Soon-to-be AI

I am an alumna of Zeta Psi Sigma, a local sorority at Carnegie Mellon University that was adopted by Alpha Chi Omega last spring and is now Kappa Nu of AXO.

All of the ZetaSig alumae were invited to AI and I am excited to announce that I finally have an initiation date! I will initiate at the Beta Rho chapter at American University on November 12!

I know this isn't the typical AI story in this forum, but I thought I'd share a slightly different AI experience. :)

LPIDelta 09-11-2006 02:06 PM

Congratulations! I too am an AI via colonization, and I applaude you on your choice to see it through to initiation!

tinydancer 09-11-2006 02:07 PM

Congratulations! We haven't had a story like yours in quite some time, I think.

Drolefille 09-11-2006 02:22 PM

Congrats to you and AXO!

PenguinTrax 09-11-2006 02:59 PM

Congrats to you! I would assume that the founders that were initiated in Chi Omega were not included in the invitation to join AXO? That must be hard for them...are you keeping the alumnae group for the local sorority or merging it into the AXO alumnae chapter? Just curious - you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Quote from the article you posted:
The original six founders of Zeta will not be allowed to initiate into Alpha Chi because they are already initiated into Chi Omega. However, they will be given the option of acting as mentors for the current members of Zeta/Alpha Chi.

BadSquirrelBeta 09-11-2006 03:18 PM

Congrats!! I hope it is a great experience for you!! :)

I found the article after I'd posted the original response. :o That's great that they can stay involved.

AlphaFrog beat me to it, but no, ZetaSig's founders will not be able to inititate into AXO. However, we are also maintaining our ZetaSig alumnae mailing list and, as far as I understand things, all ZetaSig alumnae (regardless of whether or not they choose to initiate into AXO) will be welcome at the Kappa Nu chapter for alumnae events.

Curiousity: How did the founders become members of Chi-O?

They were already initiated members of Chi Omega before establishing Zeta Psi Sigma. :)

Drolefille 09-11-2006 03:37 PM

Gotcha.

Cool!

It was a Chi Omega Chapter which was closed/self closed or whatever and went local and then years later, affiliated with an NPC group. According to my notes, fiften groups submittee materials to be considered for this extension opportunity and Chi Omega was not one of the four invited to present. I do not have if they were one of the 15.

Jill1228 09-11-2006 04:27 PM

Congrats to you and Alpha Chi Omega!

AChiOhSnap 09-11-2006 05:12 PM

I think you're the first A Chi O AI that's been on this board....

CONGRATULATIONS to my new sister(s)!!! You're going to adore initiation :D

I'm so excited for you! How many of the Zeta Psi Sigma alums will be initiating in the upcoming months? Will they all be initiating at AU? Details please! :D

MJo19 09-11-2006 05:23 PM

Congrats!:D

A few alums who live near Pittsburgh (8 or so... that's a total guess :) ) initiated with the chapter back in April. There are 6 of us initiating in DC. Currently, there are 32 of us who are definitely initiating, but I think the total will be closer to 45 or 50 (about half of the ZetaSig alumnae).

Awwwww I'm so excited for you and all of my 50 new sisters. Congratulations again. :)

Definitely keep us updated with everything as your initiation date draws near.

Emily

So I'm another Zeta Psi Sigma Alum that will be AI at some point in the future. It will be either this fall at some school in the new england(yet to be determined) or this spring at MIT. I think closer to 20 alums initiated in the spring at the chapter instillation (http://chichiaxo.squarespace.com/ the local alumni chapter has an information section on Kappa Nu and they listed 20 alumni, the site also has pictures and information about the colonization process from the spring). There are 15 or so alumni in the Boston area that will be initiating at some point. :)

Wow... I didn't realize we had that many alums in Pgh. It didn't look like 20 from the pictures, but I could be wrong. :)

Buttonz 09-12-2006 12:52 PM

Congrats to you, your new sisters, and AChiO :)

LouisaMay 09-12-2006 01:05 PM

Congratulations! That's wonderful:)

AGDLynn 09-14-2006 05:59 PM

On a side note, my chapter was originally Sigma Chi Omega, a local sorority. I don't know why the chapter didn't become Chi Omega, instead of Alpha Gamma Delta, since we were chartered about the same time.

Take a little paint and save time and money!;)

OrchidAlum 11-06-2006 02:11 PM

There are a couple of different dates in the Boston Area. On the 10th there is an initiation at the University of Vermont but I don't think anyone is going because it’s so far away. In December there are three different dates, U Mass in Amherst is December 1st, University if New Hampshire on December 4/5th (I'm not sure what the final date is), and Brown on December 7th. I think University of Rhode Island also has a date this fall but I'm not sure when. For MIT I think initiation sometime in early April. I do know that it’s not the same weekend as Carnival but other than that I can’t remember the date.

I think I’m going to go UNH one, its much closer for me to drive to. I’m going to a Boston AXO alumni event this weekend and I might be able to find out more information then. :)

Damn, AXO is initiating late at UMASS. I believe SK's initiation is this weekend. But don't quote me on that. Not that I know anything about their new member education or anything like that, it was more surprise that they are taking longer that's all.

Orchid Alum - I hope your initiation day into Alpha Chi Omega was wonderful and beautiful and the first of many wonderful memories with the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega.

I think kateshort was in a local and then when her local became an ADPi chapter, she became an ADPi.
