Hey everyone, this in an internet forum, not a matter of life and death, chill out.

Some of you crazy Greekchaters are borderline ridiculous/socially inept/borderline loser/complete goobers.

This is an internet forum.....not a matter of life and death. Some of you are posting as if the happenings of this site are actually getting to you deep down inside. If what goes on here actually angers you to the point that you feel the need to bitch and rant to a "higher power".......you should drink a couple bleach coctails, end your life, or kick your own ass.

Thanks. 6th Street in Austin was a blast tonight. I went to a couple places known as "Bars" you all should try them out. Its a very good alternative to a keyboard and quick reply.

sdsuchelle 09-29-2006 06:21 AM

Ok, some valid points, BUT you don't have to be condescending.

Also, it's coming from someone with 1,080 posts.. so I don't know.

Unregistered- 09-29-2006 06:35 AM

Regarding post counts, one needs to remember that most of those who have cracked the 10,000+ mark are GCers who have been here since the beginning of GC (or a short time thereafter). If they got to 10,000+ posts within the course of a few short months, then you can play the "you need to get a life" card.

Most of my posts come during the day while in class or last summer during the internship.....or the occasional post drunk posting.

You should also know that I don't take GC to heart and don't get into fits of emotional rage over it.

He's right, and while you're at it, consider losing phrases like "you don't have to be condescending." This isn't a first grade classroom, we're adults, you can be condescending if you like. If people on here had their way, we'd scratch the first amendment and replace it with, "No person shall offend another person..."

That could stand to be directed towards a few. Some people miss the ignore button and head straight for the report button instead.

I agree with Mac 100%. People need to stop taking everything so personally. It's just the internet.

valkyrie 09-29-2006 12:00 PM

Commenting that "it's just the internet OMG" is even more lame than getting pissed off about stuff that happens on the internet. If it's just the internet and people shouldn't take it seriously, why are you even commenting on that -- instead of, you know, realizing it's just the internet and not taking it seriously?

I think my head just exploded, by the way.

macallan25 09-29-2006 12:10 PM

So wait...if its the internet, and shouldn't be taken seriously, then why are you commenting on me commenting on people who comment about how horrible it is for threads to get deleted and how much of an emotional wreck they are after certain people on here post certain comments. You can comment on my comments all you want, but I really don't care at all what you have to comment about because its Greekchat/The Internet.

EL OH EL.

An internet forum - for those who are frequent visitors - serves as a town square/water cooler for discussions.

Just as I'd be passionate about a cause in person, I would be online.

Some people who I discuss issues with, I'd love to meet. Others, I am glad our paths will never cross.

Like it or not, the internet is a place to share ideas and points of view. Saying "get a life" is a cop out.

To have a good discussion, one must "attack the issue, not the person." Unfortunately, many people online do not understand this.

Oh, and BTW,as I mentioned in another thread: I've been on GC for 6 years & haven't reached 1000 posts. Some people have reached 1000 in just 6 MONTHS! And they say get a life?!

Its interesting that you quoted that part of my comment....and then said something about my amount of posts in 6 months. Again, I post during the day, usually while in class or at the office when I don't have anything to do. The summer long internship also lead to a lot of posting.....I have a great social life filled with bars, fraternity parties, sorostitute functions, road trips, etc. etc. You can take that however you want....I really don't care.

.........I don't, however, get emotionally attached to this place nor do I take anything on here as seriously as some of you. Its a website, not a matter of life and death. The fact that there was actually some sense of "drama" on here, mostly concerning, again, a senile old man, was rather humorous to me.......so I made a thread. Oh well.

Brother;
I agree with you...interesting how some people try to live their lives here while controling the board...

SigmaChiGuy 09-29-2006 10:33 PM

You SAE's sure are acting as the circle of brothers eternal - you guys always have each others back, even outside of loyalty, friendship, honor and fraternity. What year were you guys founded?

Perhaps you can look in my signature.....or the string of numbers at the end of Jon's name.....dipshit.

shinerbock 09-30-2006 03:05 AM

It really must be awesome being a sigma chi at a second rate university. I bet yall are true brothers in every sense of the word. I would ask you what you're doing this weekend, but it probably involves watching one of our schools play football on tv, while sitting in your dorm room splitting a 6 pack of sky blue. Hell yeah bro, brotherhood. Other fraternities probably waste their time on networking and girls and parties, but nah, we're here for the brotherhood. Way to stay above the riff raff, bro.

Dude, you're the main one who gets all bent out of shape when racial issues are brought up. You should be the last person posting this thread. Don't get me wrong you've made some valid points that I agreed with, but no need to get so pissed off.

You do have fits of emotional rage dude. I won't be surprised if you blow up on me for this post. I think you just called someone a dipshit. No need for name calling unless you are seroiusly joking. Doesn't sound like it though.:p

Calling someone a name on a message board liek this, like you do in almost every thread your a part of isn't getting worked up over nothing?

Grow up and stop calling people names....

Does pointing it out make any difference?
And I think we have all seen a great deal worse, which is what Mac' was pointing out and NO ONE seemed to make a great deal about that....besides the group that was doing it.....

I do truly hope that you were making a joke based on Mac's and mine sigs or tags.:D ;)
If not, our Fraternity's history is not that hard to find on-line.

Well, my own Mother knows about one third of our grip (she dated a Brother while both in college)....and why would someone make a claim to know more about someone elses fraternity is well beyond me....well I did find out about another Fraternity's Pledge Hazing/Hellweek because a pledge there was a bit too trusting and/or stressed out over the phone during it...that is all I learned and I did not try to learn anymore as it was NOT my business....As it is NOT mine to know yours...even if one of my close friends is one of your Brothers......

P.S.: SigmaChiGuy: Please feel more than welcome to continue this in a PM and OFF the board.

WTF

PM_Mama00 09-30-2006 08:19 PM

How old are we?

PM_Mama00: Not sure just when you jumped into this thread and where but if you review the thread I for one never said any of the above.

And I think you may have the wrong word in your statement, if I understand it at least: It should be "and" rather than "but".

However you and several others are doing a fine job in proving a very interesting point......or two...

Do a search and type in BGLO GLO. There's some stuff in there. I'm not saying you're comments are lame, I happen to agree with most of your comments in general, you just have to calm down dude. It's no big deal. You don't know or see these greeks.

I work midnights and go to class in the day time. There's never anything to do at night here so I get on greekchat and laugh. Like you did at your intern.

I don't take anything serious, though there are some interesting topics. All I'm sayin' dude is I would lighten up. If you don't let this stuff get to you then my badd. After laughing at some of your messages, you seem to be a kool guy you just sound pissed all the time. You'll swear at someone in a minute. LOL

That's the "problem" right there.

This is a forum for discussions about Greek issues or to just come and hang out periodically.

But for some it is clearly a focal point of life- and at the expense of on topic discussion.

It is also at the expense of the person who pays for all of this and the time he and the moderators spend to keep things on track.

Being neither an owner or a moderator I get the luxury of not having to deal with that directly, but it is annoying to see really good discussions about serious issues get derailed.

Chapters are run by college kids who, if they are lucky, get periodic guidance from advisors who have lives of their own and cannot be there every second. And then there are the many rushees who have little knowledge of Greek Life.

This forum can be a much needed resource for sharing info and ideas among people who NEED it.

It is also a good place to just chat sometimes for those who want that- but why does this aspect of it have to come at the expense of the other? Why can't all the personal/social fulfillment stuff stay HERE in Chit Chat and be away from the other forums?
