount of money. Maybe not as much as a motorcyrcle, but definitely more than a trip for 2. Callaway drivers start at a little over $300, and I've seen others that start at $1000. You can do the math at its value. The winner will probably sell it for cash anyway. That's what Angela did with her Saturn after RR.

EXACTLY! She should have thrown at least one more - and a nice bitch slap would have been awesome.

I love how Beth stands around proclaiming "I didn't provoke her" -- hello, Queen Bitch, watch a re-run or two... or thousand since they are on all the time -- except when the 58092385490283 re-runs of "Yo Momma - NY" are on (but that's another rant for another day...)

I live for Thursday nights :o

Oh, Diem, dang girl - you DO look like a super model - when she took her wig off for that challenge, hubby & I couldn't believe how beautiful she really is! She needs to ditch the blonde wigs!

Wellllllllll...you know they do a lot of editing. From where I was sitting Beth didn't provoke Tina to the point of hitting her or losing 150K. Tina acted out of anger and retaliation for having to deal with Beth the Bitch all of these years. BUT BETH STILL WON.

She's lovely. The wigs and the blonde hair in general don't do her beauty justice.

Go, Big E!

CT is a big lug, but I think him and Diem would make a nice couple.

DSTCHAOS 11-17-2006 12:59 PM

I have always had a TV crush on Brad and CT. :o :p

Anyone else think that CT looks just like a young Christopher Walken?? Every time I see him, the image pops into my head.

Speaking of which (and COMPLETELY off topic) - is this for real?

That site needs more cowbell.

Glad that Nehemiah's gone. What will poor Beth do now?

Ever notice that when they edit the show as such to show TJ explicitly explaining the rules, that someone ALWAYS breaks them! They do it EVERY time on EVERY show (ie, past RW/RR shows) - if they show TJ giving the important details (like "YOU MUST GET THE FLAG" on the exile) then you know what's coming... which is why I was so freaking glad 'cause I knew Beth would screw it up :D

Since I DVR'd the show, I paused it on a scene from next week - looks like that's when Derrick & Big E go into the duel :( I like both those guys.

And can I just say "MEOW" at CT running on the beach during the challenge. Dang, I never realized he had such a hot body :o

sdbeta1 11-27-2006 05:47 PM

Finally, Beth is off the show. It is time to start enjoying the season. There will be some big time male duels coming up. Svetlana is making the female duels watchable.

It doesn't matter if Svetlana only won on a technicality...a win is a win and big old Beth is OUT! If I were Robin, Jodi, Kina, etc. I'd watch out for Svetlana because she could prove to be a strong player in the long run and I'm really glad that she wasn't ousted early like her Key West castmates!

sdbeta1 11-27-2006 06:08 PM

I definitely agree. Svetlana put in more effort, and showed more heart in the duel. Beth outweighed her which is the reason she was able to hang on, too bad she was too dumb to actually listen to the rules. If anyone wants a spoiler on the next episode they can find it on wikipedia.

I don't think I've ever seen two contestants go head to head like that before. In the end I wasn't sure who I wanted to win -- both Wes and Derrick deserve an applause for that Pole Wrestle!

whiteandblack 12-01-2006 04:43 PM

I agree. I think that experience was cathartic for wes.

*poor aneesa*

I really like Wes - keep in mind I never watched the regular RW/RR shows before, just the challenge shows, so he may be a big tool - I think he is a strong competitor, but DANG I wanted Derrick to finally win something. I am so freaking bummed that he is gone. Couldn't Wes have picked Brad or something? I guess I'm all in for Big E - he such a goofball.

I can't believe they showed Diem going into a challenge - wth? She is like the princess of the party - they shouldn't be picking her to go into the duel!!

And can someone PLEASE for the love of all that is Disney -- tell the producers to quit showing Kina dressed up like Minnie Mouse. She looks ridiculous in those clips. I am all in for her going home next - and Jodi to follow, just cause Jodi needs to do something with that hair other than a part down the middle & flat on both sides. Put some big glasses on her & she'd fit right in with the high school geeks.

sdbeta1 12-16-2006 11:06 PM

The remaining men's final four are all legit. Minus Evan who has yet to prove himself in an actual elimination round yet. Ive got Kina and Svetlana going into the next duel.

Am I the only one that cannot stand Kina? She makes me nuts to look at, listen to, etc.

AND WTH?! Why did Aneesa go & borrow Kina's "Minnie Mouse" look for one of the interviews?! I about fell into the floor over that one.

:( Big Easy :( I think Brad is the biggest doofus - I don't like him, and for the love of Pete those buggin eyes are about to kill me. I hope that Wes takes it all now - he is the biggest competitor of the group (although looking at CT - neck down - isn't all that bad) ;) Evan just likes to sit back & talk about how he's the one to beat - nah, he just teams up with the girls that can save his butt from each challenge :D

AXO Alum 12-22-2006 10:30 AM

Kina, you are a whiney loser - you lost - you deserved to lose - Spitz kicked your @$$ and you are going home. Deal with it & leave with some sort of dignity left. Oh - and PS, you say you have the strength and the power to win, but your body just gave out - making no sense now - the body usually does go out when there is no strength/power left, mmkay?

I want the girls winner to be either Diemn or Spitz (Aneesa would be fine too I guess) -- somebody please take Jodi & her constant bad hair look out of the game!
