SwtSerenity's Recruitment thread
After many months of anticipation, rush is finally here. After attending the info night, I am more excited and nervous than ever. I decided not to disclose my location but I shall reveal it in the end.
There are nine houses on my campus and they will be named after flowers: Rose Lily Orchid Carnation Daisy Sunflower Tulip Iris Periwinkle Tomorrow is the first day of rush, so I will update when I get the chance. Ahh! I have to get back to studying because one of my midterm is on Tuesday. |
Good Luck with rush, and your midterm...I can't believe midterms are already starting.Feels like i just started the semester.(gota a lot of studying to do,eek)...
I love the flower idea, and i love carnations and roses soo i'll be cheering for the two.:) |

|
Good luck!

Good luck to you!!!
|
Good luck with recruitment and midterms!
Since my flower isn't there (violet), I'm gonna have to go with my next favorite, the Rose |
Thank you all for your support; it means a lot to me since none of my friends or roommates are rushing.
The midterms don't actually begin til another week or so. However, for this specific class, it starts earlier. It's going to be a tough week, but it will be worth it in the end. I'm off to bed early to get ready for my extremely long day tomorrow. :) |
Best of luck with rush, and study hard when you can!
|
I added you to the list

Good luck! There's a possibility you're at my alma mater (a pretty big possibility) so I'm excited to hear your story!

Good luck tonight! |
it has been an extremely long day. the good news is that i had so much fun. i didn't expect it to be this enjoyable. all the girls from each house are amazing.
i was nervous at first, but once i got into the houses, i had normal conversations with the girls which made me excited even if my shoes were killing me. ROSE: the first house we visited. i didn't know what to expect, but i was pleasantly surprised. we were greeted with chants and a member linking arms with me as i walked in. i loved this house because the girls were so nice and the conversation never died. i was shocked when it was time to leave because i was having such a good time. LOVE THEM!! LILY: i enjoyed the conversation just as much as i enjoyed it at ROSE. each girl that i was paired with had so much energy that it just rubs off. i walked out with such a big smile. LOVE THEM! ORCHID: i was disappointed because i had to share the girl i was paired with (another member of my rho chi was with me). the sorority member was so distant with the conversation which got me even more disappointed espically when the sorority member along with rho chi girl had their hometowns in common. i felt out of place in the conversation. it picked up a bit when they switch the girls around, but then it was time to leave. LIKE THEM. CARNATION: this house was so humid that i felt like i was melting. the girl that i was paired with only talked about her sorority which was nice, but i wanted to know more beyond that. i wanted to have that free flowing conversation along with the fact of the sorority. i can't really see myself here. DAISY: i had so much in common with the girl i was paired with; we talked about everything. even the other two girls that i was paired with was awesome. i came out with a smile. LOVE THEM!! SUNFLOWER: there were so many girls paired with one member of the sorority, but it was nice because i had a lot in common with her. LIKE THEM TULIP: i had so much in common with all the girls i talked to in this house. just thinking about them makes me happy. they are an awesome house. LOVE THEM!! IRIS: strangest house ever. the girl i was paired had bad eye contact and very forced conversation. even when i was paired up with another girl, she was almost the same but to a lesser extent. i was diappointed. PERIWINKLE: the last house of the night. everyone was losing thier voice. i was so tired that if i sat down, i would fall asleep. however, i had excellent conversations with all 3 girls that i was paired with. i love their decorations so much. it was way too cute. LOVE THEM!! after reading my entry, you probably have a feel for what houses i chose to go back to tomorrow. from nine houses to six. i can't wait til tomorrow even if it will be a long night as well. i'm scared that i'm getting my hopes too high... but, I LOVE RUSH! so i'll be optimistic and not let anything hold me back. :D |
wow sounds like ur having fun! im glad u liked so many of the houses :) i had an experience similar to "orchid", where another girl from my group was paired with me. personally i didnt like it that way. cant wait to see what happens tomorrow..good luck and bandage up those feet! :)
|
Yes, soak those feeties and get ready to roll!!! Have fun!
|
Glad you had a good time! Sending you good like vibes for tomrrow (well today) :)

double recruiting
Sounds like the panhellenic did a good job "recruiting" for recruitment. And that maybe your college is having a larger recruiting class then normal. Or just some of the chapters are a tad smaller then the others, thus leading to double recruiting.
Usually, when there is more then one pnm to a sister that means that the parties are bigger then the chapter (or at least bigger then the chapters recruitment group) so the chapter has to "double recruit." This is something that must be practiced or what happened at Orchid happens. Sometimes double recruiting works well with a three way conversation about whatever, but if the "double recruiting" breaks down then the conversation ends up being about one of the pnm's, leaving the other one out. HAVE A GOOD TIME and here is my advise to you - be the "easy rushee." Be the girl that everyone wants to meet, because you are so easy to talk to. This way you have your choice of sororities. - Either way HAVE A GREAT TIME. (I'm for Periwinkle - mostly because I like saying periwinkle.) |
[QUOTE=(I'm for Periwinkle - mostly because I like saying periwinkle.)[/QUOTE]
that made me laugh inside :) lol |
i'm home!!
i was disappointed that i didn't get asked back to LILY and i'm fine with not going back to ORCHID since i had such a great time at the other houses. however, the good news is that i was invited back to the maximum number of houses which is 6!! ROSE IRIS TULIP CARNATION PERIWINKLE DAISY CARNATION AND IRIS were my 2nd and 3rd choices last night while the others were my #1's. the rho chis were telling us that the average houses girls get invites back are 3! i was shocked to hear that... anyways, first house was ROSE. i could really tell that these girls have a great bond with each other. a sorority member talked about her big sis and the big sis started to cry and it made me want to cry. once again, i ended up being paired with another PNM. this time, it was spirit night so we got to sit down. the downside is that the other PNM got to sit next to the sorority member and was blocking me from her. how awful was that??!! she did that throughout the whole time. it really got me upset, but i spoke up and i still had the oppurtunity to chit chat. i hope i get invited back because i love this house so much. IRIS: they had technical difficulties with their slideshow while they were singing and chanting. i understood, but the vibe was so different from ROSE that it turned me off. the first member i talked to was nice, but the second--i had so much in common with her. however, i cannot see myself in this house at all. TULIP: my favorite house!! i enter in with a big smile, i come out with a bigger smile. this house is awesome!!!! i get along with all the girls and the conversation is amazing. their song + dance was so cute and loud. i loved every minute of it and was extremely sad to leave. i can totally see myself here!! i have so much in common with each girl that i talked to that it was unbelievable. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!! CARNATION: i don't really have much to say about this house. it was okay; they have really nice girls, but it's not a home for me. PERIWINKLE: this house is has the best decorations compared to all the other houses. it's too cute for words. I LOVE IT!! i love talking to the girls in this house because i always have so much fun telling stories with the members. they are awesome!! they're so outgoing and enjoyable. i can totally see myself here. LOVE THEM!! oh--and they had the cutest cookies ever!!! DAISY: once again, i was paired up with another PNM. the 1st girl we talked to lost her voice. i felt so bad because she did her best talking to us but i could barely hear her even if i was a foot away. i get along pretty well with the PNM that i'm paired with, but i rather have one on one. the 2nd member was so cool. i really like her. our conversation flowed pretty well and she was exteremly nice and always had a smile on her face. however, i not sure how i really feel about this house. i can't really see myself here too well compared to the other houses i'm in love with. LIKE THEM. we narrowed our choices down to 4 along with a 2nd and 3rd choice. i chose: 1st: TULIP, ROSE, PERIWINKLE, DAISY 2nd: CARNATION 3rd: IRIS also, i really hate that the other PNMs base the houses they want on what they hear around campus. i believe they should go in rush with an open mind and give every house a chance. i don't understand how one person can base their choice on what others say. its just sad. thank you to those that are wishing me luck through this process; i'm having so much fun!! i can't wait til tomorrow! goodnight! |
I am so happy your having such a great time! Congrats on your invites!
And congrats to you on not listening to campus opinions of hte houses! Hopefully you'll end up i nthe best plae for you no matter what others have to say about where you end up! |
I'm glad to see that you are going through with such a good attitude, because you are going through with an open mind, and you have several chapters where you think could be home. Good luck with the rest of recruitment! I can't wait to hear the ending!
|
Good luck! And I must echo other GCers that you are not listening to the tent talk or skuttlebutt around campus.
And, way to go on getting your max # of invites back! Have a great time!! |
(Using Periwinkle-type color to thrill ADPi Conniebama!)
Good work, getting the max invitations - AND not getting involved with "tent talk"!! Hope you keep up your streak and end up catching the bouquet of your choice!! |
Sounds as if your recruitment is going well...may it continue and may you find the house of your dreams!
|
You have such a great attitude! I also commend you for thinking for yourself; it's so important to base your decision on how the girls mesh with you rather than how other girls meshed (or didn't!) with a house. I'm sure any house would be lucky to have you as their sister. Good luck, have fun, stay positive, and I hope you find your home soon! :)

Congratulations! Keep an open mind all the way.....

i have bad news...
i only got invited back to 3 houses and none of the 3 are my very favorite. i'm so disappointed that i am absolutely lost of words. i'm shocked. i guess my connection with the houses that i fell for did not feel the same way. the down side of rush i suppose. i lost all hope to continue through this process but my rho chi emphasize that i should give the 3 houses that i was invited back a try. i am a optimistic at heart, but i wore my heart on my sleeve and look where it got me. i decided to continue rush and see the 3 houses that wanted me back: CARNATION, DAISY, and IRIS. i have no comments about any of them because i continue to have the same mind set about CARNATION AND IRIS. however, i liked DAISY the first day but i'm just not sure anymore. my mind is all bundled up and i'm just so lost. i told myself when i signed up for this process that i would not let it get to me. i shall be strong and not shed a tear for i know that if it was meant to be, it would've happened or it will. i have not yet make my decisions on attending pref night. if i do, when i recieve my little paper listing what houses asked me back; if DAISY is not on there, i refuse to go on with the process. i know the girls in CARNATION really like me, but i just can't see myself being a sister. i would like to say thank you to all those that encouraged me and read my story. i will keep you posted if i decide to attend pref. |
oh no..
I am soo sorry that you didn't get the invites you wanted back. If you feel so strongly about not going to the other two houses. I would say you shouldnt attend but I would suggest giving DAISY another chance and attending their pref night. Also, talk about this situation to your recruitment counselor. You never know you might surprise yourself and see something more with this house. Just keep your positive attitude, and later if you still don't feel comfortable, then consider otherwise. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!
|
to add to the confusion, i would go slightly against lilchiolady's advice, and say to attend all three prefs. often at prefs., the choices become clearer to the pnm.
you do not have to put all three sororities on your bid card(no matter what your rho chi might believe)-you do not even have to sign your bid card, should you continue to feel that the sororities are not the right fit for you. if you go thru prefs. you will at least have seen the entire formal recruitment process and might be less likely to always wonder "what if?". supporting your decision no matter what. |

Sorry things took a turn, but I'd echo what others have said...attend any and all prefs that you're invited to, and put what you know is best for you on your bid card or don't sign one at all...I truly believe that prefs can decide things for you...but once again, you know what is best for you and what will make you happy! My thoughts are with you!
|
I hope you'll attend all three prefs. Don't get hung up on the only place where you can see yourself. Clearly these women have seen something in the sorority to want to be members and they have seen something special in you. Can you see yourself being friends with these women and working on projects together that benefit the sorority, community, university and each other? Look for a few where you'd be happy. Only list the chapters on your bid card that you would accept a bid from. This may mean all 3, or only 1. Or it may mean you drop after prefs. Is it better to not be in a sorority at all? That is up to you. There are women who get their lower-ranked choices and who, after a few weeks or months can't imagine life any differently. Others get their top choice and are miserable. Or vice-versa. I think your sorority experience is what you make of it. Do remember that you've had extremely limited interaction with the sororities-- a few minutes of random conversation and entertainment at each house. Recruitment is a rush of activity-- give these ladies all a fair shake and see how you feel. The rejection of the chapters you liked may be lingering and affecting your feelings, which is normal. As hard as it is, don't take it personally. Cuts happen for a variety of reasons: grades, year in school, too many PNMs and not enough time. You can still be friends with the people you have met and no one can take away the experiences you have had this week. Good luck!
|
The motto here on GC seems to be "it only takes one." If there is/are still chapter(s) that you would at least give a chance to on your schedule, then you should stick it out. It might be discouraging to have fewer choices, but in the end you can only join one sorority. Good luck with the rest of recruitment and keep your chin up.
|
I'm going to repeat what was said before me, but definately go to all of the prefs. After that you are under no obligation to list houses you're not interested in, or sign a bid card at all. But Pref can be a MAJOR influence. It can confirm that you don't fit in, or change your mind and show you that you do.

i'm not sure it will help but please see this thread:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=80889 I posted a rush thread for my good friend a week or so ago. She found herself in almost your exact situation. She was dropped from her 2 top faves and was close to quitting until her Rho Chi insisted that she keep going. She is now the happiest new member I've ever seen. If you happen to see this post before you make your decision, please read this thread. It may really help you. |
