Love of makeup thread

We haven't had a good makeup thread in awhile.

I was a bad girl today, lol. Impulse buys at the Chanel counter... I have a new love! The only Chanel makeup i've ever had was a lipstick I bought when they did my makeup for a friend's wedding.

Here's what I bought:
Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow -got Lavende and Silvery

Sourcil Due Professionnel- Professional Brow Duo in Blonde

A shadow/liner brush

Aqualumiere sheer colour lipshine in Santa Barbara

The sales lady was so nice as to not tell me the total and to hide my receipt nicely wrapped under the tissue paper, bless her heart, lol. I would've bought more but I had to cut myself off. Their stuff is expensive but I love it!

What have you bought lately?

Scandia 08-12-2006 04:57 PM

Oooooh, make-up!

Revlon is my favorite brand. However, I buy Clinique foundation and powder because I can match them to my skin color better.

Last make-up product I bought was either a Revlon eyeliner or an Elizabeth Arden lip gloss. That is, if you do not count the many lip glosses I buy very often. I keep one in my purse, one on my nightstand, and one on my computer desk.

_Opi_ 08-12-2006 05:33 PM

I have the biggest hookup to Mac products.

My friend's sister is a chemist for Mac and gets all the products for cheap. Unfortunately, Law school took all my money so I have to wait a little bit before I buy next stock for the Fall.

Le sigh.

kddani 08-12-2006 05:45 PM

My favorite drugstore makeup buy: Cover Girl Wet Slicks lipgloss, particularly the crystals type. Great color and consistency, i'm addicted. I'm partial to the "crush" color.

tunatartare 08-12-2006 05:54 PM

*Nars blush in orgasm. I swear I haven't found a person whom that color doesn't look good on.
*MAC lipglass- amazing
*CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine

Tippiechick 08-12-2006 06:04 PM

I LOVE:

Prescriptives Match Stick foundation
Lancome Definicils (sp?) Mascara
Estee Lauder eye make-up
Lorac's ASHLEY lipstick (although it is no longer made)
DHC skincare - ANYTHING they make
Rimmel color trio in Orbit

KSUViolet06 08-12-2006 11:40 PM

*I'm addicted to MAC. I went up to the store last week and bought 3 lipglosses and a new concealer stick.

jadis96 08-12-2006 11:55 PM

Because I have skin issues (stress is sooooo fun) I am a Clinique girl these days. I mix it up on eyes and lips, but any foundation or skin care stuff is always Clinique.

chitownxo 08-13-2006 12:04 AM

I just got back from Sephora where I indulged my love of makeup thanks to a couple of gift cards. I got:

1). Benetint lip/cheek stain -- my favorite product in the entire universe! I'm addicted.
2). Hoola bronzing I'm also fond of Stila's lip glazes, Lorac's foundations, and smashbox's eyeshadows.
3) A couple of lip glazes from Stila in fruit punch, grape, guava
4) Lorac foundation
5) Benefit's Badgal eyeliner
6) Eyeshadow from Stila in amethyst and bouquet.

I really like being a girl!

tld221 08-13-2006 02:22 AM

im pretty low-maintenace. a couple months ago, Dior artists were dong complimentary makeovers at Sephora in Union Square. They used this foundation stick by Becca which amazingly matches my skin. i love it!

for some reason, im in love with the sephora brand lip glosses, especially #4. weird. maybe cause ive been getting by on this cheap lip gloss.

duphil 08-13-2006 07:39 AM

good day to you !!!

good day to you!!!

am from the philippines..just want to ask if there are delta upsilon members in your place or school..actually i do have friends here who are members of alpha phi omega..

Beryana 08-13-2006 07:47 AM

ARGH! I'm having issues (so I'm taking suggestions!). My skin has been freaking out (oilly, breakout, you name it!) and my makeup in disappearing - to the point that my mom asked me one evening why I wasn't wearing makeup anymore (I had put on foundation, powder, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, etc that morning).

I'm currently using Arbonne's basic skincare and I THINK it is helping my skin issues. I am, however, looking for a new foundation that will last but not be heavy, etc as well as mascara that does not cause my lashes to 'uncurl' and eyeliner that does not disappear. Oh, I also live in a small town and in town have access to Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, and Arden (as well as drugstore brands). If I drive 2 hours I can have access to Marshall Fields and 3 hours to Milwaukee have quite a bit more.

Love Sephora lip glosses, liner pencils and waterproof mascara. Addicted to Bare Escentuals, especially the radiances and foundation.

Not necessarily a "makeup" but my new addiction is philosophy 3 in 1's. Love the Cinnamon buns and Amazing Grace of course. Latest purchase was Melon Daiquiri and it's heaven!

Kali-n-Kohl 08-13-2006 10:22 AM

i've become a mac worshiper. i love their stuff.

as for skin care, a while back i was having massive issues with my skin (break outs, oily, dry -- good fun) it was like I was going through puberty at 25. I found a really good site, www.acne.org. They have a great program for your skin.

I also like Aveda's products too.

KDDani- I am ITA with you on your Chanel products. They're awesome.

DSTRen13 08-13-2006 11:12 AM

I'm a big Bare Escentuals fan ... I hate to use any other kind of foundation - it's too "makeup-y" for me (I have sensitive skin), so Bare Minerals is really great. The Mineral Veil stuff is amazing!

I love the lip shimmers that Burt's Bees makes, and just recently discovered lip tints by the Savannah Bee Company at Bath & Body Works - love them! :D If I need to wear "real" lipstick for something, I use Revlon (the only one of the standard drugstore makeup companies that doesn't use animal testing on their products, from what I've read, and their stuff just seems higher quality to me).

adpiucf 08-13-2006 03:29 PM

I've slowly gone over to the Dark Side-- I love Mary Kay eyeshadows and foundation.

Best Liquid Eyeliner EVER: Bourgois (it's a line made by Chanel)-- also love their lipsticks.

I'm in love with Arbonne skin care products, but I'm trying to wean myself onto something less $$$ and I've found that Ulta face wash and lotion are on par with the good stuff, but cost as much as drug store brands.

Me, unfortunately. :( I bought it and was so excited but it just sucks on me, I think my skin is too olive or yellow or something and it barely shows up.

As for other makeup, well I am obsessed with makeup; I'm always buying new products even though I wear the same exact ones every day. Still, it's so fun to shop for makeup though!

My favorites:

-Bare Minerals foundation and the regular (non-tinted) mineral veil
-Smashbox concealers and makeup primers, especially their under-eye concealer...I have the worst dark circles and I couldn't survive w/o this stuff.
-Lancome Juicy Tubes, MAC lipglass, and Sephora clear lip gloss....I love all lip gloss, the shinier and stickier, the better! :)
-My favorite mascaras are from Lorac, Dior, Lancome, and Loreal ;), I have really long eyelashes so I like stuff that makes them a thicker and darker.
-And the best thing of all time is Benefit's Benetint lip balm; it's bright red in the pot and it always freaks people out (boys especially) when I go to put it on, but it shows up super sheer, just a tiny hint of color and it makes your lips really soft. LOVE that stuff!

Ok, that's enough from me...sorry, I am just obsessed with makeup and could talk about it forever. ;)

vividas_FUNK 08-13-2006 04:51 PM

I love Lancome's Hypnose mascara! It helps me look "madeup" before going to class :)

<3

blueangel 08-13-2006 09:14 PM

I'm a recent convert to "Sheer Cover"-- which is pretty much the same as "Bare Essentials"-- just a different brand.

For basic skin care, I was using Perricone products (which I liked), but have just switched over to the Dr. Brandt line. I like the texture of my skin from these products.

Taualumna 08-13-2006 09:32 PM

I don't wear that much make-up, but products that I CANNOT live without are:

Kiehl's Ultra Protection Water-based Sunscreen (SPF 25)

Kiehl's SPF 15 lipbalm (preferably Hue 58). I know that more people love Lip Balm #1, but it only has an SPF of 4

Stila's lipglazes (both the pencil glazes and the brush ones)

Stila's High Shine Lip Color

PhiMuLady150 08-13-2006 09:32 PM

I love MAC Make-up. I have to stay away from the counter because I always spend way too much. Although I still love Clinique's glosswear for lips in Air Kiss. They used to carry it in little pots but now it is a lip gloss tube.

As for skin care, my esthetician carries SkinCeuticals, I've been using it for the better part of a year and it's really balances my skin out. It's expensive though but well worth it. I also get a facial every four weeks, also expensive but still worth it.

btb87 08-13-2006 10:26 PM

Hi.

My name is btb87 and I'm a MACaholic.

I found myself starting with the stick foundation last year. Fell in love. Soon after, I bought some loose powder. Then this past Christmas, when I was visiting my grandmother, I stopped by a mall in Raleigh, NC and bought some lipstick and lipliner. That's when my unhealthy addiction began. After I returned to Florida, I found myself making excuses to go get MAC. I own 6 pots of shadow, 4 lustreglasses/lipglasses, 2 lipliners (and Chestnut is all that and a bag of chips!), two lipsticks, and my favorite, studio fix foundation.

I finally had to stop myself from making these purchases, but alas, this addiction is rearing its ugly head again. I now want a brown frost eyeshadow, but I don't have to have it, so I'm not going to drive an hour for a pot of eyeshadow (the nearest MAC counter is an hour + away from where I live). Compared to some women that I've spoken with, I really don't have a lot of makeup. I also don't wear it everyday, but lately, I've been wearing lipstick/lipglasses/lustreglass more.

bucutie02 08-13-2006 11:07 PM

i LOVE makeup...

I have really long eyelashes, but they are not as full as I would like. What does everyone recommend??

I recently bought bare essentials. Ive only used it a few times, but the first time i did use it I noticed a difference. My face really seemed like it was "airbrushed". Right now my favorite thing is this clinique eyeshadow. I am obsessed with it! its called beach plum- its awesome!!

Rollergirl2001 08-13-2006 11:27 PM

I love MAC makeup, but the problem is that I have a short budget, and I've never brought one product from them. One day, I'll be able to get my hands on them.

I will also try Bare Essentials, because I have ecsema and I can't wear products that is oil-based.

cutiepatootie 08-14-2006 12:19 AM

I use to be sooo devoted to clinque you couldn't pull me away from it. Then i tried the bare essentials line because i too have very senistive skin. I love a natual look. I also use mary kay products as well. though I still have a devotion to some clinique items.

aephi alum 08-14-2006 10:58 AM

I usually just use lipgloss (although heaven knows my commute is long enough to put on full makeup and get in a good chunk of War and Peace as well  ).

I have no brand loyalty... my makeup drawer includes a mix of MAC, Clinique, Estée Lauder, and Bobbi Brown. I have a couple of MAC foundations that have an SPF factor, which is a good thing in summer.

I use the Clinique skin care line, except that I skip the moisturizer as my skin is quite oily enough already  and I do not agree with their position that Everyone.Needs.Moisturizer. (I suspect it's a ploy to sell more moisturizer.)

Kiki - I think "Torrid" is the one they recommend if Orgasm is too light for you. Nars products are sooooo wonderful. If I could buy the whole line I would. :)

PhoenixAzul 08-14-2006 11:16 AM

I don't really wear makeup, but I am in love with Aveda products. My life revolves around their Self Control styling stick- any girl with short hair will love it.

This made me LOL! Glad no one heard me or they would have thought I was crazy.

Still BLUTANG 08-14-2006 11:37 AM

have you tried their dramatically different gel instead of the lotion for a moisturizer? it's worked wonders for me.

How the hell do you know if you love a product you've never bought?? They work different on everyone. Just because one person looks good in their product, doesn't mean you will.

Still BLUTANG 08-14-2006 11:47 AM

just cause she's never BOUGHT a product doesnt mean shes never USED their products. MAC does makeovers and stuff. Or she may have borrowed something from a friend/sister.

Maybe she's tried on a friend's makeup or tried it on at a makeup counter? My mom was obsessed with Chanel makeup long before she bought her first piece. (Of course, now that she did, almost all of her makeup is from Chanel.)

No, I haven't tried the gel. I may try that... thanks.

MJo19 08-14-2006 01:27 PM

Hi I'm mjo19 and I am a make-up addict...

I am still on my hunt for the perfect mascara..one that does not clump or flake off. I have yet to find one!

My Favs:
Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer
MAC Blush
Clinique Quick Eyes eyeliner
Lancome Lipstick
Clinique Acne Solutions concealer
BeneFit Eye Bright highlighter

Jimmy Choo 08-14-2006 02:53 PM

Smashbox makeup is wonderful!!! I have sensitive skin and it works well for me. Also Urban Decay has great eye makeup that allows you to really do some cool stuff.
*Someone mentioned skincare issues. I recommend Origins. If I have a breakout it clears me up in 1-2 days. Checks and Balances is a gift from God!!! *

MJo19 08-14-2006 04:14 PM

Speaking of Origins, has anyone used their new mushroom skin care line? I am wanting to try it out, but I also want recs first before I go spending my money on something that does nothing.

Lily1909 08-16-2006 07:42 PM

Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in 151 "A Lick of Taffy" . It's an awesome shade for summer.

Too Faced Quickie Chronicles palette
Bloom lip gloss
L'oreal colour juice lip gloss

Sephora makes a powder brush with translucent loose powder inside the handle. Another great summer product without looking too made-up.

I'm also looking forward to trying the Bare Minerals product line next time I'm at the mall!

Orgasm was too light and they recommended "Outlaw" for me. It gives you the same flushed glow but for skin that's a bit darker. I love it!

OtterXO 08-16-2006 07:51 PM

I'm a Bare Escentuals convert as well. I love their foundation and concealer. (Although I can't quite get on their bronzer/blush/eyeshadow bandwagon.) I've noticed an improvement in my skin since I started using it....plus if you fall asleep in it, no biggie. I've converted a couple friends and my mom to the line!
