Primetime Emmy's

Anybody else watching? What wonderful words from Dick Clark. I feel for that guy. Barry Manilow hasn't aged.. do you think he's had a face lift? Botox? Hmmm...

Anyway, just thought I'd start a thread on these! There are bound to be some winners from some of our favorite shows! (Rooting for Gray's Anatomy for anything and everything they are nominated for)

It was pretty good. I'm upset that neither House nor Hugh Laurie won anything. :( I know HL wasn't nominated, but whatever. I thought it was overall funny.

But of course someone's complaining about the plane crash in the intro (take off of Lost) because of the crash in Kentucky...

Grey's Anatomy got jipped. When Charlie's Angels did that tribute to Aaron Spelling, I was trying to figure out how much plastic surgery Katie had.

Drolefille 08-28-2006 09:37 AM

They're SOOOO OLD.

Of course My boyfriend always asks me "what's the big deal with Tori Spelling" and last night I just pointed at the screen.

Never got into Grey's Anatomy myself. But SCRUBS DESERVES AN EMMY :)

It was great to see Jeremy Piven win for his work in Entourage.

Drolefille 08-28-2006 01:16 PM

lol, it was a close vote though.

Grey's Anatomy got robbed. I really thought this season was great...even better than the first one. Glad that Megan Mullaly got another Emmy, and definitely happy for Julia Louis-Dreyfus breaking that Seinfeld "curse".

I thought they did a nice tribute to Aaron Spelling. Adding the original Angels was a nice touch. They are, after all, the originals...there are kids out there who don't know that Drew, Lucy, and Cameron aren't the real Angels!

The In Memoriam segments always get to me. There were a few last night where I totally forgot -- like Richard Pryor and Jack Warden.

Does anyone know what happened with the whole someone being nominated for a 14 second performance thing?

I think it was a guest star appearance and she was literally onscreen for 14 seconds. I can't remember who it was though...but i know it was a woman. I was half way asleep while i was watching it!

It was Ellen Burstyn and in the cameo performance category (I think). 14 seconds or not, she's still a wonderful actress.

I loved Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart presenting the competitive reality category. "KNEEL BEFORE YOUR GOD, BABYLON!"

Stephen Colbert got robbed!

OtterXO 08-28-2006 04:02 PM

Not to turn this into an "Emmy Fashion" thread, but what was with all the purple strapless dresses.....is purple supposed to be hot right now? Plus Evangeline Lilly and Leah Remini were both wearing Versace and their dresses looked really similar...you'd think the fashion houses would watch for that sort of stuff!

I agree.

"I LOST TO BARRY MANILOW!!!"

Bravo has been showing reruns of the awards all day...

Kate Jackson:

It's really sad that Tori couldn't (or wouldn't, depending on which side of the story you believe) sit next to her mother during the tribute. Get along for a least one day!

I love Julia's comment when she won! :D

I only saw some of it but I will watch it again when it comes back on at 9...I just want to see the Dick Clark tribute. But why they didn't honor him during the Daytime Emmys? All of his shows, except for the bloopers and the award shows he produced, came on during the day.

American Bandstand!!!!!! That was a night time show! Plus...I feel like daytime emmy's are for the soaps and talk shows, you know?

jitterbug13 08-28-2006 10:39 PM

I remember Bandstand to be on Saturdays at noon. But I grew up in the 80s. That's why I thought it should be doing it during the Daytime Emmys. And I forgot about the Rocking New Year's Show. But I did see the tribute. He looked and sounded a whole lot better than he did New Year's. :)

I thought Bandstand was originally an afternoon show? Like around Oprah or Dr. Phil's timeslot?

cutiepatootie 08-29-2006 02:35 PM

I remember bandstand on saturdays at 11/ noon time slot. If day time or night time emmys , Dick Clark has produced both as well as the music award shows so it is only fitting to do it at the night time emmys.

33girl 08-29-2006 02:41 PM

American Bandstand was on in the afternoons after school in its earlier days, then was on Saturday afternoons after that. It was never a nighttime show, unless you're talking about the very brief period before it croaked when it was syndicated. Then that would have been the individual stations' decision on when to run it.
