My little (biological) sister is starting recruitment today! Due to the relatively small number of schools who are still recruiting for the fall, I'm not going to say what school she's at or provide a lot of details until recruitment is over.

She's heard me talk about what an incredible time I had as a member of my sorority in college and she's really excited. Last spring (she's a sophomore), she participated in informal recruitment and was really focused on one house, but could only attend one event at that house, so she didn't receive a bid. I encouraged her to try formal recruitment and to keep an open mind about all of the houses.

I'll let you know a bit more after I talk to her tonight or tomorrow. :)

Unfortunately, no. There isn't a chapter of Alpha Chi at her school. :(

Oh My, I sure hope she has a great experience and finds a sisterhood to call home! I hope you can call her sister and "panhellenic sister" too!

Well the upside to the situation is that she won't feel pressured to pick Alpha Chi and you can be more unbiased. Things won't be awkward like they could potentially be if there were a chapter of Alpha Chi at her school. Good luck to your sister, I hope she finds a great place to call home!

Last night, my sister and the other PNMs went on house tours. I was only able to talk to her for a little bit last night, but she told me that her opinions on the chapters changed a lot from last Spring. Of course, I'm going crazy not knowing what that means. :)

She's visiting me this weekend and we're going shopping for a pref dress. :) And, I'll be grilling her for details on the house tours and her new opinions.

House Tours
 

Okay, I finally got the scoop from my sister. And I also realized that I didn't establish any code names. I love Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and there are 5 houses at my sister's school, so:

Ted
Kyan
Thom
Carson
Jai

As I said earlier, she went on house tours on Thursday. Here's what she thought:

Ted - Very stereotypical sorority. She felt like everything was posed and unnatural. She just didn't feel comfortable in this house.

Kyan - Really liked this house. She had a lot of good conversations with the sisters during the tour and felt very at ease.

Thom - Liked this house, but their GPA requirement is really high and she's just below their cutoff. :(

Carson - Just like Kyan, she really liked this house. Again, conversations seemed easy and natural.

Jai - Despite really loving this house last year and participating in informal recruitment there, she didn't get the same good feeling this time around. It was "okay" but not great.

She's keeping a really open mind and is very excited for next week (as am I!) :D

There are three rounds. Bid Day is next Saturday.

Round 1
 

Round 1 was last night and I was only able to talk to my sister for about 2 minutes this afternoon. Here's how she ranked the houses last night:

1. Kyan - She said, "I absolutely love Kyan. I talked to a gazillion of them last night."
2. Jai - She said, "I had a good night at Jai so they're back in the top"
3. Carson
4. Thom
5. Ted

I'll talk to her some more tonight and get the rest of the details. She's having so much fun! :)

Round 2 is tomorrow night.

Good luck to your sister, I'm glad she's having fun! I pretty much hated formal recruitment and am not sure if I was having fun or not, but it certainly is always an exciting time. I hope she continues to have fun throughout!!!

Okay, I got some more details from her tonight.

Ted - Meet a lot of girls, but felt awkward. A lot of stalled conversation.

Carson - Really cute movie night theme. Didn't talk to as many people as she wanted to.

Kyan - Talked to a lot of people. Really cute interactive theme to get to meet people. One person that she met introduced her to lots of people. Everyone rememebered her name and she felt really comfortable.

Thom - Kind of boring theme. Not much else to say.

Jai - The sisters sang a song when the PNMs came in, and it was really fun. Realized that she knew a lot of girls from her old major. Felt really comfortable. Much better than last week.

I won't have another update until Thursday (since Project Runway and Lost are on TV tomorrow night :D ).

You listed Ted twice... which one should be Jai?

Oops... I spend 9 hours a day on my computer for work... Too much computer time!

The 2nd "Ted" is Jai. I'll make the edit now. :o

Good News and Bad News
 

First, the bad news: My sister was dropped from 4 houses. :(

The good news? She was invited back to Kyan, her #1 choice! :D

She also had a really good reaction to getting cut so heavily. Although she was surprised she wasn't invited back to Jai, she was still very happy to go back to Kyan.

Honestly, I think I was more upset that she was. I don't have any particular connection to any of the other houses, but I just wanted her to have as many options as possible.

Anyway, she had a really good time at Kyan last night. She got to know a lot more about the house and she's really excited about it.

Preference is tomorrow night.

Yay!!! I'm so happy for her invite back to Kyan!

Well, my sister and I are going hind of crazy b/c a friend of her's who was also going through recruitment got The Call from the coordinator of Greek Life. The friend was invited back to two houses on Wednesday (including Kyan) and was dropped by both today. :(

*crossing my fingers that my sister doesn't get The Call*

Would she have already gotten "The Call" if she wasn't going to be going to pref tonight?

Well, I just heard back from my sister (she IMed me about her friend while I was at lunch and then she had left for class when I got back)... Her friend got The Call this morning and Pref is in two hours, so I think my sister is okay. :)

good luck to your sister! it sounds like kyan would be a really good fit for her. keep us posted-we're dying to hear out it goes!

A really quick update b/c I'm running late!

Pref was last night. My sister said the ceremony was really beautiful. She's so excited/nervous.

Bid Day is in just under an hour! Unfortunately, I'm going to be out for the afternoon, so you'll all just have to wait to find out what happens! :)
