What kind of badge do you have?

My chapter is ordering badges and I was wondering what everyone has!
Does anyone still wear it on a regular basis (I'd love to get mine made into a necklace when I graduate)?
What was the most popular one of your pledge class?

Drolefille 10-12-2006 02:56 PM

I got the white gold with pearls in each corner. I'm not sure what the most popular was in our class. A lot of people got the scroll borders (which is pretty too). I don't wear mine currently, but would love to get it fitted for a necklace.

I don't wear much gold, so I took that into consideration.

SigKapCoug 10-12-2006 04:06 PM

Mine's the yellow gold with alternating pearls and garnets (or are they rubies? whatever).

BaylorBean 10-12-2006 04:10 PM

I have the plain gold scroll badge. We didn't have the SS and WG options when I pledged. I went with the plain one due to $ but plan to upgrade for my 10yr initiation anniversery. (Either all pearls or alternating pearl and garnet)

I think the most popular one was the pearl point, but I do remember a lot just getting the scroll badge too.

ufdale 10-12-2006 04:10 PM

Ooh I had a long debate over whether to get the alternating pearls and garnets or to get the pearls with the garnet points... I chose the latter. I liked the garnets because they looked like rubies and I just love rubies. Although I only wear silver, I think gold looks more formal so that's what I chose. Soo excited for my badge to come, but I heard they won't arrive till spring break. :(
Most of my sisters chose the alternating or the pearl one. Few chose the scrolls.

ufdale 10-12-2006 04:12 PM

Till spring break?!?!? Wow that's a while. We tried to get ours by initiation but I think that was only successful once while I was there. But we did get our badges either a few weeks later or begining of January.

How is your new member season going?

Sorry: Sterling Silver and White Gold

ETA: Ha ha beat you! :)

Drolefille 10-12-2006 04:14 PM

Sterling Silver and White Gold
:)

Drolefille 10-12-2006 04:16 PM

We wore our big's badges at initiation and then ours took a while to get in too. Depended on the pledge mom er.. VPNME... and how quick she was on that.

If I upgrade I'll probably go with Pearls and something else in the points or all pearls :D

I'm having an AWESOME time!!! This is our week of suspense and I get my big on Friday!!!! SOO excited!!! I'm leaving now to get another little present. So far I've gotten a board (for push pins), a photo album and a pillow!!! Each big makes the same thing for their little, but in the little's favorite colors, and attaches clues to who the big is. Our shoe hunt is on Friday (you all did shoe hunt too?) and then we're all going indoor skydiving on Saturday as a sisterhood social with our new bigs!!!

Drolefille 10-12-2006 04:56 PM

We did a yarn tangle where you'd follow the yarn to an object or piece of clothing, then the bigs would take turns revealing their object and occasionally messing with girls minds. If they thought that the little had figured it out, they'd swap with someone else and swap back after everyone was confused.

That sounds awesome! I did the sky diving thing once and it was so much fun!!!

We didn't do a shoe hunt or yarn tangle. We actually weren't told when reveal would be. We had this "meeting" where each of us had to go talk to the advisor alone. Ends up it really was the reveal and we walk into this dark room where all the sisters are in a big circle and you basically do a candle lighting where you walk around inside the circle with a candle and then your big jumps out and blows it out (puts her hand over it since we had to start using electirc). It was really cool.

_Lisa_ 10-12-2006 05:17 PM

I could've sworn that the alternating pin is reserved for something special & isn't intended for everyone? I'm pretty sure they are because I remember filling out my request form & I think it said something about that on there. I'll have to look it up later.

Anyway, I've got this one:

Drolefille 10-12-2006 05:25 PM

I think that's diamonds and rubies, not pearls and rubies/garnets

Ahh...thanks for the correction! :D

SigKapSweetie 10-12-2006 06:53 PM

I have the gold with pearls and 3 amethyst points. It's my family badge - my big, grandbig, and one of my littles have the same one.

ufdale, I'm glad to hear you're having such a good time! The skydiving sounds so cool! I really miss being a collegiate Beta Tau. When is initiation? If I don't have an exam that week, I'd love to come up.

ufdale 10-12-2006 07:26 PM

Depinning is November 3 and initiation is November 5!
My badge is the same as Lisas. I would have like to have gotten the family badge, but we get our bigs too late. I didn't know what my family badge was when I turned in my badge order.

Has anyone ever lost their badge?

ufdale 10-12-2006 07:27 PM

SigKapSweetie, which family are you in?

SigKapSweetie 10-12-2006 07:35 PM

I'm in the frog family, although I don't know if anyone who's still an undergrad member has that badge. I know Brooke bought the silver scroll badge instead; I don't know about the rest of the family.

Who's your big?

I know Heather M lost her badge a few years ago after chapter, but I don't know what she did to replace it. I do know that we searched that entire house, inside and out, after that chapter meeting. We even searched the balcony and the lawn!

BetteDavisEyes 10-12-2006 07:47 PM

I've got the scroll border badge in silver. I've been saving up to get the WG pin w/garnet points & pearls. I adore that badge.

stargrl272 10-12-2006 08:12 PM

I lost my badge. :( We were doing pledging in our suite and we had our pins inverted. When I leaned over to get my bag, my badge fell off my dress. I'm really sad cause I know it has to be in someone's bag or something like that, but I've been looking for it and sending out mass e-mails since then (and that was September 7) and no one has said they have it. So I'm ordering a new one.
Speaking of what kind of badge, mine was (and will be) white gold with alternating pearls and amethysts. I love it!

SigKapCoug 10-12-2006 08:39 PM

We do yarn tangle around a small section of the chapter house and some of the bigs choose to attach a family shirt or costume jewelry and hints. like for example she and i had matching t-shirts and mardi gras beads.

My little was 1000% convinced her big was someone else and kept telling everyone thats who she though it was, so we made up a bunch of clues that sound like the other sister, but apply to me too. my little was SO shocked to fiind out I was her big! haha.

Okay, back on topic.

I wish i had a WG pin but at the time my NM educator didn't know how to order it in WG. :( I've grown to like the YG, though.

SoCalGirl 10-12-2006 08:41 PM

I have the super basic one with chapter guard. We didn't have the SS option and WG was more than I wanted to spend.

ufdale 10-12-2006 08:59 PM

First when I arrive tomorrow we get our family shirts. Then we do the tangled string thing (across the whole house and outside) and then at the end of the string is a baby shoe (SHOE hunt). You then find your big with the matching shoe. I can't wait! I have no idea who my big is because my clues were rather vague: I love gators (who doesn't?!), I love the beach (yeah it's florida)... It's a good thing they were vague though because I totally would have stalked my potential bigs on facebook and would have had it figured out by now! I just love how they hand made everything... so cute!

SigmaKappaRoyal 10-12-2006 09:01 PM

in our chapter the bigs decorate a candle for their little. in some families they decorate it the exact same way every year for every little. then they have all the new members get in a circle facing out and light their candles, and then all the actives (whether they have a little that time or not) surround the new members in a circle facing in. then the actives walk counter clockwise and sing "it only takes a spark" and we walk round and round the new members. everyone fakes blowing out new members candles, and at some point the real big blows out her real little's candle. it's funny because no one does it at the same time so you eventually are left with a few girls circling one or two final girls who are confused because they don't seem to have a big yet!

iastategal 10-12-2006 10:24 PM

My badge is the yellow gold pin, with pearls and the 3 amethyst points.

ufdale 10-12-2006 11:21 PM

Do you all know if there was an "original" badge? Or what the founders had?

_Lisa_ 10-13-2006 08:32 AM

The first badge design was what we now use as the New Member pin:

http://www.sigmakappa.org/about/images/pledgepin.gif

But in 1894 the triangle badge was chosen, I believe with the scroll edge, although I'm not sure if it was gold or silver.

Drolefille 10-13-2006 09:08 AM

I suspect gold as the silver and white gold seem to be newer additions.

BaylorBean 10-13-2006 09:44 AM

This is making me want to buy a new badge!!! (only two more years, two more)

PSUSigKap 10-13-2006 01:16 PM

i was initiated with my grandmother's all pearl badge. when my cousin got initiated, i passed it on to her, and got my own all pearl badge. my chapter didn't give us a choice for some reason so i also have the scroll edge badge.

my family (biological ;)) all have the all pearl badge.

Yes, YG scroll edge was the first triangle badge. Pearled badges were approved in 1915 when we decided on a jewel. I don't know when other stones came about.

The current VPNME said she only gave the NMs a choice of gold gloss or sterling silver because she didn't want to overwhelm the NMs with the cost of a jeweled badge. Sounds kind of silly to not even TELL them about it. If they don't have the money or don't want to spend the money then fine, but at least tell them that it is an option.

I am the only one in my chapter to have a jeweled badge. My badge is WG, with pearls and amethyst points. http://thumb17.webshots.net/t/50/550...7HXRbmH_th.jpgWe have a pearled badge that the president wears during her term, but everyone else has a gold gloss or SS scroll. When I joined, everyone before us had just gold scroll, but I told my pledge mom that I wanted a jeweled badge, so I got one. She made some sort of mistake ordering badges that the first half (alphabetically) of our pledge class got SS, so after that, the NMs got a choice of gold gloss or SS.

BetteDavisEyes 09-22-2007 11:01 AM

Now that I have this great job and we're definitely financially stable, I'm going to buy myself a new jeweled badge. I want a white gold badge with pearls and amethysts since the amethyst is my birthstone.

SigKapAngel767 09-22-2007 04:45 PM

Man, I wanna new badge. Maybe for Christmas?:o They are all beautiful to me...I wish I had more opportunities to wear mine.:)

MUSK81 04-20-2010 02:40 PM

I got the yellow gold with pearl points, as did most of my pledge class. The pearl with garnet points was popular in my chapter, but my parents were paying for it and I knew they wouldn't spring for something fancier. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten yellow gold with all pearls. I never wanted the garent points, because they ddn't mean anything.

BetteDavisEyes 04-25-2010 06:19 PM

For my 30th birthday, I got the white gold badge with alternating amethysts & pearls. I also got the matching chapter guard with all pearls. It's stunning and I adore it. The perfect 30th present.

UofISigKap 04-25-2010 08:07 PM

I have the plain scroll edge pin. I would love, love a pretty jeweled older badge. I thought it would be amazing to have an alpha chapter badge, but I am wondering would there be ANY beta or gamma triangle badges? It would only be a three year window though, and they would have had to purchase a new badge since it wasn't an option when they initiated.

BetteDavisEyes 07-01-2010 11:53 AM

Now that I have the badge I want, I'm thinking something else. I want a few things to add to my Sigma Kappa jewelry collection. I'd really like the amethyst cushion ring in white gold. It's almost $300 though. Hmmm...how to convince the hubby. Anniversary gift? Christmas gift? Graduation gift?

BabySnake128 09-01-2010 09:42 PM

Did any of your chapters utilize chapter guard pins?? No one in mine (Upsilon) has had one for years, but I think they are sweetly old-fashioned and I sorta want one!
