Heroes

Anyone else watching? I thought it was going to be like the 4400, but it's still different enough that I'm totally into it.

jon1856 10-03-2006 12:57 PM

I was hooked from day one;)
My first thought was DC/Marvel meets X-Files.

OtterXO 10-03-2006 01:11 PM

I was forced to watch this last night and I liked it! I'm not usually into sci-fi but this is good. We'll see if it holds my attention! :)

Sistermadly 10-03-2006 08:17 PM

Love it, love it, LOVE IT! It's the best new show of the season.

Question, did they introduce the cop in Episode 1? Or was last night the first time we saw him?

And another question -- can someone explain the Vegas chick's powers? I know she has that alter ego in the mirror...but I just don't get it.

Evidently she has the mirror alter ego that makes things happen for her in the real world. I'm not sure if they're things she imagines and then they happen or if the alter ego has a mind of her own...... the car thing was creeptastic though...eek.

ETA: I can't remember about the cop. :)

Last episode was his debut. I wish they stayed on him for a bit more.

As for the mirror thing, it was really creepy. I didn't want to look at the mirror after that. But apparently, it is her alter ego. Although, I have a sneaky suspicion that it's this character "Silas" using her.

Unregistered- 10-03-2006 09:38 PM

I also have a sneaking suspicion that Mohinder's female neighbor (the one who called his dad 'Papa') is one of "the bad people" just like Claire's adopted dad.

And fun fact: Greg Grunberg, who plays the LA cop with the sixth sense -- he played the pilot of the ill-fated Oceanic Airways Flight 815 on LOST.

I thought this might be of interest to you LOST addicts as well, courtesy of my friend Ryan (the LOST podcast dude) who's also becoming obsessed with Heroes:

Quote:

I swear, I've got "LOST" on the brain. There are lots of shows that are derivative of "LOST," of course, but whether or not it was intentional, there were several echoes of ABC's sci-fi series in NBC's effort here.

Characters from different backgrounds and regions brought together unexpectedly but demonstrating several crossover points in their history. Distinct character types: analytical Middle Eastarn man (Sayid/Mohinder), tough but sexy lady likely on the run for murder (Kate/Niki), self-doubting cheerleader blonde with parent issues (Shannon/Claire), Asian male with subtitles (Jin/Hiro), conflicted artist with a drug problem (Charlie/Isaac), and it goes on and on... a kid, a reluctant hero, a tough, kick-butt brunette... mysterious powers, conspiracies, and there's even a comic book that'll likely prove central to the story.

Of course, one thing that seems apparent in "Heroes" that we don't have in "LOST" is the willingness to get the basic mysteries out there quickly. If "Heroes" were really following the "LOST" model, it'd be Season 2 before the comic book showed up, Season 3 before the armageddon painting, and Season 4 before the different "heroes" formed a distinct group and worked together. Instead, looks like they're going to skip a lot of wandering around and get to the basic arc quickly.

At least until the show takes off and they need to suddenly fill four seasons.

Understanding we saw the pilot, and not a typical episode, I can't pick on some things... like continuity problems (it seems they filmed two different Mohinder's dad's apartment scenes but used both), extensive exposition, and stilted dialogue. This stuff gets ironed out in any show as it hits its stride.

So, as a "pitch," I liked it. I liked the reveal about Claire's family, about the two brothers, and I liked Hiro's character (although the argument about sameness and being Japanese was pretty contrived). Some I don't care for yet, but it's hard to judge in one episode. The armageddon painting was okay, but it seemed very "Dead Zone" to me... so I hope it's not the arc of the whole series, perhaps just the first season (if even that).
I wonder how Hiro and the rest of the "Heroes" (tee hee) will get together to prevent November 9th from happening?

Cop-As far I recall, this is the first time for him.
Vegas-a major split personality? Something to do with electrical power...stay tuned....maybe something like what ever and who ever the killer is.....related????

Ep. 2 was his debut.

Ali Larter recently said in an interview that you'll find out more about Nikki's powers in episodes 4, 5, and 6. My thought is that she's kind of like the Incredible Hulk. She gets angry and this other personality takes over.

SATX*APhi 10-05-2006 01:56 PM

I watched this show the other night with a friend of mine because there was nothing else on and we just didn't get it. Totally weird.

ms_gwyn 10-05-2006 02:17 PM

I love this show.....

Yea this was the first appearance of the cop....

Sylar.....an interesting character that I would like to me (if we haven't met him already)

SoCalGirl 10-10-2006 02:06 AM

The cheerleader really needs to quit getting herself killed! That end was so very freaky.

That was the best ending. Like they so went there. I was thinking her dad or someone saved her and then we see she's in the middle of an autopsy. I can't wait to see how they handle this story line. LOVE IT! What a creepo guy she liked though.

SoCalGirl 10-10-2006 03:09 AM

I kept expecting for her to have super human strength (ala Buffy) and shove him off of her. But then I was also expecting him to reveal to her some crazy super power of his own.

Well she was driving a car in next week's preview, so I guess we know she makes it out okay!

I really like Hiro's character and the artist. The senator and his brother kinda bug me.

My stupid DVR recorded the last few moments of Deal or No Deal and because of that I missed the last couple seconds of Heroes.

I tried watching the episode on NBC.com, but I can't get it to work. Can someone PLEASE fill me in on what happened after Peter and Simone kissed? What do the previews look like for next week?

DVR SUCKS.

Hummmm-Do you watch CSI? Well, think what would happen if a body woke up right after the doctors got done with it looking for COD.

Too bad for that Medical Examiner! I can't wait to see how she'll explain this one to those around her. I wonder if she's going to be exposed and the other heroes will have to step in and save her? Most importantly, I wonder if they'll finally get that stupid blonde cheerleader chick to shut up about saving that man in the fire?

And while Niki and her son are in the middle nowhere, how convenient was it to have a cop car following her like that. Did she not know she was being followed? And who's Mr. Lindeman again? The guy she borrowed money from, right?

That Syler character is downright creepy. I just wonder what connection he has to Claire's adopted father.

I love Super Hiro! He's the best character by far. :)

I agree. He brings life into what otherwise would be a very dark show.

And as much as I love Milo Ventimiglia, I can't help but groan everytime the focus shifts back to him and the bro. His storyline's just so...boring. I loved how he punched him in the end, though. What kind of brother does that?

Somehow I have this feeling that their power is going to be sort of a "wonder-twin" type deal. That they both have to do it together in order for it, and them, to work.

If so, story line could get a bit interesting.

That would be so limiting though. What if one bro isn't around? Then the other is screwed out of his power? Besides, we know the older bro can fly. Doesn't the younger one just kind of levitate?

IIRC, the only times that the Brothers "powers" worked were when they were near each other.

Limiting-perhaps. But if that is the case, seeing them over come their personal problems would be the interesting part. And the fact that they have to be together would mean a major change in their lives.

Very true especially since the older one is running for office. That would be good to see what changes it brings about for him. I remember when Hiro time-warped to New York, weren't there ads or something on TV (can't remember) that proclaimed he had won his seat in the Senate?

IIRC-Front page of newspaper.

I can't wait for them to start meeting one another & discovering and sharing their powers.

My husband yelled "Well of course!!!" when that was said in the previews. Pretty funny, only in a comic book esque show! :)

I am really enjoying the show so far.

So what's up with the tattoos? Are they really secret test subjects and not really genetic anomolies (sp?)?

SoCalGirl 10-17-2006 02:36 PM

I missed the tatoos somehow???

Yeah for Future Hiro!!!!

I missed the pilot. Did they explain how the heroes got their powers.

The cheerleader looked familiar. I finally placed her. She was the coach's daughter in Remember the Titans.

No. There's speculation by the Saresh guy that there were some sort of either genetic mutations or the next step in evolution. Other than that, we really don't know.

My husband said the same thing about the cheerleader. I had to laugh when I realized he was right.

I HATE MY DVR. It's the second week it taped the last part of Deal or No Deal and it cut off at a critical part of Heroes.

Luckily I was able to watch the end on nbc.com -- but what's happening next week?

BetteDavisEyes 10-18-2006 12:23 AM

I'm back on now. I missed GC.

Anyway, next weeks preview showed Peter Petrelli with the funky gray eyes like he's in a trance. My hubby thinks that he's like Rogue from X-Men in that he can borrow or steals the powers of those around him that also have powers. He's in Isaac's loft or something.
There were a lot of shots of Claire in the hospital looking at the jerk she crashed the car with and with her dad telling her that she's got to start trusting him.
We also see the older Petrelli brother (the politician) being held at gunpoint by Claire's dad & the creepy guy that works for him. He then shoots up like a rocket & is gone.
Finally, Hiro tells Peter that this is what he's been waiting for all his life.

I think that's it but someone make sure I didn't forget any details.

Unregistered- 10-18-2006 12:33 AM

At first it kinda bugged me that Claire was ALWAYS in a cheerleader's uniform. I mean, how many can she have after being impaled/maimed/ablaze, etc. etc.? But then I realized that all superheroes have to have a costume, right? :D

And regarding Claire's dad...for some reason I don't think he's the real bad guy. I don't know why I think that way, but I have a feeling that Sylar's the "real" bad guy and Claire's dad's purpose is for a whole 'nother reason and he's picking them up for reasons we don't know yet.

Finally, I can't stand Simone. I just can't. Something tells me that she's going to be the cause of some major fcuk up that affects the Heroes.

Oh yeah. There was also a sideline that said "Save the cheerleader. Save the World."
It kept cropping up images of Claire.
I agree about Claire's dad. He's not THE bad guy but he's not 100% good either. He's up to something else altogether...unless he proves us all wrong & turns out to be the Professor Xavier of the show. :D
And yes. Simone needs to up and get lost. She's annoying.

Unregistered- 10-18-2006 01:38 AM

I just wanted to share an interesting theory from another MB I frequent:

Quote:

Here's my might-be-fun-to-think-about theory on Sylar and what's going on.....

Sylar is Chandra Suresh. In sort of the same way Niki's got evil-Niki, Chandra Suresh had Sylar, but he experimented one too many times with his alter-ego and now it's taken him over. Chandra's desire to seek out mutants and study their brains has manifested itself in Sylar as a psychotic desire to remove (and possible eat?) the brains of other mutants.

Sylar went to the house in LA because Chandra's notes told him a mutant lived there. He assumed it was the father, but it turns out the little girl is actually the mutant. That's why Sylar came back for her.

Mr. Bennet and his non-acronymed organization are chasing down all the mutants in Chandra's notes to protect them from Sylar.
Very eeeeeenteresting...
