Who should be allowed to have CANES, aside from NUPES??
There has been a debate over these canes on who really has the priveledge to carry canes. I've been getting heat for making these canes. Many Nupes believe only Nupes (and maybe SGhros) should carry canes. Many Sigmas beileve that they had canes first (where the hell did they come up with that). Zetas often use cane as well.
Well this all leads me to ask, WHAT ORG'S HAVE THE RIGHT TO ROCK CANES?? Without bias, Nupes are synonmouse with canes and definately made it popular. (message brought you by http://stores.ebay.com/HotCanes - pick up the hottest canes here) |

It is a known fact that nupes by far are syonomous with the kane. It's a free country so anyone can use kanes if they so desire. Sigma's using kanes is only evidence of their lack of creativity. Nupes will always be the true kane masters. Period.

2 points for you. :D  :D |
So much sets us apart. Us members of the Divine 9 (D9). But for years all 9 of us have used canes and staffs one time or another. Which at least gives us a common bond. Something that the NPHC needs. It shouldn't be a matter of which member of NPHC has the right to use canes and staffs. Rather, the canes and staffs should set the NPHC apart from fraternaties, sororities, org. and social groups outside the D9. Who has the right? Alphas, Kappas, Omegas, Sigmas, Iotas, AKA's, Deltas, Zetas, and SGrhos... that's who.

I think that anyone regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, sexual preference, or social status should be allowed at least one candy cane for Christmas. It is in aintegral part of the legend of the "Christmas spirit" and all should feel the love, warmth, and minty goodness provided by the Candy cane. They also make good tree decorations....

Anyone should be able to use canes simply because it is a free country. Well...at least anyone except the LAPD!;)

I'd also like to point out that this thread is over 4 years old. |
Such and old thread, yes... but I was thinking blind people rocked canes first. Or shepherds tending their flocks of sheep.

I just wanted to point it out, it might be 4 yrs old, but it still needed to stated.
And yes, Blind People, Sheperds etc used canes, but when it comes to Greekdom, Kappas & Sigmas are the originators, now I don't know about SGRho's but I won't touch that topic. |

How SGRho's came to use canes isn't rocket science. There are members/chapters of SGRho that don't step with or twirl canes at all and have no desire to learn for that matter and there are chapters that hold this as a dear tradition that is passed down from line to line. And no this did not start in the 90's. Who said that? Today, a soror can easily find another soror to teach them cane steps (and by the way, some are unique to us) and how to twirl but on those campuses where SGRho and Kappa were/are cool and even considered themselves to have a sister/brother relationship (don't know when this started but was definitely prior to the 90's and yes this did and does exist on some campuses...get over it!), Kappas did indeed teach SGRho's how to twirl. I have witnessed such lessons myself and the Kappas who do the teaching are usually proud and even flattered to see sorors handling their canes so well (not me though, I can't stand Kappas :)). Some of my sorors handle them a little too well (just check youtube LOL). Anyway, today of course sorors are teaching sorors regardless of a Kappa/SGRho relationship or lack thereof, so in this way their tradition became our tradition among those members and chapters that embrace it. My undergrad chapter only used staffs when stepping (Spr. '93 in da house!); we never had a desire to use canes and to this day, we are still a non-cane stepping/carrying/twirling chapter. |
