What is your Reputation on your campus?

I was just wondering what the reputation of your chapter is at your school. I just think it is interesting how the chapters vary due to location. Proud to be a Pi Phi!

carnation 02-06-2001 05:36 PM

I went to Arkansas and Auburn, where we are strong!

angelic81 02-06-2001 08:41 PM

Proud to be a Virgina Zeta Pi Phi here at Virginia Tech. We are a strong and diverse group. #1 flag football champions, winners of the can food drive (3500 cans), and a strong sisterhood.

OU Pi Phi 02-23-2001 09:53 PM

I'm a Pi Phi at the U of Oklahoma. Pi Phi is the top house on our campus. We pledged 84 this year and have an active chapter of almost 180. The frats consider us the "classiest house on campus." OU is definitely the place to be a Pi Phi.

melqt99 05-21-2001 09:33 PM

Sorry to say girls...But your ladies @ NMSU are not very classy. I hope your chapter becomes stronger on my campus, during rush they were rude, snobby and well not very friendly.

piphigirl 06-08-2001 04:37 PM

I'm a Pi Phi at Colorado School of Mines (CO Delta) Our chapter is really small (our campus is only 27% female http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif), but we're considered "the sorority to be in". Proud to be a Pi Phi. This year we received most active chapter on campus and one of our ladies received greek woman of the year! We have also had many women selected as province winners of awards to be presented at convention.

Wine&Blue 06-16-2001 07:45 PM

Alabama Beta is a very strong chapter. melqt99, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with that one chapter, but I think most chapters are very classy.

kellyj 06-17-2001 01:14 PM

Well it's been awhile since I was an active at NY Epsilon (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), but we were a strong chapter then and for the most part retain a reputation for being a top house.

erniegurl00 06-26-2001 09:43 PM

Hello all. I'm a proud Pi Phi of the Indiana Gamma Chapter. I'm pleased to say that our rep is coming back and our numbers are on a rebound! We do have the smallest house on campus, but no one minds since we are all so close. Pi Phi love to you all.

Wine&Blue 07-03-2001 11:48 AM

That's so great that you are all close ernie! We lost our house several years ago when they decided to expand the football stadium right over it. (Football takes priority over EVERYTHING at Alabama, including your home.) So until our new house got built we were stuck cramped up in a too small dorm. We knew it would either tear us apart or make us closer. Luckily we got closer and now we have the best house on campus IMHO. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

California is a great place to be a Pi Phi. Every homecoming queen from my high school in the 4 years I was there went Pi Phi in college. Being given the splendid position of Homecoming Queen my senior year, I just HAD to continue the tradition http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif! Internally, our chapter is oh so close. Any where you find a Pi Phi, you will find your own little party (even if it's just a Blockbuster night). Our chapter is also flag football champs and we were runner up for sports banner this year! We should have won it, but we got cheated out of playing 2 sports. But gosh, for not playing 2 sports and still getting runner up, I am pretty darn proud. We tend to have a snotty reputation with the other girls that don't get to actually meet us. But once they do, they all change their mind when they see how goofy we really are http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. From the guy's perspective, well... there are always a bunch of us at every formal as all of our girls hang out with guys of every fraternity (and non greeks as well...we can also be found at Sports banquets and formals http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). There has never been an ill word on the lips of a fraternity man of Pi Phi. I am proud of the active, sweet, diverse and most of all CLASSY chapter that we maintain in good ol' Cali!

The Greek community at the University of Alberta is very small, although we have a good name in the community. The campus, on the other hand, tends to be very anti-Greek. For example, last year, during rush, the apartments across the street from us put up these banners that read "We'll be your friends for free" It was really bad. This year was better, by far. But Pi Beta Phi remains a respected name in womens fraternities here at the U of A, as we have been here the longest ( 70 years!woohoo) and we share good relations with our Greek Brothers and Sisters on Campus.

cherub 10-17-2001 05:59 PM

It's great to see another Canadian chapter on the Board!! I'm an alum from the University of Guelph, where we are the only women's fraternity on campus. We used to have a chaper of KAT on campus, but they went inactive in '97 due to low membership. Our greek system is almost non-existent, due in large part to the very anti-greek campus sentiment. Pi Phi is relatively new at UoG, as we were only colonized in November 1996 (we were a local before then).

Regardless, we have a strong chapter at Guelph. This semester we pledged 10 girls, which is becoming the average for us each rush. Our AAC is really active as well, so all in all I'd rate us number one anyway!

juanitamrgarita 10-20-2001 02:36 AM

pi phi rep at unc-chapel hill

at carolina, we're one of the top three (with tri delt and chi o). we have a very diverse (well-to-do and well-respected)chapter of average size. we are THE laidback sorority, kinda what you see is what you get type of deal. as for other stuff, the inside of our houses were just renovated, thanks in part to nationals :). the outside of the main house will be redone over the next few years. it'll take a while though because the main house is OLD. not that yall needed to know about our houses... just thought i'd throw that in! anyway, i'm new to this, so bear w/ me if i dont do this right ;)

if any of you know a unc pi phi, i'd love to find out who ya know!

kappakim 12-09-2001 03:46 AM

I have to say that I am not a pi phi, and that yalls chapter at baylor is not so hot. lots of girls de-pinning and a total breakdown in unity within the chapter. they did not take near quota the year i pledged. last year, during pref parties, the only things that the pi phis said was that kappa was horrible and that all of their friends (rushees) were cutting kappa and going pi phi. i think that this showed a huge amount of insecurity and no class whatsoever.

carnation 12-09-2001 10:13 AM

That's a lie. I'm a Pi Phi from Texas and I know very well that the Baylor Pi Phis have had a powerful reputation since they were Alpha Omega in 1977. I don't know if you were cut or if you're jealous--I don't even know if you're really a Kappa--but on this board, we don't trash other Greeks. If you are a Kappa, then think of Monmouth Duo and how your nationals would feel if they saw this post. I assure you they would be very angry.

kappakim 12-09-2001 01:30 PM

Why would I have any reason to make this up? I went to both Kappa and Pi Phi pref, but preffed Kappa and got my bid. I was not "trashing" yall, I said not so hot. There is not derogatory meaning except not so hot. Yes, the chapter at Baylor has been very strong, until recently (2 years ago). Then, factor in the examples that I stated in my previous post. Its true, whether you want to believe it our not. We had numerous girls telling us the same thing about the pref day incident. This was when they had first pledged, and had no connection to each other, except just recieving bids from kappa that weekend. Sorry if you still think I am lying, call the chapter and ask them how many girls have de-pinned in the last 2 years, it won't bother me. And speaking of Monmouth, ask the chapter about the "Lastmouth" shirts they printed up last year. Not something your Nationals would be too proud of, I think. There is now no more Monmouth at Baylor, thanks to that stunt. Sorry if you still feel I am bashing yall, I am not. This letter is just a response to being called a lier. No harn meant, only speaking the truth!!

carnation 12-09-2001 02:40 PM

You think you weren't trashing us? A copy of this thread has just been sent to Baylor Panhel and Kappa and Pi Phi Nationals. Let them decide.

Wine&Blue 12-09-2001 04:41 PM

This is a pi phi forum. Not a "Hey all other GLOs come over here and tell us why we suck" forum. If you have a problem with the chapter at your campus, I would suggest you take it up with your panhellenic office, instead of coming here and trashing it. You are not making a very good impression of your Kappa chapter right now.

I find some of your comments interesting for two reasons:

1) Pi Phi at Baylor, according to my records:
Quota in 2001 was in the mid-upper 60's they took 70 new members. I am not sure what quota was in 2000, but they took 58. In 1999 they pledged 57. In 1998 they pledged 62. According to my records that is near, at or over quota every year for the past four years. Not accounting for those few members every chapter loses each year, in the Spring of 2001 had 247 members. Exactly what year did you pledge Kappa?

2) There have been numerous comments about Pi Phi's at Baylor and from other Texas schools made on this board, by many different people and not one of them has been less then superior.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. However, say it being a little more tactful and not blatantly slinging mud. I understand you are only quoting what you have heard, but that should be stated more clearly; because everyone often hears things that are not so true.

Panhellenically,
Shelly

Hi PiPhis:

I'm the moderator for the KKG forum... by the way.... Kappakim, how come we have never seen you around the KKG forum?

It seems to me that this thread was started by a PiPhi to ask other PiPhis about their chapter's rep on campus... not to ask other GLO members what they think of PiPhi.

KappaKim, you have the right to post anything you want, anywhere you want, but you might think a little harder before you go and (1) say nasty things about another GLO on its own forum, and (2) do so under KKG's name.

I don't mean to flame you....or to be my sister's keeper... I mean to be my sister's SISTER and help her to see when her actions are less than "womanly and true."

Pi Phis, you know Kappa has nothing but love for you all....we came up together and we will continue to grow together in Monmouth love!!

Panhellenically,

imsohappythatiama

PS--At Indiana University, where I was an active, Pi Phis ROCKED!!!!!!

erniegurl00 12-11-2001 05:44 PM

imsohappythatiama,

Thanks for posting. I've been sitting back and reading this discussion not really wanting to get into the middle of it all. I'm sure bad intentions weren't meant, but I believe we all should remember the importance of greek sisterhood, especially between the KKG and Pi Phi. :)

Sisterly love,
Erin

Pi Phi's of West Virginia Alpha

I've been an active for a year and a half now, and our chapter is very strong, very diverse, classy girls. No fraternity has ever had anything bad to say about us angels. Our chapter is 80 members strong, we initiated 24 last weekend. Our house is the nicest sorority house on campus, and it's 100 years old. :) Alot of girls gave us great feed back from rush, that we might not hold a COB since we are so close to sealing.

erniegurl00 12-21-2001 06:09 PM

Well put Hootie!

i'm an alpha gam and the pi phis live 2 doors down from us. the pi phis at bowling green state university in ohio are REALLY REALLY peppy and i got really bummed out this year because my "rush crush" went pi phi instead of alpha gamma delta with me. boo hoo. ah well though. we ended up being pretty good friends anyways. yeah! just thought i'd let you know that your girls are great.

KappaKim-

I am sure you didn't mean any harm in your post and I take no offense. But whenever an ill word passes your lips of Pi Phi, you are degrading your family. Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded three years after Pi Phi at Monmouth. We supported eachother. Imagine it was 1870 and you were a founding member of KKG and PBP had been recruiting girls for three years now. It would be disenheartening if Pi Phi continued to rush girls with no care for their sister soror. I imagine that in some way we helped establish KKG. We broke ground not only at Monmouth as the first female fraternity, but nationally as we became the first chapter EVER to go national. I am not saying that we make the chapter of KKG on every campus, but I am saying that our "foremothers";) struggled to get chapters where they were today. If they saw their "children" arguing like this, I think it would sadden them immensely. As women we must support eachother. As sisters, we must remember.

On my campus, we tell all rushees that KKG and Pi Phi are sister sororities as does KKG. It makes them feel at ease when choosing. They know that they will join a FAMILY if they join either house. Celebrate this fact.

Remember the bonds of sisterhood and why we pledged our honor...

Well, back to the original subject-

I'm not a Pi Phi, but I can assure you that Iowa State University has an excellent Pi Beta Phi - they're smart, they're hot, and they're hard workers. Should be proud of Pi Phis here!

They still have strong traditions (I think). Our house is across the street of Pi Beta Phi. They occasionally ran outside, formed a circle in the middle of Ash Ave. blocking the traffic, and sang "Pi Beta Phi" song. Do you guys still do that?

Awesome girls!

amycat412 01-04-2002 09:10 PM

I'm not a Pi Phi, but the Pi Phis at USC are a wonderful group! Many of my friends are USC Pi Phis and they are smart, classy, funny, lovely women. There is every reason to be proud of your California Gamma chapter!

PiPhiERDoc 02-01-2002 05:45 PM

Washington Pi Phi

I was a member of Pi Phi at Washington Gamma (University of Puget Sound) and I am now their AAC chairman, and I can tell you that Washington Gamma has always been known as outgoing, energetic, and dynamic. They are still very much that way and I am proud to be their advisor. They just finished rush and pledged 3 over quota, with an outstanding pledge class. Pi Phi was definitely the "place to be" this year!
When I went to convention (Houston '99) I was so impressed with every Pi Phi I met from around the country -- I have always been Pi Phi proud but I had a whole new outlook after meeting so many amazing actives and alums. No matter where you go, you can always hold your head up high as a Pi Beta Phi.

TrojanGirl 02-07-2002 02:58 AM

I am not a pi phi, but I am going thru informal rush here at Univeristy of Arkansas Little Rock, and the pi phis are the nicest and most diverse group on campus. I have heard from faculty and students alike that they are a classy bunch. They are a lot of fun to be around and God willing, I hope I get a bid from them. On both national and local levels, they seem to be wonderful!

Trojan Girl:D

nucutiepie 02-07-2002 03:19 AM

I am a pi phi pledge, and at Northwestern, I would say that we are the laid-back house, full of chill girls who you can really be yourself around. Most of the fraternities like us a lot (except maybe one, which is obsessed with KKG)

The weird thing is that we have kind of a rivalry with KKG. A lot of girls pref both houses, and it can be a big deal with who gets who.

Delta_theta 04-05-2002 01:11 PM

I'm not a pi phi, but...

I'm a Sigma Nu at Knox college(right near Monmouth), and we have Pi Phi's and Tri-delts here. I've been here for four years, and when I got here, the Pi Phi chapter was not as strong(in numbers) as the tri-delt chapter, and was seen as not as friendly as could be. I'm happy to say, that its turning around in many cases. The Pi Phi's have had great rushes the last two years, and are full of great people, and are a wonderful chapter. On top of all that, one of my brothers is engaged to a Pi Phi here.
I wish you all the best of luck in the upcomming years.

LTH,
Delta Theta 1150,
M.

ROWDYsister 05-17-2002 11:14 PM

Pi Phi at UF is great. We're involved with everything. I've heard us referred to as "an untapped resource" by one of the "top" fraternities. I say it's better we be untapped than tapped. Everyone we meet (we're at every frat party and every "normal" party) tells us that we're surprisingly down-to-earth, fun, and true party girls. One of my frat boy friends asked me where I was going one night and I told him I was going out with a bunch of my sisters and also a bunch of guys from a certain fraternity, and he looked at me incredulously and said, "You Pi Phis are amazing. You never discriminate--you party with everyone." And we do--no other sorority I can think of ever has a bigger number of girls out than we do. But other than what people tell us (they can tell you anything they want, it's easy to say, "Oh, your house is so great!") I can truly say my sisters are wonderful. They break every bad sorority girl stereotype. They're smart, worldly, beautiful, fun, and classy. I love my chapter and think it's perfect.

But if you want more than opinions:
*we meet quota every year
*we always end up in the top three in the biggest fraternity philanthropy, Sigma Chi's Derby Days
*we had one of the biggest groups of girls for Dance Marathon
*we have the most popular and successful sorority philanthropy (how can you go wrong with fraternity boys and football???)
*we have the newest, I believe largest, and some say the most beautiful sorority house, which just so happens to be the only sorority house on Frat Row

CutiePie2000 06-02-2002 12:52 AM

I happened to be visiting Edmonton, Alberta in about 1989, and was walking around campus. Back then, they had Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Phi and DG (AGD has since arrived, but they weren't there then).
Anyhow, I was so curious to see the U of A sorority houses and I am pleased to say that the Pi Phi's were so nice to me (being that I was a total stranger) when I knocked on the door and asked for a tour. It was great!
Theta was great too, but I already knew someone in the house, so I wasn't a complete stranger approaching them. And DG's gave me a tour as well, since I knew a number of DG's.

I've also met Pi Phi's at U of Toronto who are friendly and down to earth as well.

Lady Pi Phi 06-02-2002 10:45 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the newly initiated members of Pi Beta Phi at the university of Guelph (just initiated this semester).
Like Cherub said, Greek life isn't big on our campus, but we have a great chapter and I couldn't be prouder to be an Ontario Gamma Pi Phi.

Pi Phi Love and Mine,

Emily

AngelJR 06-10-2002 02:17 AM

I am a Pi Phi at UC Davis. We have met quota every single rush, which is a hard feat here! I love my house, not only do we have top grades, we have great morale, and a great social scene! The sororities at Davis are really great houses, but overall, Pi Phi is the place to be here!

LilPiPhiHoney 06-11-2002 05:03 PM

I am a Pi Phi at Hillsdale College in Michigan. We have a great reputation on campus and since Hillsdale is such a small school I think that says a lot. Our house is very diverse. We have girls that are involved in almost every single campus activity. Although each of us is individually unique we are all unified by the bonds of Pi Phi. I am so proud to be a Pi Phi! :)

I just have to say that I am a Pi Phi at NMSU and I went through the whole rush process and Pi Phi to me seemed classy and sophisticated. Pi Phi was my number one choice and I am so glad that I became a Pi Phi. I do not know what melgt99 went through but when I rushed everyone wanted to be a pi phi at NMSU. And now that I am a pi phi I know that we are one of the top sororities on our campus.

AngelJR 07-28-2002 01:06 AM

I just wanted to bump this thread up because I think it's awesome to see all of the Pi Phi pride across the nation!
