OleMissGlitter 10-12-2006 10:19 PM

All is going well for the sororities. I heard about 890 women are registered and about 850 men are registered. (I could be wrong on the men's figures).

Tomorrow night is skit night!

olemissglitter, i know that you are swamped right now, but please come back when you can and let us know how aopi and everyone else did!!

Yay! I have a friend who is in DG there.

I actually had an opportunity to see the houses there once. They are all so beautiful.

It was really funny because I was showing her pics of our newest pledge class (of 18) This is considered a large class to us. She said, "Aww that class is so tiny and cute!"

Her pledge class apparently had 90-ish women in it! I asked her, "Well how do you get to know everyone?" She told me that you really can't truly *know* everyone but you know that they are your sister and you try to hang out with the chapter as much as you can so you can at least know everyone's faces. I know the chapters there do alot of sisterhoods and like mini mixers with the pledge classes (like Sophomore/Senior bowling, etc) to try and help people get acquainted.

All is going well so far! Skit parties are tonight! I'll let you all know how Bid Day goes on Sunday!

A friend's niece is a Panhellenic officer at Ole Miss and she's been fearing problems all week because there's a huge number of Chi O legacies this year. If so, I fear for the chapter because there's no way they can pledge them all....

This happened to a chapter at my school this year, with quota at like 15, they had enough legacies coming through that they could've filled an entire pledge class with them. Of course that couldn't happen, so there were some very upset XYZ legacies this recruitment. It isn't pleasant for them, but they have to make room for some non- legacy girls too...

OleMissGlitter 10-15-2006 08:02 PM

Quota was 91! AOII got 93! From what I've heard all of the houses made quota plus additions! Get excited! Lots of new members on campus!!!!

ETA: I wrote down my figures wrong...sorry that's what being sick does to you!

jhujenn 10-15-2006 08:05 PM

Wow!

SigKapSweetie 10-15-2006 10:36 PM

I come from UF, where quota is usually in the 50s-60s, and I can't even imagine a new member class half again as large as ours! What on earth do you do with 92 new members? How do you learn their names? You ladies at Ole Miss have my respect - I'm not sure I could do it!

MSKKG 10-15-2006 11:46 PM

Good job, Rebels! That's about a 93% placement rate (not counting quota additions)--fantastic!

Excellent point, MSKKG! Have things happened over the years to reduce the number / percent of dropouts? Wasn't there a time when -- at least in legend -- a good many Ole Miss PNMs would withdraw if they weren't invited back to ABC, DEF, or XYZ? (Whatever those might be for a given PNM.)

I had the same thought, and to think it is soooo hard to get a bid at Ole Miss :D There must have not been any Northern Girls participating in recruitment!!!! Opps...

Congrats to one of our very on GC's that just pledged AOPi.. I asked her to post her story...
Congrats to Dominotheta's sister, a new MS Beta!!!!
Congrats to PhiMuLady's friend.. my little cousin is a DG at Ole Miss!!!

Does anyone know where to find new member lists for all Ole Miss sororities?

That's at least one reason why Ole Miss rush was moved from at the beginning of the semester to when it is.

Great news for all the chapers at Ole Miss!

When I was membership chair, my advisor was a recent Ole Miss graduate, and it was her first advising experience. Within five minutes of meeting her, she asked me "So, how is rush at Emory? At Ole Miss, girls dropped out of school if they didn't get into a sorority. I'm guessing it's not like that here?" This was 20 (yikes!) years ago, so yes there was a time that this happened.

Ole Miss Bid Day Pictures on Student Paper Web Site

The Daily Mississippian Online ('dmonline') has a slide show of some Bid Day pics, FWIW (provided your setup will let you view a slide show).

The photographer didn't even get pics of KD, Tri Delta, AOII, Pi Phi, Theta, or Chi Omega....maybe next year!

IvySpice 10-17-2006 10:15 AM

If I recall my visit correctly, the houses they DID depict are all in a row on one side of the street, so it's understandable that a photographer would snap them all. Maybe the light was better facing that way. :)

There was one very cute pic that appeared to be of a legacy and her mom rushing to their house. That's an "awww!" moment. Anyway, I visited on a Sunday morning in the dead of winter, so it's fun to see pictures of the campus come to life.

SECMom 10-17-2006 12:47 PM

What about the fraternities? I heard that Sig Ep pledged a huge number of guys...

olemissmom2006 10-17-2006 10:00 PM

My daughter pledged with Phi Mu - she was just pickled "pink"!! My girlfriend whom is a Phi Mu legacy said "she must be bleeding pink!" My daughter enjoyed rush so much - she loved all the sororities but Phi Mu seemed like a perfect fit!

olemissnews 10-18-2006 12:47 AM

It is a great time to be a Sig Ep at Ole Miss right now. They got 98 new guys this year and not one bad guy in the entire group. The Mississippi Alpha Chapter of Sig Ep did better than any other chapter in the nation. They not only dominated all other fraternities on campus, but the entire greek system including all the sororities. I would be damn happy and proud if i was a part of the Sig Ep bid class because this is one group that will be making a big difference on the campus.

Okay, the entire chapters at U of Toronto number about 20 girls. :)

Congrats to your daughter and Phi Mu. I know she'll love it as much as I did!
