2006 VMAs
First impression: The show was wack. Not since Chris Rock have they had a good host.
Performances: Justin's performance was ok. I like 'SexyBack', actually I'm the one who originally brought sexy back but that's for another discussion. Beyonce: I like the performance, looked good as always, thought some of the moves during the dance break were a riff of Janet's 'If' video. Christina: A little flat sounding to me but her performance was ok. Luda: Good performance but were the Pussycat Dolls necessary? Pussycat Dolls: Why did you feel the need to let all 80 of you thank people during your acceptance speech? Only two people really sing in the group anyway. TI: 'What You Know' is last year bruh. Can I get some 'Live in the Sky'? Hype Williams Tribute: Busta I will always rock to that song (Put your hands where my eyes can see). It was tight how Missy brought back the old finger waves and the big suit. Other than that the show was garbage. AND WHO IN THE HELL ARE THE RACOUNTEURS??? |

don't think i will be watching the repeats...didn't miss anything:rolleyes: and who knew Chamillonaiire could conjugate a verb? |
Ditto.
Was impressed that Hype got the Video Vanguard award, I thought it went to artists? Good move, MTV. starfish: you know you are dead wrong for that comment!!! :D :D It's true, but you are still wrong for it. :) WTF w/Al Gore showing up? lol... |
Quote:
Umm and as for Gore. Random as hell. Btw, I agree Beyonce stole most of her moves from Janet. But I thought her performance was ok...nothing more. I mean, Madonna, Janet...and even Britney did that whole black/goth leather/dominatrix looking stuff before. It was alright. I wasn't totally impressed this year...:o |

I wasn't impressed with anything except Hype winning the Vanguard Award and the tribute to him. Actually, I was only half impressed by the tribute because the VH1 Hip Honors always impress me more than the VMAs.
The show was terrible, and I flipped to it every 30 or so minutes. How can anything be good if Chamillonaire could win for best Hip Hop Video? What??? I never thought the show was rigged until then. So next year's winner will have to be that "Chicken Noodle Soup" then, right? I think T.I. was trying to clean up the performance of 'What You Know' on the BET Awards by redoing it on the VMAs. That was pointless to perform the same song on two different awards. But I did like the crown on his hoodie. :D |

We are >>>here<<< with B's performance. I was thinking was I suppose to be watching Ring The Alarm or Rhythm Nation?
Justin looked kind of stiff to me. PCD: you better hope that neither a) Nicole goes solo or b) Dainty Kane kicks ya'll off as best multicultural girl group. :p T.I.'s performance was way better this time than it was at the BET Awards (even though that wasn't his fault). Ye, MTV heard your cry and decided to give Hype the Video Vanguard award (remember he said something at the BET awards). :D The tribute was nice and I'm glad Busta and Missy came out. And I have a message for the both of them: ya'll need to get back with Hype because the videos haven't been the same since. And Missy, did you steal Sean P.'s car? :p Christina: I think she was great! :D And I want to borrow that red dress she wore. And why did all of those bands look alike? And please get Chris Rock or Jimmy Fallon back. Even Diddy was better last year! This show was not exciting at all. Hasn't been the same since Madonna kissed Britney. :( |
Hated Beyonce. Loved JT. Loved the Hype tribute, his videos are classic and you always know when it's directed by him. Fell asleep at the end.
|
Did anyone see the guy who came up during the Video of the Year presentation? JLo looked at him like "who in the h*ll are you"? Sadly, that was the most exciting thing that happened the whole show. And I was glad to see Lil' Kim. :)
|
What about I have never seen the VMA's, and I'm glad to see that I have never missed anything.
|
I remember the days when I would break my neck to be in front of the TV when the VMAs came on. Now, I barely know when the will air... nor do I care. :o
I'll try to catch the reruns so I can see the Hype tribute. |

MTV either shows videos late at night or early in the morning. VH1 is just about as bad. And MTV2 (which was created to show videos that MTV didn't) is on the verge of being like them.
I always wonder why people complain that MTV doesn't show enough videos, but BET shows too many. |
MTV doesn't show hardly any videos. The channel is called MUSIC Television, yet, there is hardly any music. Pimp My Ride, Cribs, Next, Laguna Beach, The Hills... NOTHING about music. Real World and Road Rules have been on for as long as MTV has been on the air. All those other shows can GO!
On another note, Timbaland looks like a stuffed ham in that suit. He was supposed to be a bodybuilder these days, but he looks like he is putting that weight back on. WTH did J.Lo have on in the audience? My observations as the show progresses: *Lil' Kim ain't so "lil" anymore! *I SOOOOOOO have a crush on James Blunt! He's a cutie and that accent...! I heart him! :D *Is "My Humps" a BEP song or Fergie's song? If it's Fergie's song, why are those other bozos on stage and why didn't they allow her to give shoutouts FIRST? *Chris Brown's cute self has a slight speech impediment.... *I was thouroughly entertained and intrigued by the treadmill performance. Who are those guys? *Beyonce was good....Not great, but good. *Her and Jay are cute together. *I am pleasantly surprised to see Jay and Nas sitting next to one another! :D *Who is the LAME chick that is telling jokes throughout the show (the one who said Paris is fat)? |

BET is supposed to reflect programming for African-Americans, and yet all they have to show is music videos. I have a hard time believing there is no programming of even slightly greater significance that they could showcase. Both channels suck. |

That dude crashes every single year. If they don't want him there, they should ban him or get a restraining order or something. Dude is good if he can continue to make it on stage. I think MTV is behind it. With people like LL's fine a** on stage and no crazed fan gets up there, yet this dude can crash EVERY year, something fishy is going on. Maybe others haven't tried.... But that's hard to believe. |

I think that they both were there to support Hype. Or it could be because Nas is now employed on Jay's label...who knows? |
The treadmill guys are Ok Go. I love that video.
|
My Humps is a BEP song. London Bridge is a Fergie song. Anyway, if it wasn't for Fergie, the BEP would not be where they are at today. Adding her was the best thing they ever did.
Sara Silverman was very wack. If I was Paris, I would have knocked her. :p And she goes with Jimmy Kimmel?  Another issue: Did anyone see 50 and LL together? They were there because LL is doing his next album (supposely his last with Def Jam) with 50. And he was complaining during the preshow that Def Jam isn't the same and they are not promoting (take that up with Russell and Jay). He is the GOAT and he has lower his standards by working with the devil (aka 50)? WTH?  :( |
Ok, so I see that the VMA's are coming on at 9pm, and I wanted to see who opened the show. So I check it out before I go out. Ok, so I see that it's Justin Timberlake, so I look and listen cuz I still have yet to hear this song Sexy Back. So I'm hoping that he sings the song, which he doesn't for the first song, and then he starts singing a 2nd song and I'm like I hope this is it, which it turns out to be. So then this porker looking dude comes out and I'm like who is this...So I take a closer look and I see that it's Timberland. I remember in a previous post that someone said that he had porked up, but I wasn't ready for that at all. My mouth was hanging open for at least 30 seconds. So what did Tim do gain all of Missy's weight that she lost. I mean that suit around the booty area didn't look good at all. I am still in shock of all the weight that he has gained.
All I can hear in my mind is Little Richard from that Geico commercial going "mashed potatoes and gravy"....yeah ole Timbo has had his fair share of mashed potatoes and gravy.... |

I remember seeing him on the BET Awards last year and he was buff. Either he's gotten more buff or he has seriously let it go. You can't really tell with those clothes.

Get ready for the beat down because i am soo gonna hurt you for the last comment. So not right you are :D |
Beyonce' tore it down. So many artists are using her moves with the booty bounce- why not perfect the moves of the dance legend Janet? I love her and will be getting the album this evening.
Thanks |

Have you seen him in the Nelly Furtado video for "Promiscuous". He looked pretty buff there. He had a really short, wide neck which makes him look stocky as well. LOL |
I liked Beyonce's performance. Yeah it was Janet'esque but I thought she did it well. It was the live action of the Ring the alarm video I guess. She is still one of the few artist I have seen who can move around and still sing without getting crazy out of tune or sounding winded. Her voice stays strong.
Most of the show was horrible to me. I knew Jack Black would be wack. |
