The Master Cleanse/Lemonade diet

Well I'm about to start my this cleanse tomorrow....I'm really excited....I'm doing it for the detox purposes but I'm not going to complain about the weight loss thats involved :) has anyone done the cleanse or know someone who has...I did a search and didn't come up with anything...

whiteandblack 10-01-2006 01:49 PM

while I was on it, it relieved all of my problems. I did it as a general cleanse (I think I'm addicted to sugar!). It does take self-control to complete the regimen. I still continue to drink a hot lemon and cayenne tea every morning. the lemon is good for your complexion and the pepper is good for the blood.

DeltAlum 10-01-2006 02:40 PM

What's this about.

I love lemonade.

Yes. My uncle does it at LEAST once a year. If you google "Stanley Burroughs" (the guy who created the MASTER CLEANSE), you will get more information. If you want to know even more, let me know and I'll PM you my uncle's website (he and his wife are into it, big time and know a lot about it)

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-01-2006 03:36 PM

why me....

Yeah you can also google "master cleanse" there's this one site thats a message board and people give a day to day account of their results....there are many reasons why people do the cleanse...it will detox you if you have a sugar or caffiene addiction, some people say it has cured their gout, people who want to clean their systems before going vegatarian or vegan, and some just want to lose in average of 20lbs in 10 to 14 days...I'm personally doing it because I have eaten alot of refined sugar and junk over the last few years and I can see a difference in my metabolic rate....I want to boost my energy level and rid my body of all the toxins....once I'm done I'm going to try to eat and live healthier.....I plan on going for 10 to 14 days at first then do a maintenance every month for a few days.....

epchick 10-01-2006 04:26 PM

Are you guys talking about the Lemon juice detox thingy? lol. I remember it was talked about in one of my mom's magazines. I really wanted to try it out, but I lost the information. All i know is you use lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup right?

Just in the article it doesn't give a whole lot of information, is that the only thing you are suppose to drink or can you supplement it with food? It sounds like an interesting concept losing like 14 pounds so quickly....that was what initially sparked my interest.

AchtungBaby80 10-01-2006 05:17 PM

Is this safe?

f8nacn 10-01-2006 05:21 PM

I know several people who have done this and actually do it quite often. It works - when you work it :-)

Munchkin03 10-01-2006 06:49 PM

I've always done the Leek Soup weekend...it's primarily water weight loss, and then on Sunday evening, my dinner is grilled fish and two veggies. It's a great way to eat healthy and start off the week on the right foot. Also, the soup ain't too bad.

from what I've learned its safe...you're giving your body what it needs through this weird combo of juice, H20, pepper and syrup...its taking in around 500 to 600 calories a day....I'm not expert and I guess you could ask your doctor..but its a holistic approach to detoxifaction....just bought all my supplies today and I'm really excited about this...I'm going to give a day by day account in this thread so if it works or bombs you guys will know....

_Lisa_ 10-01-2006 09:55 PM

I'm anxious to hear how well it works! I look forward to your updates! :D

whiteandblack 10-01-2006 10:44 PM

shoot, I feel like starting back on it again. like I said before I felt so good while I was on it. but you know after you complete the regimen you're supposed to make that healthy lifestyle change, but I can't keep away from that damn azucar!

JonInKC 10-02-2006 03:07 AM

Is this the thing that cleans all the feces out or is that something different?

Still BLUTANG 10-02-2006 10:39 AM

how does it taste?

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-02-2006 04:52 PM

An Update...

Ok so I bought the wrong syrup(grade A) yesterday so I didn't start because I just bought the correct one(grade B or C) about an hour ago....to answer someones question yes it cleans out your colon if done correctly....to the other question as far as taste it wasn't bad at all....(I sampled it a few minutes ago) the lady who helped me at the organic foods store said to start really light with the ceyenne pepper and as you get use to it add more...so now I have all the right ingredients and tomorrow I will be in the midst of the "Master Cleanse"....I'll keep the play by play as non-graphic as possible...

sisterzip 10-02-2006 04:54 PM

Wouldn't you gain all the weight back though

From the impression I get of the "Master Cleanse", it isn't about the weight loss as much as it is about the purifying benefits.

That's what I've heard too. It can jumpstart a change in diet but isn't necessarily designed to be a weight loss tool. I considered doing it because I was eating horribly for awhile, but I got back on track on my own.

Not to be gross, but I've heard you're also supposed to do a salt water flush every morning to get your bowels moving.....sounds fun. LOL

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-02-2006 05:05 PM

the idea is to cleanse, purify, and then start fresh with a healthy lifestyle..i.e. excercising, eating better....the book said and others have stated that if you continue to drink a large amount of H20 everyday you won't gain the water weight back...the other part of the weight loss is built up fecal matter and bad fat....

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-03-2006 10:09 AM

Day 1

ok....I've started my cleanse...the herbal laxative tea isn't bad...it has very little taste actually....I had a cup last night before bed and I'm having one now....you can opt to drink the seasalt bath in the mornings but I've tried that before and its hard to stomach...I'm going to attempt to use the seasalt at least twice a week though because it helps "clear out" everything thats been "loosened" up....So far the tea from last night hasn't had an effect..although I do feel some rumble in my tummy...I just made my lemonade for the day....its not very much:( but I can have as much H20 and peppermint tea as I like!!:)

dzfan 10-03-2006 06:44 PM

is this healthy? My friend is about to do it and I am really worried about her.

Yes, you are.

Dionysus 10-03-2006 10:33 PM

This sounds wack. If you need to lose weight and can't poop, just eat more fruits.

lyrica9 10-04-2006 02:41 AM

i remember my dad did this or something similar, it was pretty funny because he was slowly introducing heavier liquids back into his diet in order to get back to solids, and apparently the re-introduction of solids is really difficult, and we had to take a 30 minute detour at the adpi house on our way to his gig in ft. worth. quite amusing.

AGDee 10-04-2006 05:41 AM

I don't know if this is the cleanse that claims that the average person has 22 pounds of old matter in their colons, but, I must say, that claim is BS. If that were true, then everybody who has ever done a colonoscopy prep would lose 22 pounds during the prep. While most people do lose a couple pounds from the prep, it's mostly water weight, because you are dehydrated after a liquid diet for 24 hours followed by a gallon of laxatives...

kddani 10-04-2006 06:14 AM

While it is an interesting concept, I would not do something this extreme without advice from a doctor. Drinking only this stuff does not sound healthy at all. Not to mention that i'm guessing it will turn even the sweetest person into a raging psycho bitch.

Cleansing diets where you eat mostly vegetables and a small amount of good carbs sound a lot more healthy to me and a lot less dangerous.

RU OX Alum 10-04-2006 09:09 AM

The cleanse I used to do was only a weekend long. You drink distilled water and take lots of goldenseal, and just kind of lie around, because you will have like zero energy.

The next time I try this, I will eat citrus though.

Honeykiss1974 10-04-2006 11:28 AM

This cleanse is perfectly healthy but with anything you should check with your doctor to m ake sure that YOU are in good health before starting it.

I've done this before (only for 5 days) and I felt ten times better! Some peopple do lose weight but it tells you that this is not intended for weight loss - just cleansing of the body and preparation for a healthy start (some people do this cleanse before starting a vegan lifestlye).

aggieAXO 10-04-2006 03:09 PM

I got very hungry just reading about this cleansing diet last night. I don't think I could live on just liquids. Good Luck.

adpiucf 10-04-2006 04:00 PM

Your body needs to take in a certain number of calories on a daily basis. This is not healthy and the weight you lose will be gained back+ because you're starving your body and it will slow your metabolism down.

If you want to "purify" your body, go through your pantry and trash the crap. Eat fresh foods and whole grains and exercise.

PrettyGirl03 10-04-2006 04:15 PM

I've tried it...didn't last past a day.

I just love me some food!

LOL I hear ya. That's why I did mine during a work week (instead of the weekend) so I wouldn't be tempted. But after day 3, I wasn't hungry anymore, but please believe I was G-L-A-D it was over.

My hats off to those that do this for 2 weeks or longer.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-04-2006 06:41 PM

Day 2

Today was a horrible day while working...not because of the cleanse, that went fine...I haven't been hungry at all....the scale went down 3 lbs...I had several bathroom trips yesterday which is way different for me....today I made my "lemonade" too hot with the ceyenne pepper but I just diluted it some with water...so far so good....last night around 9pm I wanted a snack pretty bad but I drank my senna tea and I was fine....

to everyone who thinks that the cleanse is starving yourself thats incorrect...with six servings of the lemonade you are getting 600 calories you can have up to 10 to 12 glasses...more importantly you are giving your digestive system a break from having to breakdown the ridiculous junk that we (or at least I) was taking into my body on a daily basis....once you pass the built up "gunk" in your system...everything works better...this cleanses your liver and kidneys...but anyway nothing is for everyone, I'm not trying to convert anyone...I'm pretty healthy for the most part...definitely not doing it for just weight loss (5'9 145lb to start) and can't wait to be healthier all the way around...this is going to work for me...

CarolinaCutie 10-04-2006 07:46 PM

I thought this thread was about the stuff you take when you need to flush out your system to pass a drug test. But now I'm a lot smarter for reading this thread!

CUGreekgirl 10-04-2006 11:16 PM

I have been trying to go raw vegan for awhile after being vegetarian for several months. I found a thing about the MC online and was planning on starting this week, however, we don't have many stores in this town other than walmart and I can't find the Grade B syrup so I"m having to order some. I have the rest of the stuff, so I am really thinking about going ahead and start the MC tomorrow with Molasses untill the maple syrup arrives.

I'm going to do btwn 14 and 20 days of the MC, then after coming off of it, I plan on becoming a 100% raw vegan, which means I will eat no cooked food, no animal products. Definitely not a lifestyle for everyone.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-04-2006 11:24 PM

good luck with your cleanse...try grade A syrup until your grade B arrives...just maybe cut it back a little....they have grade A at Super Walmart...(here anyway)

PM_Mama00 10-05-2006 01:58 AM

How is 500-600 calories a day healthy? Granted I'm not exactly at a healthy weight, but I've always heard doctors say that 1200 is a healthy intake, and that you shouldn't go lower than 1000.

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-05-2006 08:48 AM

beginning of day 3

another 2lbs down...that amount of lemonade is the least amount you should drink...if you feel hungry you drink more....I'm havin a hard time drinking the 60oz so I don't want anymore...you're also drinking herbal tea twice a day and should still drink additional water...thats alot for me....I'm floating by the end of the night...just got up to day 3 and I feel fine....so far the hard part is the salt water flush..couldn't get it down so I just drank more herbal tea, which is an option....

CUGreekgirl 10-05-2006 12:16 PM

oohsofly,

How do you get past the need to chew? I'm fine, a little hungry, but the main thing is i just feel like i need to chew something.

I just had some of the tea and its actually pretty yummy!

Ice. Although be careful, because that "need to chew" sensation can be a warning symptom of anemia.
