Greek interacial relationships

Just curious. I couldn't think of anything to talk about, so I thought this would be an interesting topic. Has anyone one ever dated a greek that was from a differnet race than you? Also interacial relationships. For them or Against them. Give me your thoughts. Everyone be honest. No racial slurs either.

Senusret I 08-26-2006 06:44 AM

A brother in my alumni chapter who died a few years ago was married to an Asian woman.

I saw maybe one white Alpha wife at convention.

I don't think it's too common in my fraternity.

(I see it all the time in APO, though.)

I dated a Korean girl in high school, but that was high school. Now? I haven't dated outside of my race. Actually I haven't dated at all. LOL. :D My schedule is too hectic. :( As far as the Frat, I've never seen a fraternity brother date outside of his race. I'm sure there are some, I just haven't run across any.

gdiaz 08-26-2006 12:03 PM

i always seem to date outside of my race, i guess there isnt enough spanish girls in sororities, oh well.

Elephant Walk 08-26-2006 01:06 PM

There are some cute Hispanic ladies in sororities, and I've dated them. However, if a guy dated black lady, he would probably be ostracized into quitting. I don't find them oh so attractive anyways so it doesn't really bother me.

I've never really seriously dated anyone except my fiance (yeah, yeah, I know), who happens to be white like me. I don't have any problems with interracial relationships, and if my SO woke up tomorrow and was miraculously Asian or something, that'd be fine (little disturbing, but hey).

As for Delta ... I can't see too many interracial relationships happening with my sorors (that I know personally). Not neccessarily that it's a moral opposition, but it just wouldn't happen. I see it more in OPhiA.

What I think has been kind of weird for me is what I've termed "interconference dating" - NPHC Greeks with IFC Greeks, or NPHC Greeks with NPC Greeks, as the case may be. It leads to some odd situations ...

My problem isn't with the attracted v. not attracted part (although, come on, there is a wide range in every race), it's with the "Oh, well, it's okay for this attitude to take place in my fraternity since it doesn't directly affect me" attitude.

And if someone white would have made that comment, you'd be the first one to scream "ignorant".

uhhhhh, isn't the guy white? and no, i'm not excusing his ignorance. but like i said....you still can't help what you are or are not attracted to.

Okay lets put it like this...
it's not about the race, but it's the contributing factor. If there was a black girl that everyone found attractive, it would be different. I think beyonce's cute, it's about race if only because their race determines their appearance. It's sort of like being the guy who hooked up with the fat girl. Y'know? It's the same type of ostracism based on appearance and not race.

Ok my bad. I thought he was black. But anyways... I stand by my point, but I also understand yours.

I'm white and I'm in an Asian American Fraternity.

I see a LOT of Asian girls dating white guys, but rarely do I come across a white girl with an Asian guy. Usually the guy is pretty whitewashed too.

As for me, I've dated Black and Asian basically.

My lil sis, who is white as white can be (Polish... blonde hair, blue eyes) dated a guy who was half Chinese/half Polish. He looks way more on the Asian side.

Elephant Walk 08-26-2006 06:15 PM

The deal with the white guys dating asian girls but asian guys not dating white girls, I believe, is that asian girls tend to fit the American view of the perfect girl, because they are usually small girls and so on. However, asian guys tend to be small as well and their hair isn't able to fit the Caucasian style of wearing it usually unlike the girls, which is not the typical American view. No offense to the asian guys on here, because it's not always a hard standard, obviously.

I have a white friend who, on a regular basis, makes me cringe by proclaiming her "Yellow Fever." This girl is in seminary to be a pastor and says she's called to Asian culture in general so it does make some sense to me. She was drawn to an Asian ministry before she discovered her affinity for Asian men, so I suppose spending so much time with Asian men, she began to feel more and more comfortable, thus leading to her desire for an Asian husband.

On the topic, next Friday, I will marry a black Omega Psi Phi. :) I'm white and Greek (obviously).

Taualumna 08-26-2006 08:54 PM

I personally don't really notice who dates whom, but my cousin, who is from NYC, commented on how she's seen many Asian guys date white girls up here in Toronto.

p.s. should this thread be moved to the dating board?

Amen to that.

All the guys I've dated have been outside my race. I've only dated one Asian (but the only thing Asian about him was his last name and the fact that he was only 1/8th of it) and don't find most of them attractive.

particularly in the asian community, that has nothing to do with personal attraction.

Another thing as well...growing up and living in Hawai`i where everyone's of mixed ancestry, interracial relationships are the norm and have been this way since the missionaries (followed by the plantation workers) came.

tunatartare 08-27-2006 12:51 AM

I find that a lot of white guys have a thing for Asian girls. My high school was 66% Asian, and one of the guys in my youth group wanted to come to my graduation just to see all of the Asian girls. I kid you not. When it comes to race, my last 3 serious relationships were all white and Jewish. I don't care about color as much as I care about religion. I also would prefer not to date Russian guys. My last boyfriend was Russian, and it just confirmed for me how much I want to ostracize myself from the Russian community.

shinerbock 08-27-2006 03:53 AM

Holy crap. You must live in a seriously diverse area...66 percent asian? I don't think I see 66 asian people in a calendar year. Russian community? Damn.

on a side note,
I'm talking 'bout George W. Smith.
From city council.
He ran in '93, out in Oakland.
You probably didn't hear about him.

California? School with an emphasis on maths and sciences? Boarding school? All three?

(My high school was probably 40-something percent Asian by the time you get to the upper grades, with the vast majority from Hong Kong. Many were boarders too.)

tunatartare 08-27-2006 11:23 AM

New York City public school with an emphasis on math and science.

Bronx Science. One of the most diverse schools in the city. And yea, I never really thought of minorities as being the "minority."
